In those passages, there appears "E vaṃ māyā śruta me ka smin sa ma ye." Furthermore, Rongzom Mahāpaṇḍita said, "This tantra does not have the letters 'mā' and 'yā,' therefore there is no basis for collecting from it." Although he said so, the immediately cited explanatory tantra verses show that there are the letters 'māyā.' In Thar Lo's translation, it also appears, "At the time when I spoke these words," because 'māyā' is transformed into a form of giving 'ṭa' to 'a-smad' to translate. Therefore, Thar Lo mainly did phonetic translation, while the great translators of the past mainly did semantic translation, like the condensed explanations of the explanatory tantra texts. What is established here is that, as it says in the Thugs Thig, "It is understood through four letters," therefore it should be based on the meaning indicated by the four letters 'E vaṃ māyā.' Among them, 'Evaṃ' has meanings such as "Thus said," "Thus," and "Likewise." Here, 'E' is considered to be a form of adding the seventh case 'tra' to the Sanskrit word 'idam,' indicating 'this'; 'vaṃ' is the feminine form of the Sanskrit word 'vaca,' indicating 'sound'; the sound of 'māyā,' as stated in the commentary of the Omniscient Great One, has meanings such as "nature," "illusion," "self," and "arising," and here 'arising' is taken, translated as "at the time of speaking." Thus, 'E,' represented by 'this' and so on, is the space of the five mothers, that is, the place; 'vaṃ' is 'vaṃ vajra,' that is, the nature of Samantabhadra Vajra, which is the expresser; 'ma' is 'madana' vow, and the sound of 'manas,' which is mind and other consciousnesses, that is, the retinue and the gatherer; 'ya' is the sound of 'yāna,' which is the vehicle, that is, the expressed. Moreover, 'ba' indicates 'paramārtha,' that is, the ultimate meaning, which is the profound meaning of luminosity or innate wisdom. Alternatively, 'ya' is considered to be an abbreviation of the ending of 'samaya,' and also indicates time. In accordance with this, the former Khenpos, the Dharma-eyed ones, also combined 'this' and other words separately with Tibetan words such as place, and determined them through translation and explanation. However, because Sanskrit cannot be combined with Tibetan as Chinese can, it is best to explain it here by combining both languages. Furthermore, the idea that it is necessary to combine the letter 'pa' in 'speaking' and the two letters in the verse 'the sound pa is ultimate meaning' is obviously a confusion of Chinese and Tibetan expressions, so it is not considered good. Here is a digression.

GAL Answer: Some say that in all other sutras and tantras, there is the statement, "Thus have I heard at one time," but here it is not mentioned, so the topic is wrong and it is not the true word of the Buddha. In response to this, Lhaje Glen Shakya Zang said: Although the words for speaking and hearing are different, the meaning is the same when Shakyamuni Buddha speaks to the retinue and the retinue hears from Shakyamuni Buddha. However, hearing does not encompass speaking, so it is not well understood. Lhaje Da Tig said: Hearing may have the three faults of not understanding, misunderstanding, and doubt, but here, saying "speaking" is because the teacher and retinue are not dualistic, and one speaks to oneself, so the previous three faults are eliminated. But this statement is not reasonable, because merely speaking does not necessarily eliminate the three faults, and it is not universal. Moreover, there is a contradiction in hearing oneself when there is no duality. Also, your views, O lamas and Je Drophuk, are the differences in the teachings of the two bodies (Sambhogakaya and Nirmanakaya), because the Sambhogakaya does not speak words, so it cannot be heard by the ears, therefore it is said to be "speaking"; while the Nirmanakaya speaks words, so it can be heard. If the word "speaking" appears universally in the tantras spoken by the Sambhogakaya, then it should appear in all the tantras taught by the Sambhogakaya, but in reality it does not, so I am doubtful about this. Je Drinpa said: The teacher's intention is to use symbolic speech, and the compilers narrated it without reducing or adding anything. This view is the same as the previous view in intention, but I do not see any contradiction in this. My own view is: When Vajrapani is compiling, he himself promises to be the teacher, saying, "What I spoke in Akanishta before, I will speak here again," and "at the time" does not refer to an occasional time, but to the constant and continuous wheel of Dharma. Through this statement, the uncommon aspects of other tantras are established, and thus the compilation is done. In the Extensive Commentary of Sunlight Lion, it says that "speaking" indicates that the teacher and retinue are not dualistic. And so on. In Spar Khab, it also says that this is an uncommon topic, because it is different from other tantras. Someone retorted: If that is the case, then the beginning of the Root Tantra of Peaceful Gathering of Hevajra should also have the statement "Thus have I spoken at the time." Because in that tantra, the teacher and retinue are the same tantra.
