This is contradictory. According to the second view, since it teaches the method of liberation without abandoning afflictions, all mantras should become expedient paths. If accepted, then mantras should become paths with absolutely no liberation. This cannot be accepted, because the Rim gsum says, "There are two types of Madhyamaka, showing the path of liberation as an expedient." This is contradictory. The second is that mainly through the three doors of wisdom, liberation from the bondage of knowledge leads to the accomplishment of the result, which is the path of liberation. As it is said, "In the mandala of perfect wisdom, through the combination of hearing, thinking, and meditating, self-arisen and spontaneous accomplishment." Mainly through the door of means and instructions, practicing bondage with asceticism quickly accomplishes the result, which is the expedient path. As it is said, "Wonderful is the means of liberation from the lower realms, the very nature of unborn suchness from the beginning, illusory appearance like an eye disease, although all actions of union and liberation are performed, not even a particle is done." And, "By the mudra of Āli अली (Tibetan, Devanagari: अलि, Romanized Sanskrit: ali, literal Chinese meaning: A) and Kāli कालि (Tibetan, Devanagari: कालि, Romanized Sanskrit: kali, literal Chinese meaning: Ka), everything, everything will be accomplished." Furthermore, if these two paths are explained with examples, they will be easily understood. Just as the mixture of orpiment transforms iron into gold, it is a quick path of skillful means, so it is the expedient path. But it is not the case that without relying on it, there is no other method of alchemy. Just as the stone placed together with the jewel कौस्तुभ (Tibetan, Devanagari: कौस्तुभ, Romanized Sanskrit: kaustubha, literal Chinese meaning: Kaustubha jewel) turns into gold, this is precisely the example of the path of liberation. The third view is that even so, the path of liberation does not need means and instructions, and the expedient path does not need the three wisdoms. If this is thought, then a distinction should be made. It is accepted that it is mainly not needed, but it is not necessarily not needed at all. As Rechungpa Nyeton's "Lamp that Clears Away Obstacles" says, "Are these two paths head-to-head or back-to-back? They are head-to-head, because one is needed as a condition for the other." If so, is there no need to divide them into two? There is a need, because it is established from the perspective of what is mainly done to obtain the result. The previous example is also very consistent with the meaning. Those who mainly rely on the three wisdoms in the path of liberation, thereby being able to be competent in the view of equality, compared to those who accept extraordinary ascetic practices in the expedient path, thereby being able to be competent in the view of equality, it is said in all the unsurpassed tantras that the latter is much faster. 因此,就像Mākṣī(མཀྵྀའི་,梵文天城体,mākṣī,蜂蜜)的比喻和Kaustubha(ཀཽ་སྟུ་བྷའི་,梵文天城体,kaustubha, कौस्तुभ,吉祥宝)的比喻所显示的那样,虽然结果都是黄金,但有快慢的差别。

Therefore, just as the analogy of Mākṣī (མཀྵྀའི་, Devanagari: mākṣī, honey) and the analogy of Kaustubha (ཀཽ་སྟུ་བྷའི་, Devanagari: kaustubha, कौस्तुभ, auspicious jewel) show, although the result is the same—gold—there is a difference in speed. Fifth, determining the nature of the path, namely the two, means and liberation. As it is said in the Uttaratantra: "That which expresses the meaning to be expressed, that is said to be the expresser." Therefore, the explainer of the meaning to be expressed is the expresser. The explanation of the origin of the path—the continuum of letters—will be explained below, from which it can be understood more widely, so it will not be elaborated here. Sixth, it is necessary to go the path of liberation before the path of means. Because the proximate cause for entering the great bliss from the basis of the two contemplations is wavering and aspiration, which are universally present in the mind of the practitioner. Because it is impossible for the mind of means to arise from the beginning. Considering this, it is said in the Thugs Thig: "The wisdom of the path goes first, the means are then learned in order." Thus, here too, the order is explained and taught in that way. Most of the previous lamas taught the path of means first, because they considered it easier to teach due to the small number of meanings to be expressed, and it is not seen as contradictory. Second, the origin of the path—the continuum of letters. Thus, if what is to be expressed is not expressed by the language of the expresser, then it is impossible to express the meaning to be expressed. Therefore, if one wants to understand the meaning of the tantra, one must enter the continuum of sound. So, what is the way of expressing it? As it is said in this very text: "Letters rely on sound, the collection of names, and are well expressed by words." Therefore, from the collection of many letters that are the nature of vowels and consonants, names are formed, such as pillars and vases, which only show the nature of things. These names are collected together to form words, such as sandalwood pillars and golden vases, which show the differences in the meanings of things. These words are collected together to form verses, prose, chapters, and sections, and so on, which are continuously formed into books, thus forming the continuum of the sound of the expresser. So, how does it express the meaning to be expressed? The great translator Thumi said: "From letters come names, from names come words, words show all meanings." Thus, from the collection of words, for example, on the stable supported by sandalwood pillars, beautiful golden vases are placed. Thus, the meaning to be expressed is expressed.
