When it is time to speak, utter the syllable Hūṃ (ཧཱུྃ,吽,hūṃ,seed syllable) with your voice. Increase blessings and cultivate diligence, enter the path of seeking a companion. Thus, taming speech benefits the mind, reversing the attachment to speech purifies speech obscurations. The mind's preliminary practice involves taking into the mind the suffering of the six realms, transforming the five poisons and three poisons into the mandala of deities, and contemplating the various thoughts and concepts of the three times. Meditate on the illusory nature of all compounded things, that everything is subject to decay. Examine whether the master of these meditations is connected to the mind or not. If it is connected to the mind, examine which is greater, virtue or vice. Then, compare this mind to what it is similar to, comparing many similar things. Then, determine which of the three, body, speech, and mind, is the most important. Then, search for the place of origin of the mind, and when it is not found, encounter the Dharmakaya. Then, search for the place of dwelling of the mind, and when it is not found, encounter the Sambhogakaya. Then, search for the place of going of the mind, and when it is not found, encounter the Nirmanakaya. Thus, through the actions of the mind, attachment is reversed, obstacles are pacified, obscurations have no momentary gap, and liberation in the Dharmakaya transcends duality. Then, to settle into the natural state, the body's settling is immobility, there is a need to increase the aggregates and elements. The speech's settling is non-speaking, there is a need for inexpressible manifestation. The mind's settling is to cut off proliferation and gathering, there is a need to liberate from clinging. The ultimate need is that when the body is at ease, it touches the Nirmanakaya; when the speech is at ease, it touches the Sambhogakaya; when the mind is at ease, it touches the Dharmakaya. The common arising is not confused, and ultimately, the clinging to body, speech, and mind is self-purified. Then, the action of remaining in place is to sit on a cushion with inner lining, with legs in the vajra posture. Place both hands in the mudra of equipoise, straighten the body like an arrow shaft. Stretch the arms like the wings of a garuda, bend the neck like a bow. Raise the body, chest, and shoulders like a ship, align the eyes and the tip of the nose with the tip of the mind. Thus, complete the preliminary practices. From the root text of the Longchen Rabjam, the essence of all vehicles, the thirty-fifth chapter, the chapter on preliminary practices, is complete. Samaya. Seal, seal, seal. Vajrasattva asked again: Kyeho! Great decisive Samantabhadra, although you have spoken of the preliminary practices, please speak of the actual practice.

The reply was given: Aho, Vajra Valiant One! The actual basis of practice is this: the ground is Trekchö (khregs chod) and Tögal (thod rgal), the result is the complete three kayas. With the two stages of wisdom, experience the essence of meaning. For the paths with objects, explain the methods of meditation and what is to be meditated upon. For the self-appearing wisdom of rigpa, explain the methods of examination as one. All of these, with two summary words, distinguish the differences in stages, entering the minds of practitioners. All of this is the self-certainty of appearance. For wisdom with objects, explain the instructions of Trekchö, the differences in stages are like this, practice within Trekchö itself. The nature of reality is free from effort, the body and mind remain in a state of non-action. When the nature of reality self-appears, conceptual thoughts arise as great wisdom. By the liberation of the nature of reality in its own place, there is no rejection or establishment in appearance itself. The nature of reality of body and mind without action, because there is no action, is primordially liberated. By abandoning action and activity, happiness is found. Liberation is self-born, not from another. Non-action is established as the basis. When the actions of samsara and nirvana are separated, it is none other than Dzogchen itself. Aho! Bodhichitta is never to be sought. Remain in the natural state as it is, without fabrication, let go as you please. Because self and other with objects do not exist from the beginning, let go of impartial rigpa as you please. Because there is always no separation from it, let go of non-dual, objectless, impartial as you please. Because there is nothing other than effortless perfection, let go of the body that is the ground of being, stable and vast. Characteristics are unceasing, all kinds of things appear. Naked seeing of the senses, whatever appears is the clear nature of reality. Appearance is vast, rigpa is happy as it pleases. Unfabricated, naturally abiding, rigpa is blissful in its expanse. Awareness is vast, like a person without action. Without tightness or looseness, body and mind abide as they please. Unfabricated by anyone, self-illuminated by itself. Without effort or accomplishment, the nature of reality is blissfully expanded, because it is primordially so, how could there be fabrication? Alone, unfabricated, blissfully self-liberated in the expanse. Without reliance, free from bias, there is no holding. Without holding, self-arisen, is the play of Kuntuzangpo. The six aggregates are subdued, appearance is vast. Inner and outer mingling, the great expanse of non-action. Because it is neither anything nor nothing, the wondrous and amazing is the dharma of non-action. The vehicle of samsara and nirvana.
