And, entrusted to future individuals with Dharma eyes, as well as to the Matrikas and Dakinis. Second, the differentiation of the categories of words is: As stated in the 'Later Tantra': "That which explains the object to be expressed, that is said to be the expresser." Therefore, that which explains the object to be expressed is the expresser, the sound tantra, or whatever is known as the letter tantra. It also possesses three aspects: essence, collection, and completeness. Like when any sound is applied to any Dharma, and it is expressed by considering it to be that very thing, that is 'name'. The gathering of many 'names' is the 'collection of names'. And the 'name' itself, not being included in a general category, but being divided into separate parts through distinctions, thereby revealing the difference between that Dharma and its meaning, that is 'word'. The 'letters' that make those 'names' and 'words' clear are called 'alphabets'. Therefore, letters gather to form 'names', and names gather to form words. They gather to form verses, prose, and chapters, etc., sequentially continuing until they form volumes, thereby constituting the collection of scriptures, i.e., the letter tantra, or the expresser, the sound tantra, capable of representing the object to be expressed. As it is said: "Letters rely on the collection of names expressed by sound, and words perfectly express the meaning." Upon analyzing this, from the manifestation of the wisdom of the Teacher, the meaning of the tantra naturally appears in the minds of the actual retinue, or similarly, in the minds of future disciples, the three gatherings of name, word, and letter, the tantric scriptures, appear in the form of sound in general, i.e., the tantra appearing as sound. In accordance with this, due to the desire to express sound, combined with place and action, etc., it is spoken in the mouth, which is the tantra known as sound. And the support for expressing this, the external image of letters recorded on volumes, is the tantric scripture transformed into symbols. From the perspective of the expresser, there are only these. Why is it called 'sound tantra'? Because the object to be expressed appears as the sound of the expresser, and through the meaning expressed by sound, it is 'sound'. Because the collection of scriptures such as verses is continuous, or because the five, such as the beginning, are interconnected in the manner of cause, condition, and result, it is 'tantra'. Or, because the object to be expressed has obtained the name 'tantra', the expresser is also called 'tantra'. If classified, there are two types: root tantra and explanatory tantra, or only the root tantra.

Furthermore, the collection of words is divided into twenty-two chapters. Among them, the first chapter, the upper part of the third chapter, and the fifteenth chapter discuss the topic of causes; the second chapter discusses the arising of conditions. From the lower part of the third chapter up to the twenty-first chapter, the result, which is the complete understanding of the tantric meaning, is discussed. And to universally encompass these, the necessary connection of the tantra is discussed, and the last chapter teaches the instructions. Regarding the tantric meaning that needs to be fully understood, there are the ten entities of the tantra, and how each chapter teaches the peaceful and wrathful, common and uncommon dharmas, etc. If one wishes to elaborate, it can be fully explained. Thirdly, for those with inferior faculties, it is explained by elaborating on each word and phrase, including the pointing out of the tantra's name and the actual meaning of the tantra that corresponds to that name. First, the pointing out of the name: In Tibetan, it is: "གསང་བའི་སྙིང་པོ་དེ་ཁོ་ན་ཉིད་ངེས་པའོ། །" (pronounced: Sangwé Nyingpo Dekhonanyi Ngépa'o), which means "The Secret Essence Definite." There are three aspects to this: the necessity mentioned at the beginning, the explanation of the meaning of the name, and the refutation of arguments. The first point is: Just as one understands the object of a vase from the name "vase," those with superior faculties understand the meaning of the tantra based on the name, those with intermediate faculties understand only the categories of meaning, and even those with inferior faculties have the necessity of easily finding the book, like a label on a medicine container. The second point is: In Vimalamitra's "Small Commentary," it says: "Self-nature is called secret, greatness is the meaning of essence, suchness is its characteristic, definiteness is the briefly stated meaning." Through these four names, the self-nature, greatness, characteristic, and definite meaning of the tantra are revealed. Among them, the meaning of secret is: The reality of suchness is primordially pure by its very nature, and therefore exists in the equality of samsara and nirvana, which is the inconceivable secret of the mind of all Buddhas. It is profound and difficult to fathom, therefore it is very difficult to understand, hence it is secret. As for how it is secret, Sgeg pa rdo rje divides it into three, including self-nature, etc., while Vimalamitra adds the secret of non-disclosure, dividing it into four. However, the secret of self-nature is included in concealment, and the secret of non-disclosure is also included in hiding, so here it is divided into two, hiding and concealing, by the distinction of difficult to understand and impossible to understand. It is precisely here that it says: "From within, revealing the meaning of hiding and concealing." The secret of hiding is not understanding.
