Because it is realized that the assumed "self" is non-existent, it transcends the Vaibhashika, because it is actually impossible to observe, so it is like not admitting atoms. In short, if the Dharma-self and the grasped-grasper are regarded as real, and if one clings to acceptance and rejection regarding the cause and effect of samsara and nirvana, the Four Noble Truths, then that is the Shravaka Vehicle. As the Lamrim says: "Those who have not realized the absence of two, see everything as real in the Four Noble Truths, if they practice acceptance and non-acceptance, this is the ground of the Shravakas." So it is said. Third, discipline is: It is necessary to study to be in accordance with any of the eight types of Pratimoksha vows, especially in accordance with the Buddha. Therefore, one should rely on the excellent Bhikshu vows. As the Abhidharmakosha says: "Pratimoksha is called eight, its essence is actually four kinds, because of the difference in names it is said to be eight, therefore these are not contradictory. What should be abandoned are five, eight, and ten, and those who can abandon everything, namely Upasaka, Upavasatha, Shramanera, and Bhikshu are the four kinds." So it is said. Fourth, meditation is: As it says in that text: "Those who abide in discipline, who are learned and thoughtful, should diligently engage in meditation." Therefore, relying on the basis of pure discipline, one should properly hear the Tripitaka of the Shravaka Vehicle from a virtuous friend, contemplate what has been heard, and meditate on what has been contemplated. First, in order to counteract attachment, one should meditate on ugliness, etc., and after making the mind workable through Shamatha, Vipassana is to meditate on the sixteen truths by dividing each of the Four Noble Truths into four. From this basis, by seeing the afflictions of the three realms, one abandons them, etc., and abandons them in the order of the sixteen wisdoms. Among these, the sixteen truths are: impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness are the four aspects of the Truth of Suffering. Cause, origin, arising, and condition are the four aspects of the Truth of Origin. Cessation, peace, excellence, and liberation are the four aspects of the Truth of Cessation. Path, knowledge, practice, and deliverance are the four aspects of the Truth of the Path, making a total of sixteen. The sixteen wisdoms are: for each of the Four Noble Truths, there are two: Dharma-knowledge and Dharma-acceptance, and two: subsequent-knowledge and subsequent-acceptance, making a total of sixteen. Fifth, conduct is: abiding in the twelve qualities that have been cultivated, mainly practicing for one's own benefit. As Yuthang says: "Conduct is also solely for one's own benefit." So it is said. Sixth, the result is: the result of stream-enterer and
