Asked: How are the characteristics and examples of intention? Thus asked. He taught: The example of intention is like a great wind. Like a great wind in the land, vast and empty. All thoughts can be accommodated. Like a great sandstorm. Without the mind of knowing and grasping, the nature of reality is clear. Like a great river, the flow is continuous. Without distraction, the nature of reality is clear. Thus he said. From the Tantra of the Essence of the Secret Mantra of Manjushri Sixty Thousand. The chapter on illustrating the definitive meaning with examples, the five hundred and twenty-fourth chapter. Then, to the Great Vajradhara. Bodhisattva, great Bodhisattva. The Essence of Space again asked. Great Vajradhara, Thus Come One. Please explain the definitive meaning and oral instructions with examples. Thus asked. He taught: The true definitive meaning of the ground itself is, Because there is no cause or condition, it is self-arising. The example is like an illusion of the elements. Because there is no object, it is emptiness itself. The example is like clear space. Because it is not material, awareness is clear. The example is like the essence of the sun. Without hope or fear, it is spontaneously accomplished. The example is like a precious jewel. Because there is no duality, it is non-dual and one. The example is like shape and color. Because there is no stain, it is completely pure. The example is like a clean mirror. Because there is no bias, it is equality itself. The example is like clear space. Beyond the extreme of annihilation, awareness is clear. Beyond the extreme of permanence, it is emptiness itself. Because it is beyond extremes, it does not abide in the middle. All individual things are clear and unmixed. Like a precious jewel on the heights of Kashmir. Thus he said. Again asked: How is the definitive meaning of mind itself? Thus asked. He taught: The true definitive meaning of mind itself is, Because mind itself has no form to rely on, Its nature is one with the realm of space. Because mind itself has no color or shape, It is originally separate from all things. Because mind itself has no object, It does not establish this as a basis for grasping. Because mind itself has no seed, The stream of birth and death is unbearable and ceases. Because mind itself has no cause or condition, It is self-arising and does not depend on others. Because mind itself has no beginning or end, It is constantly equal in the three times. Because mind itself has no edge or center, Great awareness abides vast and pervasive. Because mind itself has no object, Its nature is one with the realm of space. Because mind itself has no effort, Its nature is originally completely pure. Mind

Because it has no obscuration, self-awareness abides purely and clearly. Because mind itself has no self-grasping, it is free from extreme accusations. Because mind itself has no limitations, reasoning blazes purely in all directions. Because mind itself is unmixed and completely perfect, there is no grasping at various appearances. Because mind itself is self-arising, there is no disturbance of cause, condition, birth, or cessation. Thus it was said. Again, it was asked: What is the definitive characteristic of mind itself? Please explain, Vajrasattva. Thus it was asked. The response was given: Although the characteristics of mind are inconceivable, the true definitive meaning is as follows: In the characteristic of mind itself, from the beginning, there is no causeless entity. There is no condition, no change, no interruption. There is no birth, and no abiding. There is no cessation, and no grasping. There is no examination, and no examiner. There is no sign, and no grasper or grasped. There is no self-nature, therefore no characteristic. There is no conceptual thought, no movement. There is no latent tendency, no change. There is no obscuration, and it is self-illuminating. Because there is no partiality, there is no beginning or end. Because there is no object of experience, there is no good or bad. From equality itself, there is no self or other. It is infinite, boundless, without beginning or end. There is no conceptual thought, no impurity. There is no object, no change, no latent imprint. There is no inner or outer, therefore no object of experience. It is ungraspable, and there is no increase or decrease. It is unbroken, and does not fall into partiality. It is self-born, self-aware, self-illuminating. Self-arisen, self-purified, self-liberated. Ungraspable, yet truly clear. Free from the ego-grasping of latent tendencies. Unmade by cause and condition, self-arising. Without a basis for antidotes, uncompounded. Because there is no self-nature, it is emptiness itself. Because there is no obscuration, it is self-illuminating. There is no entity established as emptiness. Primordially pure, therefore transparent. Self-arising, without beginning or end, abiding in its own uncorrected, unadulterated state. The true essence is uncompounded. Awareness is vast, pervasive, beyond limits. The definitive meaning is the true essence, the very nature. Because mind itself has no entity, there is no karmic ripening for actions. If the dominion of karma were forcibly determined, then the self-arising of true primordial wisdom would become devoid of definitive essence. Therefore, all the latent imprints of virtue and vice, because they are not established as a false basis, are the intention of the pure Buddha. For example, on pure manashila (realgar), it is impossible to carve rust and impurities. The intention of the Buddha is also the same.
