Son, fifth, naming based on the nature of the meaning, such as Mudra Samadhi; naming based on categories, such as the Six Modes of Grace and the Three Stages of Vimala; naming based on the main aspect of the meaning, such as the Great and Small Stages of the Path. It should be determined which one it is according to the specific situation. Fourth, for whom it is done should also be combined with the specific situation. Fifth, it should be understood that the content to be expressed is divided into the part summarized by the meaning and the part summarized by the expressive words. The oral instructions on how to explain have been completed. Third, regarding how to explain, it includes the characteristics of the teacher and the student, how to teach and listen, and the result of teaching and listening in this way. First, it includes the characteristics of the teacher who teaches and the characteristics of the student who is the object of the teaching. First is the characteristic of the teacher, who has eight qualities: being proficient in the meaning of the three stages of generation, completion, and ultimate, therefore possessing the three secret treasuries; having the ability to obtain profound benefits, therefore being as complete as a river; not using secret mantras indiscriminately, therefore being able to guard secrets, or having guardianship, not abandoning those who are qualified; being proficient in the ten aspects of the meaning of the tantras, therefore being able to untie the knot of the student's knowledge; not being confused about the order of mandalas and initiations, and the conclusion of peaceful, increasing, and other activities; teaching the oral instructions of the lineage, or having experience, therefore obtaining the confidence of the oral instructions. Counting the three treasuries separately, there are eight in total. That is, the treasury of view, Ati (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning), the treasury of meditation, Anu (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning), and the treasury of action, Maha Yoga (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning). As it is said in the Lamrim: "The teacher has the treasury and the river is full, has the guardianship and is proficient in tantra and karma, the oral instruction holds warmth and holds eight qualities." Then, what is meant by "relying on the noble lama" here? Because he is the one who indicates the tantra as the meaning to be interpreted, that is, the very nature of mind, the essence of the secret nature, and the tantra as the words to be interpreted, that is, the meaning of the words including the root, commentary, and oral instructions, that is why it is said so. Although many characteristics of the teacher are mentioned in the tantras, they are temporarily summarized in these eight. Even so, in the "True Acceptance," it says: "In the degenerate age, the teacher's faults and virtues are mixed due to power, there is no one who is without sin in any way, for those whose virtues are superior, the disciples should examine well and rely on them."

If a guru with all the qualities cannot be found, then one should rely on a guru with more qualities. However, the indispensable qualities are: having received empowerment and abiding by the vows, not being ignorant of the tantras and mandala activities that are being taught, and being able to guide disciples. Furthermore, when a disciple relies on a guru, there are three stages: first, examine with three methods; in the middle, seek with three methods; and finally, rely on with three methods. First, examine by asking others from afar; examine yourself from nearby; examine by relying on the desire deity and divination. Second, if after examining in this way, you know it is good, then you should seek without regard to distance, physical fatigue, or financial expense. Third, the guru found after seeking in this way should be relied upon inseparably like life-saving medicine; rely on him without partiality or recklessness, like his heart; rely on him without measuring the extent of reverence and service, like a wish-fulfilling jewel. In short, without relying on a virtuous guru with favorable conditions, there is no way to attain liberation. Therefore, the guru should be regarded and revered as superior to all Buddhas. As it is said in the Gongdü: "The Buddhas of hundreds of thousands of kalpas, know that the guru is especially superior." And so on, it is widely taught in all sutras and tantras. Second, generally speaking, the classification of five types of individuals has already been discussed earlier. However, if we speak slightly according to what appears in this teaching tradition, it is to be free from the four faults of a vessel and to possess five qualities. The four faults are: the fault of a vessel for hearing is like a vessel turned upside down; the fault of a vessel for thinking is like a vessel with a broken bottom and a damaged side; the fault of a vessel for meditating is like a poisonous vessel. As it is said in the Lamrim: "Essence leaks and spills, is unpleasant and untamed." The five qualities are: being as long as the flow of the Ganges River, being as meticulous as a disciplined practitioner, being as good as gold in thought, being as stable as Mount Meru, and being generous in giving away body and possessions for the sake of the Dharma. Or, in the Commentary Sparkhab, it says: "Wisdom, compassion, and tolerance are possessing a vessel." Therefore, adding wisdom to understand the meaning, compassion to be interested in benefiting others, and tolerance to be able to uphold the teachings, these three can also be divided into eight qualities.
