Second. Then, to the Great Vajradhara, The Bodhisattva Mahasattva, Essence of Space, asked this: Great Vajradhara, Lord of the Buddhas, "The 'Ground' as it is, what is it like?" When thus asked, Vajradhara replied: "That nature that has been present from the beginning, Not altered by actions, efforts, or names, When its own way remains in its own place, It is called 'The Ground as it is.'" Having said this, he further asked: "What is 'Spontaneously Accomplished' like?" When thus asked, he replied: "That very thing that has been present from the beginning, Without effort or seeking, all is gathered, Fruits and qualities are fully perfected, It is called 'Spontaneously Accomplished.'" Having said this, he further asked: "What is 'Free from Grasping' like?" When thus asked, he replied: "Without object and free from clinging, Without direction, beyond limit, self-luminous, It is called 'Free from Grasping.'" Having said this, he further asked: "What is 'Non-Dual' like?" When thus asked, he replied: "Not abandoning distinctions, not focusing on objects, The appearance of duality is not established from the beginning, Without limit, without direction, without peer, It is called 'Non-Dual.'" Having said this. He further asked: "What is 'Great Self' like?" When thus asked, he replied: "All-pervading and gathering everything, Completely accomplishing all with qualities and abilities, Since there is no other dharma apart from it, It is called 'Great Self.'" Having said this, he further asked: "What is 'Great Bindu' like?" When thus asked, he replied: "Without error, without alteration, without change, Vast and pervasive, supreme, the very truth, Without elaboration, beyond limit, It is called 'Great Bindu.'" Having said this, he further asked: "What is 'Self-Arisen Wisdom' like?" When thus asked, he replied: "Not produced by cause or condition, present from the beginning, The very awareness that is uncompounded, Without obscuration, without cessation, all clear, It is called 'Self-Arisen Wisdom.'" Having said this, he further asked: "What is 'Free from Effort' like?" When thus asked, he replied: "Beyond the limit of striving and exertion, The very ultimate truth of true certainty, Because it is free from effort, without hope or fear, It is called 'Free from Effort.'" Having said this, he further asked: "What is 'Completely Pure' like?" When thus asked, he replied: "Without substance, without name, without stain, Clear and transparent, possessing radiance, Because it is without obscuration, self-aware, and all-penetrating, It is called 'Completely Pure.'" Having said this, he further asked:

Olpa: What is the nature body (Svabhavikakaya)? The answer was: The source of samsara and nirvana is ignorance. Self-born, self-aware, and abiding in its own nature, without beginning or end, and uncreated, it is called the nature body. Again asked: What is the Dharma body (Dharmakaya)? The answer was: Unborn, unceasing, utterly pure, uncreated, without any grasping, self-illuminating, self-arising, without clinging, it is explained as the Dharma body. Again asked: What is suchness (Dharmata)? The answer was: The uncreated nature abides unchanging. Its very nature is utterly pure, unadulterated, naturally unmixed. Suchness is said to be immutable. Again asked: What is the sphere of reality (Dharmadhatu)? The answer was: Vastly pervasive, without substance, and expansive, the source of all things, uncreated and pure, deep, profound, and without limit, it is therefore explained as the sphere of reality. Again asked: What is unmixed completeness? The answer was: The characteristics of all phenomena are self-illuminating. From the beginning, it abides in the nature of reality. Because it does not deviate from its manifold nature, it is unmixed and completely perfect. Again asked: What is the Sugata-garbha (Tathagatagarbha)? The answer was: All phenomena arise and gather together. All-pervasive, possessing essence, the abode of all, likewise, all Buddhas arise from it, it is the essence of the Sugata. Again asked: What is the great emptiness of self-nature? The answer was: Having transcended desire and characteristics, without substance, without object, without grasping, untouched by mind, uncreated, it is the great emptiness of self-nature. Again asked: What is equality (Samata)? The answer was: Without partiality and without interruption, without good or bad, acceptance or rejection, without self or other, in this common, vast expanse, it is explained as equality. Again asked: What is the great ground appearance? The answer was: In the nature of reality that has always abided, whatever appears is unceasing and clear. Because samsara and nirvana are self-appearing and self-illuminating, the ground itself is the great appearance. Again asked: What is all and what is not? The answer was: Samsara and nirvana
