Question: I am the son of awareness-mind, what is your upper body? Answer: The upper body is naked, the lower body is clothed. Likewise, understand this very nature of mind. This appearance of clothes arising dependent on the body, is a symbol of knowing that it arises dependent on the mind. Just as the body is not seen because it is covered by clothes, the mind is not seen because it is deluded by appearances. Just as when clothes are removed, what the body is is seen, likewise, in whatever appearances there are, the very nature of mind is seen. In this way, the empowerment is done by showing symbols. Hūṃ Hūṃ Hūṃ (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: hūṃ, Chinese literal meaning: Hum). In the beautiful maṇḍala of appearance as the Sambhogakāya, with the clear, ungrasping, various rainbow lights, may the mind itself be blessed to realize the unborn, the supreme lamp of emptiness of body and wisdom. Thus, the empowerment is given through uncontrived symbols, and the students offer gifts and perform a feast of experience. In order to realize appearance as emptiness, offer sons, wives, relatives, and assemblies to the lama. By offering the supreme person, the supreme meaning will be accomplished. If a middling person is not liberated by symbols, then the crucial instruction of decisive meditation is: do the three postures as before, and look with the eyes. Look at the realm of reality directly with the gaze of the Sambhogakāya. In the direct experience of the indivisibility of realm and awareness, without distraction, rest naturally in the natural state. After the very nature of mind is liberated into emptiness, all manifest awareness becomes unreal, and the self-luminous clarity of the nature of reality becomes an experience. Light and light circles, rainbow lights appear. That experience itself increases more and more. Bindus, tiny bindus, radiating rays, standing upright, and in the bindus appear forms and light circles. Even when they appear, they are only appearances, without substance. If that is prolonged continuously, then contaminated appearances disappear, and wisdom appearances arise. In all visible appearances such as rainbows and lights, without grasping, liberate into emptiness-clarity. The wisdom appearances become luminous, and attachment arises. In the realm of self-appearance emptiness, in the state of awareness, experience the conduct of non-dual wisdom and non-conceptual state. Whatever is done, it appears the same in every way. It is only appearance, without grasping, in the state of sky. Since there is no clarity or obscurity, realm and awareness are mixed, and one's own mind appearance is liberated into emptiness. In emptiness itself, there is nothing to meditate on. That which has nothing to meditate on is the meditation on the meaning of objectlessness. That which has something to meditate on is

The Dharma with targeted characteristics is not meditation, but a mistaken perception of grasping. Meditating in a state without targeted characteristics is the Sambhogakaya (enjoyment body) of luminosity without grasping. The great self-arisen wisdom is manifested. The signs and measures of its establishment are: as real signs, the three of body, speech, and mind, the body is visible to all by nature, the speech is frank and unlearned, and the Dharma language comes spontaneously. In the mind, clairvoyance arises without obstruction. The devotion to the guru is especially great and radiant. As signs of experience, one's own body turns into light, one's own sounds appear like echoes in a cave, the mind becomes luminous and the body appears. The measure of the liberation of experience and emptiness in meaning is that the increase and decrease of appearances do not appear as objects, but only the state of seeing light is the measure. In the nature of emptiness without grasping anything, the essence itself is realized to be liberated in its own place. If there is no day or night and it is grasped in dreams, the measure of experience reaches the emptiness of Dharma nature. If it is concealed, the aggregates of the three years with outflows will not appear, and one will attain Buddhahood in the Sambhogakaya. If the measure is not reached, one will be liberated in the Bardo (intermediate state). The increase and decrease of experience are exhausted and the measure is reached. Because the emptiness and clarity of Dharma nature manifest the Sambhogakaya, the Dharma nature is not placed in the realm of understanding, but is accomplished through experience. Emaho! The essence of mind is emptiness. If an ordinary person does not realize this, then the oral instructions are proclaimed in words. The experience of emptiness of mind itself arises, but the experience of the indivisibility of space and wisdom is not understood. If one clings to experience, one errs in characteristics. If one grasps at characteristics, even if one grasps at Dharma, it is a mistake. If there is attachment, even emptiness becomes form. Because appearances are not liberated into emptiness, if one does not realize the meaning of the indivisibility of appearance and emptiness, it is conventional truth and one falls into the extremes of permanence and annihilation. Even if one knows appearances as mind, one is not liberated, and the clear emptiness of self-arisen wisdom is not seen and is obscured. To realize that meaning, one establishes it through meditation. Whatever arises of the experience of seeing, the experience of feeling, or the experience of knowing, do not be distracted on top of it. That itself is meditation. Through meditation, that itself disappears without aim. The essence of delusion and non-delusion is the same. Because the mind stream does not become two in going, by leaving the mind itself uncorrected and abiding in its own place, it is like going on top of the water of a mirage. Because there is no water, the mirage disappears. If there is water, then there is fire.
