Minister Chandra Gomi held the umbrella handle and stood before him. In the sacred land of India, whoever wishes to debate stands. Those who listen to the Dharma do so with respect. Therefore, Chandrakirti considered him an opponent in debate. When asked what virtues he knew, he said he knew the grammar text "Vakya Pada," the praise "One Hundred and Fifty Verses," and the "Namasangiti" (The recitation of the names of Manjushri). This seemed like concealing his pride, but because he claimed to be proficient in grammar, Sutra, and Tantra, he was asked if he was Chandra Gomi. He replied that he was known as such. It was said, "Then, since you are a great scholar, you should receive a monastic welcome." He was asked to leave temporarily. He said, "How can I, a layperson, receive a monastic welcome?" There is a way to do this: place the noble Manjushri on a chariot. Then proceed while waving a fly-whisk. Let's make it appear as if we are welcoming Manjushri. After saying this, three chariots were made, with the image of the noble one in the center chariot, and two teachers on the left and right waving fly-whisks as they proceeded. 82 As the assembly of monks came to greet them, Manjushri appeared to Chandra Gomi as his true form and recited the "Ah Ka Forty Verses Praise." Manjushri himself blessed him and asked if he possessed such virtues. Many people who came to watch also saw this and spoke of it, so he remained in that place and became known as the one blessed by Manjushri himself. At that time, Chandra Gomi's faith greatly increased, and the chariot went ahead of Chandrakirti as it pleased. Chandrakirti thought, "This person is arrogant, I will debate with him." Then, Chandra Gomi, relying on the tradition of Asanga, took the position of the Vijnanavada school. Chandrakirti, relying on the tradition of Nagarjuna, took the position of speaking of no self-nature. They debated for seven days. During the debate, the noble Avalokiteshvara was teaching Chandra Gomi, so Chandrakirti seemed to be losing for a while. He thought, "This person must have someone teaching him how to debate." So he followed Chandra Gomi to the temple of the sacred Vajra Body and saw that the stone statue of Avalokiteshvara was teaching Chandra Gomi like a teacher teaching a student.

was seen. It is said that there, the noble one did not discriminate between near and far. When the finger of a monk who was studying the Dharma was extended, it became known as the Noble Pointing Finger. The debate was so prolonged that villagers who came to watch, even including young boys and girls, were said to sing songs that showed they understood a little. Eventually, the debate subsided naturally, and Chandrakirti prayed to Avalokiteśvara. In a dream, Avalokiteśvara said, "You have already been blessed by Mañjuśrī, so you do not need (my blessing), but I have slightly blessed Candragomin." The circumnavigators of the Guhyasamāja assembly also mentioned the history of their local area. Also, once, a poor girl had no dowry, so she wandered around begging in various places. Finally, she begged from Candragomin. The尊者 had nothing but the clothes he was wearing and a copy of the Aṣṭasāhasrikā Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra. With a heart full of compassion for the poor, he prayed to the image of Tārā painted on the wall and shed tears. The Tārā image actually manifested, and she took off the priceless ornaments made of various precious jewels from her neck and offered them to the teacher. Therefore, the image of Tārā in the painting was left without earrings and decorations, and became known as the Unadorned Tārā. It is said that there were traces of flames where the ornaments were removed. At that time, when the teacher Chandrakirti saw the beautiful verses of the Samantabhadra Prayer composed by himself, he realized that his own verses were not beautiful enough, and thinking that they would not benefit beings, he threw the book into a well. Then, the noble lady said, "A treatise written with the pride of a scholar will have little benefit. But the treatise you wrote with a good intention to benefit others will benefit sentient beings, so take the book out of the well!" It is said that he took the book out according to the prophecy. Some say that when the Samantabhadra Prayer became very popular, Candragomin prayed to the noble one, "I pray that this scripture will be propagated." As a result, the propagation of the Samantabhadra Prayer was interrupted, and the Candra school began to flourish. Then, Chandrakirti was very disappointed and threw the treatise into the well, so the name of the well became Candra Well. These two stories have completely different subjects and contents, and even if they do not conform to the wishes of their respective followers, in any case, whoever drinks water from that well will have great wisdom.
