Indeed. Those are the nature of the four maras. On the path of accumulation, there are four maras. The six afflictions at the time of accumulation are the mara of afflictions. If one does not separate from the mara of afflictions, one's own mind will not become peaceful. The aggregates of appropriation, etc., of accumulation should be known as the mara of aggregates. Whatever shows the mistakes and obscurations of accumulation, the lama is the mara of the son of gods. There is no pure birth on the path of accumulation. Whatever is born from the unborn, it should be known as the mara of death. Such arising of the four maras is the mara of the son of gods. With faith and diligence, and with precious things such as gold and silver, and with horses and elephants, etc., abandon the mara of the son of gods, and always rely on the supreme lama. Cut off the root of the treasure of secret instructions, and always abandon the fear of the mara. Destroying the four maras of fear is also known from the supreme lama. Then, the four maras of the path of joining, the six afflictions at the time of joining, are known as the mara of afflictions. The mistake of the path of joining, the teacher lama is the mara of the son of gods. The arising of afflictions is also that itself. The profound path of joining has no birth. It is a mistake to be born from the unborn. These are the mara of death, and this also arises from this. The aggregates of appropriation, etc., of the path of joining, the various thoughts are the mara of aggregates. That also arises from the son of gods. Thus, the root of the mara is the mara of the son of gods. To the lama who is like the eye, generate devotion and respect, etc. Generate fear from the fear of the mara. After being afraid, seek a peaceful method to destroy the mara. Then, the four maras of the path of seeing, whatever shows the mistakes of the path of seeing, one who is like a lama is the mara of the son of gods. Immediately, joy and happiness arise like a god, and an obstacle to happiness becomes a mara. From that, the mara of afflictions arises. The mistaken path accomplishes mental afflictions, and becomes the mara of afflictions. Generating suffering is affliction, and because it obstructs virtue, it is a mara. This is also the root of the mara, and the three of the power of afflictions arise. Such transformed afflictions can never be destroyed. That which shows the mistaken path is definitely the mara of aggregates. Because many gather, it is an aggregate, and because it obstructs that, it is a mara. If that mara is not quickly destroyed, there is not a moment to be born in samsara. Those

Birth is caused by straying from the teachings; this is the Lord of Death demon. Death occurs from not realizing the unborn; cutting off life is a demon. If one abides in the unborn Dharma, the Lord of Death demon is like a monkey. These are the four visible demons. Furthermore, the four demons of the path of meditation show the straying from the path of meditation. The deceiving teacher is the god demon; his teachings cause mental afflictions. Afflictions should be known as demons; death arises from the power of afflictions; this is the Lord of Death demon. The appropriation of the path of meditation is the skandha demon; other than the skandhas, there are no other demons. Thus, the root of demons is definitely the skandha demon. Without subduing the demons, one will never traverse the ground and the path. Furthermore, the four demons of the result, whoever shows the straying of the result, the accumulating teacher is the god demon. Thus, from practicing the path of the result, sentient beings' afflictions are the affliction demon, thereby falling into the abyss of birth; it is definitely the Lord of Death demon. Its various multiplicities are definitely the skandha demon. These are the four demons of the result. The four demons of effortless completion, in effortless completion, the one who shows straying is the demon of the son of the gods. From this, the mind becomes afflicted; affliction is the demon; many afflictions are the skandha demon; the fear arising from the skandhas is the Lord of Death demon. These are the four arising demons; if the four demons are not subdued, the signs of the mother will not be found. If the mother is not found, happiness will not be found. If emptiness is not found, reality will not be found. Living closely is life; the one who cuts off life is a demon. The one who causes fear and terror is a demon. The one who causes falling and obstruction is a demon. The one who leads to the wrong path and abyss is a demon. The one who destroys self-knowing and self-illumination is a demon. The one who extinguishes the lamp of wisdom is a demon. Do not be afraid of such demons; one should know the characteristics of demons. From the self-knowing of effortless, spontaneous completion, the straying of one's own mind appears as a demon. Other than the mind, there are no demons whatsoever. For example, from medicine and mantras, men and women appear. Similarly, from the straying of one's own mind, the Lord of Death and other demons appear. Although they appear, they are not different from the mind; it is the straying mind of oneself.
