They are divided into three pitakas. Thus, the Sutra Pitaka clarifies the wisdom of words and meanings through the expression of the characteristics of names, words, and letters, and the meanings of the characteristics of the objects to be expressed, such as aggregates and realms, or the causes for achieving higher realms, such as the ten virtuous actions, and the causes for achieving Nirvana, such as the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment. The Vinaya Pitaka takes great delight in subduing afflictions through methods such as contemplating the nine aspects of ugliness towards afflictions such as attachment. It explicitly reveals the expressions of the Dharma that are assembled in any place, and the meanings of those expressions. The Abhidhamma Pitaka establishes the characteristics of all phenomena as extremely amenable to investigation, and thus thoroughly measures phenomena and meanings without confusion. As the learned Vasubandhu said, "The Sutra explains Dharma and meaning. The Vinaya accomplishes Dharma and meaning, because it strives diligently to subdue afflictions, and thus to understand those two. The Abhidhamma is skilled in thoroughly determining clear speech." Thus, the wisdom arising from the Dharma of the three pitakas brings about liberation. How is liberation achieved? The wisdom of hearing establishes concordant habitual tendencies in the pure, great, equal realm of Dharma. The wisdom of contemplation understands the meaning of this and that as illusory. The wisdom of meditation, by focusing single-pointedly on the meaning of hearing and contemplation, generates the Samatha-Vipassana meditation, the cause of insight, in one's own continuum. This pacifies the afflictions of the mind, and through the Dharma-nature of insight, one realizes the ultimate truth as it is, and is liberated. As the Ornament of the Sutras says, "Sutra, Abhidhamma, and Vinaya, in short, the meaning is considered fourfold. If the wise know this, they will attain omniscience." Thus it is. Fourth, the division from the perspective of those to be trained515 is that there are expansions into four pitakas and contractions into two, so it is not definitive. From the perspective of the former, if it is divided into four pitakas, the basis of the name is knowledg

It is called the Vinaya of Mantras. Regarding this, Master Abhayakaragupta said that since it explains all three trainings, it is the three Pitakas; Master Sharnipa said that since it summarizes and explains the profound meaning, it is the Sutra Pitaka. Although based on the names Vajracchedika and Sutrasamuccaya, it is established as directly taught. Here, Master Arudevadeva separately classifies the Vidyadhara Pitaka as the fourth Pitaka, following this division, because it is for the sake of explaining the meaning to pure disciples, with many methods, few difficulties, and for the sake of those with sharp faculties. Which scripture demonstrates this? In the Sutrasamuccaya-Abhisheka Raja, it says: The three vehicles of guidance, O Bhagavan, you have certainly spoken. Since cause and effect are spontaneously accomplished, and one does not seek enlightenment from other Buddhas, why not speak of the definitive vehicle? And, if one generates faith in the cause and turns the wheel of the Dharma of the cause, then the defilements of the Vajrayana will be pacified, and it will arise in the future. Therefore, it is explained. Furthermore, if considered from the perspective of summarizing into two, in the Ornament it says: Two are also acceptable, thus it is established as two Pitakas based on the disposition of the disciples, namely the Shravaka Pitaka and the Bodhisattva Pitaka. Among these, the Shravaka Pitaka is for the sake of disciples with inferior intellect who are interested in the narrow path. The Bodhisattva Pitaka is for the sake of beings with superior intellect who are interested in the vast path. The difference between these two is that, if considered from the perspective of the Pitaka, the twelve scriptures of the Vaibhashika school and the seven Abhidharma treatises, etc., are the Shravaka Pitaka, while those unmentioned Prajnaparamita and Avatamsaka Sutra, etc., are the vast Pitakas of the Bodhisattva Pitaka. The distinguishing Dharma of the latter is stated in the Lankavatara Sutra: The five Dharmas and the three natures, the eight consciousnesses and the nature of the two selflessnesses, encompass all of the Mahayana. Furthermore, if considered from the perspective of the path and the result, Lord Maitreya said: The vast object and likewise the practice
