Ignorance is due to not understanding. The faults of attachment to it are: moths die from attachment to candles, crickets die from attachment to pleasant sounds, flies die from attachment to unclean odors, fish die from attachment to the taste of food, and elephants die from attachment to soft cloth or touch. Therefore, one should abandon the five objects of desire. The cause is the objects of desire, along with the faults of attachment to them! Arising has two aspects: because of relying on the cause—the three poisons—the result, the suffering of the six realms, arises, hence it is arising. Or, because of relying on the cause—the three poisons—karma is accumulated, and from that, the suffering of the six realms transforms, hence it is arising (Tibetan: ས་མུ་ད་ཡ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: समुदय, Sanskrit Romanization: samudaya, Literal Chinese meaning: arising). As it is said: Arising (Tibetan: ས་མུ་ད་ཡ་ཀྱ་སྨཱ་ད་ཀརྨ་ཀླེ་ན་ལཀྵ་རྞཱ་ད་, Sanskrit Devanagari: समुदयक्यस्मात्कर्मक्लेशनलक्षणात्, Sanskrit Romanization: samudayakyasmātkarmakleśalakṣaṇāt, Literal Chinese meaning: arising, because of the characteristics of karma and affliction). Suffering arises from these characteristics of karma and affliction. Among these, affliction refers to desire, etc., which wishes to be reborn and arise again in the three realms. Karma refers to non-virtue and contaminated virtue, which is called arising. Relying on the three poisons, the result is the six realms of bad migrations! Increase has two aspects: the cause is the arising of conceptual thought, and the result is the arising of suffering in this life and future lives. The cause is conceptual thought, and the result is the arising of suffering in this life and future lives. Following the cause—conceptual thought, the result is the suffering of food and clothing in this life, and the suffering of death and taking rebirth in future lives, all of which increase. Or, suffering increases from conceptual thought! The aspect of conditions is as follows: the aspect of conditions is threefold: present, past, and future conditions. The present suffering itself arises from the karma of previous lives, and such suffering itself becomes the cause of future lives in the past. That very thing in future lives also becomes the cause of future lives in the future. Therefore, suffering is transmitted from one suffering to another, because it arises as a condition for arising. Present, past, and future conditions! Cessation is called cessation (Tibetan: རོ་དྷེ་, Sanskrit Devanagari: रोध, Sanskrit Romanization: rodhe). As it is said: Cessation (Tibetan: ནི་རོ་དྷྱནྟེ་ཨ་སྨིན་སརྦ་ཀླེ་ཤ་ཨི་ཏི།, Sanskrit Devanagari: निरोध्यन्ते अस्मिन्सर्वक्लेश इति, Sanskrit Romanization: nirodhyante asminsarvakleśa iti, Literal Chinese meaning: in this, all afflictions cease). Because cessation is attained, all afflictions cease, hence it is called cessation. Cessation is the self-manifestation of cause, condition, and result. Cessation is the cessation together with suffering. The cause—affliction—ceases, hence it is cessation. The condition—that which follows conceptual thought—ceases, hence it is cessation. The result—suffering—ceases, hence it is

So, what is "cessation"? For example, in the Trigatika Vihara, just as a monk enters a state of cessation, all the continuities of conceptual thoughts cease, so it is called "cessation." Because the Shravakas understand and practice the meaning of the Four Noble Truths, the Shravakas enter a state of cessation, hoping to hate the teachings of Maitreya. There are five kinds of peace: the fire of afflictions is extinguished, the fire of faults is extinguished, the fire of enjoyment is extinguished, the fire of conduct is extinguished, and the fire of feeling is extinguished. The extinguishing of the fire of afflictions means that in the state of Nirvana, there are no three poisons of afflictions. Because the three poisons are completely eradicated from the root. The extinguishing of the fire of faults means that in the state of Nirvana, all the sufferings of Samsara are extinguished, and all the faults of dwelling in Samsara are extinguished. The extinguishing of the fire of enjoyment means that in the state of Nirvana, there is no suffering of formation. There is no suffering of food and drink. The extinguishing of the fire of conduct means that there is no discomfort in all activities of going, sleeping, sitting, and lying down. Feeling means that all feelings in the three realms cannot go beyond the three feelings. All pleasant feelings are the suffering of change, all painful feelings are the suffering of suffering, and all neutral feelings are the suffering of formation. There are no three feelings in Nirvana. The Shravakas enter a state of cessation without suffering, so it is peaceful. The five fires are extinguished, so it is peaceful. There are no afflictions or faults, enjoyment, conduct, and feeling are extinguished. Barren land of afflictions, there are three kinds of barrenness: the barrenness of afflictions, the barrenness of evil destinies, and the barrenness of suffering. The barrenness of afflictions means that the barren land of afflictions is not moistened by Shamatha-Vipashyana, and is not plowed by the plow of wisdom, then all the seedlings of transcendence will not grow. The barrenness of evil destinies means that if the barren land of evil destinies is not moistened by the Noble Path, then the state of liberation in the heavens will not arise. The barrenness of suffering means that if the barren land of suffering is not moistened by happiness, then the Noble Path will not arise, so it must be moistened by happiness. Because it is free from all faults, it is called barren. Because it is free from the three faults of barrenness, it is called barren. The three of evil destinies, suffering, and barrenness. The causes and conditions that definitely arise. There are four kinds of certainty: the cause is certain, the condition, the path, and the result are certain. The first is that the root of all afflictions is ignorance, and the deep habitual seeds.
