The assembly said, "This treatise of yours cannot be harmed; in future times, it will become the one eye of all treatises." Then the teacher also prayed with verses and composed the great treatise, the Compendium on Valid Cognition. Furthermore, he composed many series of treatises, such as the auto-commentary on it and the root commentary on the Examination of Objectives. After a while, he went to beg for alms and stayed in a forest clearing outside the city. There he fell asleep for a while, and in his dream he saw the faces of many Buddhas and attained many samādhis. The gods rained down a shower of flowers. When a herd of elephants was resting in the cool shade, the king of that country came with his retinue to enjoy himself, and as soon as he saw them, the sound of music arose, and the teacher awoke from his sleep. He was asked, "Are these elephants on your side?" He replied, "That is so." The king was filled with faith and prostrated at his feet. Then he went to the south and defeated almost all the heretical opponents of other countries who spoke of reasoning, and he became famous as the great chief of debaters. He restored all the former foundations of the Dharma that had declined. He placed the minister of the king of Jo.ṇḍa Biśa, named Bhadra Salita, in the Buddha's teachings. That Brahmin built sixteen great temples, each with a large community of monks. In that Brahmin's garden there was a tree called Mradjiritaka, a type of arura, which could cure all diseases. Because of the neglect of many people, it had withered, but the teacher restored it to life by the truth of his vows of pure morality. The disciples who followed the Dharma were: Wangchuk De, who was learned in all fields of knowledge and was a disciple of the glorious Dharmakīrti, who wrote the commentary on the Compendium, and countless others. But he did not take a single attendant mendicant. Like those great Śrāvaka disciples who had previously lived near the Teacher, he passed away completely into nirvāṇa in a forest of Jo.khi Biśa, without losing any of the twelve qualities of asceticism, being content with little desire. This great teacher was initially equal to

Ra. The direct disciples of Vasubandhu were the monk Sanghabhadra and Arya Vimuktisena. Acharya Dharmasvabhava and others, who were disciples of both body and mind, also performed the work of propagating the teachings. Similarly, Buddhapalita and Bhavaviveka appeared one after the other and established the treatises that speak of Madhyamaka's emptiness of inherent existence. The treatises of the two founders of the chariot tradition are very different. Asanga's treatise is only about mind-only, and Arya Nagarjuna's Madhyamaka path is not different from this for us. By refuting other extremes, the Mahayana also split into two schools from here. The wonderful great teacher Chandragomin, a monk who held the three pitakas, wandered in the king's palace for alms during a festival, but was driven away by the gatekeeper without receiving alms. He died of starvation. In the next life, he was born as a king and made a vow to satisfy all monks with food. Thus, the son of King Shiha was born as King Chandra. When he was in power, a pandita from Rendra in the east saw the face of Arya Avalokiteshvara. He debated with a Lokayata heretic and refuted him. The heretic said, 'The science of logic is the distinction of wisdom. Whoever wins the debate, that is the religion of the victor. There is no clear evidence of the existence of past and future lives, so I do not believe it.' Then the king and 77 others were set as witnesses. He put a vermillion mark on his forehead and a pearl in his mouth, and died to show his rebirth. His body was placed in a copper coffin, and the king sealed it. As he had promised, he was reborn as the son of the royal pandita Visakha, and was born with the characteristics of a dog, with vermillion on his forehead and a pearl in his mouth. When the king looked at the previous body, he found that the vermillion on the forehead had also fallen off, and the traces of the pearl were still there. Then the heretic also believed. As soon as the child was born, he clasped his hands to his mother and asked, 'Is ten months of milk enough?' People thought it was a bad omen and advised him to remain silent. After that, he did not say anything for seven years, and people suspected that he was dumb again. At that time, a heretic said: Poetry is very...
