I, named ..., in order to not cut off the lineage of the Buddha, from this time until the place of the Bodhi tree, take refuge in the supreme of the two-legged beings, the perfectly complete Buddha, who possesses great compassion, is all-knowing, all-seeing, free from all fears, the great being, the best of great beings, whose body is inconceivable, the unsurpassed body, possessing the Dharma body. I take refuge in the Dharma, the supreme free from attachment, possessing the unsurpassed Tathagata, the peaceful Dharma body, each taking refuge in the Dharma of self-realization. I take refuge in the Sangha, the supreme of the disciplined assembly, the noble ones of the four directions, the non-returning Bodhi, the non-returning Bodhisattva, the Sangha of the great Bodhisattvas. In order to bring happiness to all sentient beings, in order to completely liberate all sentient beings from suffering, in order to bestow the wisdom of omniscience upon all sentient beings, just as they generated the unsurpassed, perfectly complete and awakened mind of enlightenment, so too, I, who am called so-and-so, from this time forth, until abiding at the heart of enlightenment, in order to liberate all sentient beings, in order to bring happiness to all sentient beings, in order to completely lead all sentient beings beyond suffering, in order to bestow the wisdom of omniscience upon all sentient beings, I will generate the unsurpassed, perfectly complete and awakened mind of enlightenment. Just as the Buddhas, the Arhats, the perfectly complete and awakened Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the past, with the equality of the selflessness of phenomena, having abandoned the aggregates, elements and sense-fields that are devoid of all things, having abandoned the reality of grasping and being grasped, generated the mind of enlightenment in the emptiness of their own mind, which is unborn from the very beginning, so too, I, who am called so-and-so, from this time forth, until arriving at the heart of enlightenment, will generate the mind of enlightenment. Just as the Buddhas, the Arhats, the perfectly complete and awakened Buddhas of the past, having manifestly realized perfect enlightenment, gathered the assembly, so too, I, who am called so-and-so, will manifestly realize enlightenment, and I will gather the assembly. I shall practice the supreme and pleasing conduct. For the benefit of beings, may I attain Buddhahood. Thus, recite three times. This is the generation of the mind of enlightenment. This root of virtue of my generation of the mind of enlightenment, and also the small amount of merit I have done, and will do, and all virtues, for the sake of all sentient beings, including parents, I dedicate entirely to the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. By this merit of mine, may I liberate sentient beings, including parents, who have not been liberated. May those who are not liberated be liberated. May those who have not found relief find relief. May those who have not completely passed into nirvana be led to complete nirvana. May those who have not manifested perfect enlightenment manifest perfect enlightenment. May I become a refuge, a place, and a companion for those in the world who have no refuge, no place, and no support. By this merit, may I quickly attain omniscience, defeat all enemies of faults, and liberate beings from the ocean of existence, from the great waves of old age, sickness, and death. Furthermore, whatever I have accumulated of generosity, kept of discipline, cultivated of patience, initiated of diligence, placed my mind evenly in meditation, practiced of wisdom, and whatever I have trained in skillful means, all of these, for the sake of all sentient beings, for their benefit and happiness, starting from the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, I will follow the past, future, and present Bodhisattvas, great beings with great compassion, who truly abide on the great path, who dwell on the great earth. Noble ones, I, a Bodhisattva, request you Bodhisattvas to accept me as a Bodhisattva. Like earth, water, fire, and wind, like herbs and forests of trees, may I be used by all sentient beings without desire or regret. Through seeing, hearing, touching, and remembering, may I heal all the diseases of all sentient beings. May all sentient beings be happy. May all bad migrations always be empty. Wherever Bodhisattvas reside, may all their wishes be fulfilled.
