Calm abiding is the calm abiding that generates the samadhi of pacifying grasping and conceptualization. Insight is: viewing appearances as the eight similes of illusion, decisively determining all coarse and subtle objects of grasping as emptiness, contemplating the emptiness of the nature of phenomena, and equally abiding in the meaning of the freedom from extremes, the Middle Way. These are the practice of meditating through the union of calm abiding and insight. As it is also said in the "Entering the Bodhisattva's Way of Life": "With the insight that is fully endowed with calm abiding, it should be known that one can destroy all afflictions." The fifth is conduct, which is, in the post-meditation period, benefiting sentient beings through the attitude of cherishing others more than oneself. The nature of this conduct is to practice the six or ten perfections as if they were mere illusions. The six perfections are generosity, etc., and the ten perfections are the addition of four: skillful means, power, aspiration, and wisdom, which are included within the Perfection of Wisdom. The sixth is the result, which is to gradually traverse the ten grounds and five paths, and on the eleventh ground, the Ground of Universal Light, of the path of no more learning, to be liberated in the Dharmakaya for one's own benefit, and for the benefit of others, to rely on the two form bodies and benefit sentient beings until samsara is emptied. These are also mentioned in the extensive commentary: "By realizing the two selflessnesses, perfecting the perfections, the yogi who gradually traverses the ten grounds, the path of attaining the state of Buddhahood, will be obtained through the accomplishment of the two truths." The second is the result, the Vajrayana, how it surpasses the causal vehicle, explaining the superior vehicle itself, and explaining the difference in the tantras, which are the expressers that show these as the expressed. The first is that the Paramitayana takes the cause as the path, while here it is surpassed by taking the result as the path. To this, the followers of the characteristic vehicle say: You secret mantra practitioners, when you take the result as the path, do you take the matured as the path, or the unmatured? If it is the former, then it will become endless, because even after it has matured, it is still taken as the path. The thesis is accepted. The pervasion is established by valid cognition, just as last year's fruit becomes this year's seed. If you accept this, then the secret mantra itself will become a long path. If it is the latter, then it will not become taking the result as the path, because it is unmatured. If you accept this, then you contradict your own words, because whatever is unmatured is pervaded by not being the ultimate result, like a green sprout. The answer is: It is its reason.

Since the nature of what is to be attained is inherently present, it is only not realized in terms of the way of realization. Therefore, the method of realizing it is called the path. As it is said in the Lamrim: "Thus, wisdom abides in itself, the path and the fruit are all its nature, the connection is pure, the great means, the manifestation only arises from itself." Thus, if the self-abiding fruit is manifested by the path, is it said that the previous fruit has arisen or not? In terms of nature, it cannot be said to have arisen, just as when a prince who has wandered among the people is recognized as a prince, the nature of his lineage does not become better. However, in terms of manifestation, it can be said to have arisen, just as when he is determined to be a prince, he can rule over the people. Therefore, it should be understood in this way. As it is said in Heruka Galpo: "The characteristic is the vehicle of cause, knowing the mind itself as the cause of the Buddha, the fruit is the vehicle of mantra, meditating on the mind itself as the Buddha nature, whatever is the cause and the fruit, the aspect should also be well understood." Therefore, in the characteristic vehicle, merely knowing that the mind itself is the cause of Buddhahood, believing that Buddhahood is attained by increasing through the accumulation of the two accumulations, and taking the cause of Nirvana, which is the pure Dharma, as the path, it is called the vehicle of cause, because it acknowledges that cause and effect have a sequence. The mantra vehicle considers the mind itself as the nature of the fruit, as having the nature of body and wisdom, and since it is inherently present in oneself from the beginning, the object to be attained is present in oneself from now on, which is the basis. Through the action of knowing and entering, eliminating the temporary and sudden defilements, thereby recognizing it, from this point of view it is the path. The basis itself manifests, from this point of view it is the fruit. Therefore, in reality, cause and effect are not distinct in sequence, so it is called the fruit vehicle and the Vajra vehicle. As it is said in this itself: "From whatever time and direction, the perfect Buddha will not be attained, the mind itself is the perfect Buddha, do not seek the Buddha elsewhere." It is also said: "This is the great secret determination, the fruit becomes the path." It is also said: "The wonderful and miraculous Dharma, does not come from elsewhere, the wisdom based on means, arises in such a state." And as it is said in the Extensive: "Cause and effect are not originally sequential, the fruit becomes the path."
