Have faith in all self-appearances. In the bardo wandering in existence, Abandon attachment to the continuation of karma. Firstly, in the bardo of the place of birth, When deciding on the category of what is to be known, Rely on a qualified lama, Cut off external imputation through hearing, Cut off internal imputation through meditation, Decide on the category of objects through what is to be known, Decide on the category of mind through gathering, Decide on the non-duality of appearance and mind, In secret, establish the definite view of Trekchö, In the most secret, establish the definite view of Tögal, May you be endowed with the confidence of signs and measures. Having said this, he remained at ease. From the general essence of the Great Perfection, the Longchen Rabjam Tantra, the forty-seventh chapter, which teaches the general characteristics of the bardo and the instructions on the bardo of birth and death. Samaya. Seal, seal, seal. (Vajrasattva again asked, "O, Teacher Samantabhadra, if the bardo of the place of birth is like that, how does the bardo of the moment of death appear?" The Teacher replied, "Ah, Vajrasattva, listen! In the bardo of the mother of death, first examine and deceive death. Even if it cannot be reversed, apply the clarity of the instructions. There are three signs of death: outer, inner, and secret. The outer signs of death are the omens where unfavorable things appear first. The senses are unclear, anger increases, wealth and enjoyment are depleted, one's own mind is scattered, dreams are disturbed, one cannot practice virtue, one cannot sit still, bad dreams frequently occur, fear arises, teachings are unclear, wrong views arise, past actions change, and attachment and aversion become intense. These are the signs of obstacles entering. Because of the changes that occur internally, therefore, examine the life force within. The black hair on the crown of the head is not clear, the color is mixed, the limbs are missing, the form is fierce, powerful, and peaceful. If the limbs shrink or the color changes, it is an inner sign. The secret is what appears in the mind: the guru, yidam, dakini, or Dharma protector gives prophecies in form, as well as clairvoyance, miraculous powers, and abilities. Without having practiced, one can demonstrate. Compassion does not arise, distraction arises. In lineage, temporary, and real things, in gentleness and harshness, obstacles are created for the yogi. Pride, jealousy, hope, doubt, arrogance, and the demon of attachment take hold. They obscure life and excellence. The two aims of the yogi will not be accomplished. Therefore, cherish this profound instruction and keep it in mind."

Thus, the remedies for outer, inner, and secret signs of death: When outer signs of death arise, recognize them as obstacles and hold mindfulness. Accumulate merit and perform virtuous deeds to the best of your ability. Rely on the lama and offer prayers. Generate devotion and request empowerment. Diligently engage in averting practices and fulfillments. Devote yourself to the essential points of virtuous practice instructions. By these means, obstacles will be pacified. If inner signs arise, the remedy is as follows: On gro-ga cloth or tree bark, draw the wheel of the five elements, complete with four petals, a center, and a circumference. Write the seed syllables of earth, water, fire, wind, and space, each in its respective place. Surround the circumference with A अली(Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Meaning in Chinese) and KA kāli(Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Meaning in Chinese). Having drawn the five wheels in this way, write the seed syllables and the age of the person in their respective places. Invoke and subdue the deities of the five elements. Prepare food mixed with wood, fire, earth, water, various substances, and the breath of animals. Make a powerful ransom offering and a deterrent. Circle the food with a ransom offering corresponding to the age. Offer tormas and alcohol in the same way. Bless them with mantras and mudras. Recite vajra words and cast them into water. This can avert death for up to three years. Because it is very profound, put it into practice. The remedy for secret death is as follows: When favorable conditions and merit arise, the best practitioner takes it as an opportunity to revel in the nature of reality. The middling practitioner trains attachment as illusion. The lowest practitioner flees like a wild animal. Without having gained stability in the supreme, do not change from the state of the nature of reality. Whatever appears is one's own mind, therefore, decide within yourself and abandon fear. By looking at the mind, there is no attainment. By this, confusion is pacified. When confusion is pacified, one is a Buddha. In that instant, one will be liberated. By this remedy for secret death, one overcomes the maras and becomes a Buddha. If the time has come and cannot be averted, and disease afflicts the body of a person, whoever experiences these signs, the time of their death is certain. When earth dissolves into earth, the body becomes heavy and does not eat. All strength to stand, sit, walk is exhausted. When water dissolves into water, saliva and nasal mucus drip. Likewise, when fire dissolves into fire, the mouth and nose become extremely dry. All warmth at the extremities of the body is lost. Likewise, when wind dissolves into wind, the breath becomes labored and the limbs tremble. The eyes also roll upwards. Whoever experiences these signs, will not remain in this world but will go to another. Because they will certainly go, at that time, the lama's instructions, etc., should be integrated into one's own mind-stream. Clarify with these meanings.
