Secondly, establishing the sharpness of practice and the sharpness of self-origination. Firstly, as stated in the Lamrim: "In countless eons like dust motes of fields, those who are extremely trained and well-established, enter here without wisdom, therefore, the long is gradual and simultaneous." And so on, this is established by many common scriptural reasoning of both Sutra and Tantra. Secondly, if there is no self-origination sharpness, it will become a fault, so establish its existence. Refuting the assertion that this actual tantra, which explains the reasoning for establishing it, is not the object of self-origination sharpness. Firstly, some say: If one is sharp in faculties, then it is pervaded by sharpness of practice, but the basis of the sharpness of faculties by nature is not established. If so, then the eight consciousnesses of ordinary worldly beings should also not arise. Why is it that if one is sharp in faculties, then it is pervaded by sharpness of practice? Because the eight consciousnesses of ordinary worldly beings are not explained in the path of seeing section of the treasury, therefore, before that, there is no cultivation, as stated in the Lamrim: "That ground of the darkness of consciousness, abides sustained by its own nature cause, the eight ordinary minds abide at the end." And in the commentary on Rangjung Gyalpo: "By the reasoning of the nature of phenomena, the eight ordinary minds arise from the ground of darkness." Therefore, if it is asserted that the eight ordinary minds arise from the ground of darkness, then the view that there is no self-originated sharpness is destroyed. Furthermore, since if one is sharp in faculties, then it is pervaded by sharpness of practice, there should be no sharpness or dullness in those who have equal practice. If you admit it, it is obvious. If you say that the sharpness itself was practiced before or what, then you can also say that it was not practiced or what, it cannot be established by any reason, this is what the great Lama Desheg said. Also, it is unreasonable for the appearance of the Great and Small Vehicles, it is unreasonable for the size of intelligence to come to those who have equal practice, and if there is no size of intelligence, then the Great and Small Vehicles cannot exist, because the order of the vehicles is distinguished by the difference of intelligence. Thus, in the Gongdu it is said: "Because of the intelligence of the great and small order, the order of the vehicles is also the same." Secondly, among the three proofs of scripture, oral instruction, and reasoning, in terms of scripture, the Gongdu says: "These great beings who abide in the realm of Vajrasattva, because of the various natures of mind, there are those who are very deep, those who are not deep, those who are vast, those who are narrow, those who are sharp, those who are dull, those who are fast, those who are slow.

From the 'sTag las': "Is the teaching of secret mantras heard gradually or all at once?" And from the 'Kun byed rgyal po': "The faculties of sentient beings, gods and humans, are not the same. Some have decisive faculties from the beginning. Some have progressive faculties through training." And so on. As for the instructions, the 'Lam rim' says: "For the sake of the three accomplishments without training, the exalted teachings are swift, sharp, and vast, but the profound essence is for the individual with capacity." And the 'mDzod' also says: "Some are like that from the beginning, some are transformed through training." And so on. In terms of reasoning, there are three: refutation, establishment, and abandonment. First, Lha rje mdar nag says: "The great stream of consciousness of sentient beings, you have sharp faculties established in the base, because various imprints have been accumulated in the alaya." This is not reasonable, because establishing imprints in the alaya depends on the training of hearing and thinking through causes and conditions. Therefore, the vow of self-nature is broken. Second, gSang bdag sgro phug pa's words: "The great stream of consciousness of sentient beings, you have sharp and dull faculties established, because the nature of mind is diverse, like the sharpness and dullness of iron." This is a combination free from faults. Third, some say: "If sharpness and dullness are established in the base, then the base would be flawed with good and bad, so it is not reasonable." In response, rJe nye ston and zur 'khor say: "Does the essence of the base become flawed with good and bad, or does the reverse aspect become flawed with good and bad?" If the former, then because it is an examination of the mind in which sharpness and dullness enter, there is no pervasiveness. If the latter, then that is exactly what is desired, because from the good and bad of the reverse aspect, various samsara and nirvana arise. Lha rje gnubs gshen says: "The base does not become flawed with good and bad, because in ultimate truth, no sharp or dull faculties are established. In conventional truth, sharpness and dullness are not obstructed into various forms. Liberation comes from attachment to the distinctness of sharpness and dullness in the undifferentiated." Again, some say: "Does self-sharpness depend on the conditions of hearing and thinking, or not? If the former, then the vow of self-nature is broken. If the latter, then it would become liberated effortlessly." If so, then does the sharpness and dullness of iron that exists in the material depend on the blacksmith, or not? If it depends, then here too it depends on hearing and thinking. If you say: "Then iron is not sharp by nature, because it depends on hearing and thinking," then iron is not sharp by nature, because it depends on conditions.
