Then he composed a treatise refuting the tenets of Buddhism and presented it to the king and assembly of scholars. There, his father, the erudite scholar (pa rnyi ta), investigated for a long time, but the author, a heretic, claimed to be the Lord of Grammar (vyākaraṇa-īśvara), whom everyone found difficult to defeat. If one did not understand the true meaning of the words, let alone how to answer. Later, after the father had gone out, the seven-year-old Moon (candra) effortlessly answered, composing verses and explaining the meaning with commentaries, and left it there. The father saw it and asked, "Who has come to the house?" The reply was, "No one has come; the mute son was watching and writing." The father asked the son, who looked at his mother's face and said nothing. The mother told him to recite it, and he said, "This is mine; it is effortless to refute this opponent." The next day, the son Moon (candra) debated with the heretic, and Moon (candra) was victorious and received a great reward. In this way, he naturally became proficient in grammar, logic, and other sciences, and his fame spread like moonlight. From the teacher Wisdom Steadfast (blo gros brtan pa), he understood most of the Sutra and Abhidharma Pitakas after listening to them only once. From the Knowledge Holder Sorrowless (mya ngan med), he received the mantra and, through practice, directly saw the faces of Avalokiteśvara and Tārā. He became a great master of knowledge, composing many treatises on medicine, prosody, and crafts, and he was especially proficient in grammar, becoming very powerful. He took the daughter of the king of Bhārendra, named Tā-ra, as his wife and lived with her. Once, her maid called her "Tā-ra," and because the names were the same, he thought it was inauspicious in the household and intended to go elsewhere. When the king learned of this, he said, "If you do not live with my daughter, I will exile you to Gadha." Then, the teacher prayed to the Holy Mother Tārā, who said that it was her emanation, and he arrived at an island where Gadha and the ocean met. The teacher stayed there, and the name of the island became Candran Dīpa. It is said that there are now about seven thousand towns. There, he built stone statues of Avalokiteśvara and Tārā. At first, the fishermen discovered the place, and gradually others came, and it became a town. As instructed by the Holy Mother, he became a lay devotee of Go Mi.

Due to his actions, he was known as Chandra Gomi. After that, he traveled with merchants to the island of Simhala (Sri Lanka), where, due to the prevalence of Naga diseases, he built a temple of the Holy Tara (Skt: Aryatārā), thus pacifying the disaster. He also propagated many fields of knowledge such as crafts and medicine. He bestowed great benefits upon foolish beings. He obtained wealth from the local spirit Yaksha and established many Dharma foundations. He also spoke a little about the Mahayana Dharma. After that, he went again to the southern region of Jambudvipa. In the temple of the Brahmin Supreme Desire, he saw the sight of the Naga Shesha personally listening to the sound, and the commentary on the Vākya-pada written by the Naga. He criticized, "If the merit of a commentary is that it is concise and meaningful, complete and not repetitive, then the Naga is very foolish, because his commentary is verbose, meaningless, repetitive, and incomplete." Then, he composed the meaning commentary on the Vākya-pada with Chandra, Kakara, and Lelaga, and there he examined the Naga, saying, "The few contents are clear, correct, and complete." At that time, in the auspicious Nālandā Monastery, a monastery revered by the ocean of learning, those who took extraordinary vows for fear of debating with heretics only taught the Dharma outside the iron fence, and were nothing more than that. When the teacher Chandra Gomi went to Nālandā, at that time, one born in the south in Samanya, who from a young age was proficient in all fields of knowledge, reaching the other shore of the ocean of knowledge, having renounced in the teachings of the Tathagata, holding the treasury of all the Tripitaka, was a group of disciples of Sudhana (Skt: Sudhana), and Kamala Burni, a disciple of Buddhapālita (Skt: Buddhapālita), having studied well the doctrines and instructions of Nāgārjuna (Skt: Nāgārjuna), became a great master of wisdom. Because his clinging to the truth of all dharmas was expanded into the nature of illusion and dream, he milked milk from a cow painted on the wall, satisfying the seven monks with milk porridge. Because the clinging to the truth of appearances vanished into equality, he pierced stone pillars with his hand, passed through walls without obstruction, and so on, adorned with many qualities of accomplished samadhi, this glorious Chandrakirti (Skt: Candrakīrti), whose fame like music spread in all directions, hanging in the ears of beings. He became the abbot of the great clean room and was teaching the Dharma outside.
