Conclusion. Having said this, the elder brother heard it and thought it was the time for taming. He had his two students memorize the Daśabhūmika Sūtra and the Akṣayamati Sūtra respectively. He instructed them to recite the Akṣayamati Sūtra at dusk and the Daśabhūmika Sūtra at dawn, and then sent them to his younger brother. The two of them did as they were told. Vasubandhu began to contemplate, and at dusk, he thought, "This Mahāyāna is good in terms of cause, but could it be negligent in terms of result?" When the Daśabhūmika Sūtra was recited at dawn, he realized that both cause and result were good, and immediately became a supreme wise man.64 Remembering the previous slander, he regretted it very much and intended to cut his tongue with a razor. At this time, the two who were reciting the sutra advised him, "What is the use of cutting your tongue? If you want a method to confess your sins, your elder brother will teach you, you should go to the holy one." So he went to Asaṅga. When the brothers engaged in Dharma debate, the younger brother was quick-witted, and the elder brother answered well. The elder brother said, "You have been a paṇḍita for five hundred lifetimes, so your wisdom is sharp. I speak by asking the gods." The younger brother requested, "Please show me that as well." The elder brother asked Maitreya and said, "Maitreya said that this is an ordinary person, and because he slandered the Mahāyāna, he will not see me in this life. As a method to eliminate karmic obscurations, write many treatises on the Mahāyāna sutras. Make the Uṣṇīṣavijayā Dhāraṇī your yidam. You will meet me in the future." Hearing the reason for the prophecy, he believed it very much and said, "My elder brother is like a dragon, and I am like a bird waiting for rain. Even though the dragon king sends down rain, not a drop enters the bird's throat." He said this. The brothers engaged in debate, and the history from that time until now is not the Indian version, but clearly shows the difficult debate, which is the act of a wise man.65 ༄༅། . Here, for the time being, it is written in accordance with the ancient stories that are said to have been passed down in Tibet. The elder brother understood the entire Mahāyāna sutras simply by hearing them. He also received the entrance to mantras from other teachers, and by reciting the vidyā-mantras, he attained accomplishment. He truly understood the true meaning, and

Moreover, he possessed神通 (siddhi). It is said that because he understood the king's teachings, people commented that there had been no one as learned as this teacher since the passing of the Teacher (Buddha). He could recite the Eight Thousand Verse Prajnaparamita in just one or two hours each day, representing the extreme of both slowness and speed. During the annual Dharma assembly, he would recite the three pitakas of the Hearers (Shravakas) three times, as well as many categories of Mahayana Dharma, including five hundred dharanis. In a place called Bhaga Vihara, he would sit inside a large copper cauldron filled with sesame oil and recite continuously for fifteen days and nights. A pigeon that heard this had the seed of liberation planted and ended its life. Teacher Lodro Tendar (Blo-gros brtan-pa) became the best of his students in his later years, defeating evil debaters and becoming one of the sixty-six great masters who were masters of scripture and commentary. When Teacher Vasubandhu entered the Mahayana, more than five hundred scholars, including those from the Shravaka school, also entered the Mahayana. After the passing of Asanga, he became the abbot of glorious Nalanda Monastery. While tirelessly engaging in the great work of propagating the Dharma, he unfailingly performed the ten practices every day in every way. He also engaged in a thousand other practices of the ten dharmas each day, and in particular, he continuously taught twenty different Mahayana sutras without interruption. In the evening, he would summarize the essence of all the teachings, grasp the key points, and compose treatises. At midnight, while resting slightly, he would listen to the Dharma from the supreme deity. At dawn, he would abide in perfect samadhi. In the past and future, he defeated about five hundred non-Buddhist challengers with sharp wheels of logic, and brought more than five thousand Brahmins and non-Buddhists into the Buddhist teachings. Taking the first turning of the wheel as the foundation of the teachings, he established the definitions of all the teachings, composing the root verses and self-commentary of the Abhidharmakosha. He pleased Dusang (འདུས་བཟང་) in Kashmir (克什米尔) by presenting him with the root verses. It is said that when he presented the commentary, Dusang said that the root verses were refuted, so he was not pleased, and this story is famous in Tibet. Sixty-seven, the intermediate explanation is the Prajnaparamita Sutra, which shows that all dharmas are only mind.
