Because of clinging to dualistic opposition, it leads to nihilism. Here, appearance and emptiness are simultaneously established, so it does not fall into nihilism, therefore it surpasses in essence. As it is said: "Alas! Neither empty nor non-empty, the Middle Way has no object of focus." Secondly, the inseparability of causes is considered ultimate, established in the face of rational examination, so its characteristics can be grasped. Here, because it is beyond the realm of mental activity, the characteristics do not exist in one aspect, therefore it surpasses in characteristics. As it is said: "In the second convention, it transcends thought and expression." Thirdly, the two truths of cause have cut off the boundaries of existence and non-existence, because the appearance and emptiness of mantra are inseparable, therefore it is more excellent in nature. As the Lamrim says: "Nature is naturally inseparable." Incidentally, the refutation of disputes arising from the occasion: If it is said that in this way, the appearance of nature becomes three, because the situation is established in this way. If you say so, then the reason is not established. If you say because it is arranged there, then, in order to understand nature, although it is hypothetically arranged into three by consciousness, but if it does not change there, then what about it? It is not pervasive, so says Nyang's commentary. Also, some say that when appearances arise and cease, emptiness also arises and ceases, because the essence of appearance and emptiness are the same. In response, the wise one said: The reversal of appearances arises and ceases, but the essence does not arise or cease. If you say that arising and ceasing and not arising and ceasing are contradictory dharmas, then does the essence of appearance and emptiness become different? Just so, impermanent reversal and conditioned phenomena also become different in essence, because when impermanent reversal arises and ceases in an instant, the substance of conditioned phenomena, which is the same essence as it, does not arise or cease. For example, just as the consciousness of grasping a pot now, in the second instant, the substance continuum of the pot is not interrupted. Furthermore, can that which is inseparable and beyond the realm of experience be determined by hearing and thinking? If it can, then the statement of being beyond the realm of consciousness is violated; if it cannot, then the arguments determined in this way will become meaningless. Because the self-characteristic of realizing the reality ultimately liberates from the duality of the object of realization and the subject of realization, it is not so, because the self-characteristic of realization is untouched by any edge of consciousness. The labor of debate is meaningless. Even so, what can be realized by the consciousness of ordinary beings

If asked whether there is certainty, although there is no certainty of realizing the own-characteristic. However, by representing it with words that express profound meaning, for the meaning that is beyond the realm of experience, a certainty of realizing only the general meaning that is in accordance with it arises, therefore establishing it is not meaningless. For example, when measuring vast space with conceptual thought, although one establishes many elaborations such as edge, center, shape, color, one and many, etc., just as one cannot determine its own nature except for revealing other phenomena. Here too, although the inseparability of appearance and emptiness is described in detail separately, the ultimate conclusion of the meaning is the inexpressible meaning. Initially, it is only the general meaning, and ultimately, one directly realizes the own-characteristic as it is, so the seemingly contradictory phenomena are established by valid scriptures as not contradictory, etc. These cannot be established merely by the intellect of terminology, because no matter how one expresses the inexpressible meaning, one will ultimately not abandon the mind of grasping. Therefore, even omniscience will be impoverished by words. As it is said in the General Sutra: "Appearance and non-appearance, etc., all dualistic thoughts are extremes, all omniscient ones are not even in the middle." And in the Lamp of Correct View composed by the teacher आचार्य (Tibetan: སློབ་དཔོན།, Sanskrit Devanagari: आचार्य, Sanskrit Romanization: ācārya, Chinese literal meaning: teacher) Nyan Pal Yang: "Like space, in terminology, although it is spoken with names and sentences, it is without characteristics and free from elaboration, it transcends the realm of the mind of self-nature." And in his How to Meditate on the Definitive Meaning, he also says: "The Dharma as it is is extremely firm, Dharma does not enter into Dharma, no matter how profound the words are spoken, they will not be in accordance with the meaning." However, it is not that there is no method of realizing it with the wisdom of individual discrimination. In the Samadhiraja Sutra it says: "For the Dharmas without letters, whoever listens and teaches, by adding on to the unchanging, listens and receives." Therefore, establishing it as being beyond the realm of experience and then generating certainty is also not contradictory. Therefore, in the Root Tantra it says: "The continuum of the basis of the own-characteristic to be represented, is taught without addition or subtraction, the net of illusion that represents is like pointing with a finger at the moon rabbit." Therefore, it is also clearly stated that the continuum of self-nature can be represented by the continuum of sound.
