It is said: O Lord of Lanka, it is like this: Immeasurable in memory, in the past, there appeared a Buddha named Akshobhya, in a kalpa called All Joy, in a pure land called Manifest Joy, for the teachings that appeared, there was an ordained monk named Difficult-to-Conquer Youth, who, as it is, turned the great wheel of Dharma, dwelling in yoga that is uncreated and uncorrupted from all to all. There appeared a capable noble being who saw all sentient beings as sons of the Buddhas and was solely diligent in urging them on. At that time, at that time, samsara is without beginning or end, and the karma of births without beginning or end, and the speech of immeasurable lives cannot be exhausted. If one grasps a part of a birth with one stage of karma, it is like this: Nearby there was a householder named Ke'u Kaya, who had a son named Black Liberation, and that son had a servant named Danba. At that time, at that time, some people taught the monk Difficult-to-Conquer Youth the path of yoga, and all dwelt on the path of yoga and practiced yoga. At that time, at that time, Black Liberation thought like this: Having heard that this monk Difficult-to-Conquer Youth shows everything as it is, will there appear dharmas with paths like everything is practiced with joy? When asked of anyone, everyone said that it would appear that way. Then, together with the servant, he entered the important monk's place, went to the residence, and there, with good intention, requested: Great monk, having heard that you are skilled in showing the path as everything is practiced, is that really so? Having requested thus, he said: Son of good family, it is possible that such things will appear. Having said this, Liberation, together with the servant, rejoiced and rejoiced, and requested: Please accept me and my servant as your command. I also receive from you the uninterrupted path of everything, wanting to dwell in yoga, please definitely accept me as the supreme one. Having requested thus, that monk said: Yes, very good! Let it be done that way! Having given his approval, if Black Liberation goes forth, he is accepted as the supreme one, what about Danba?

Having seized the opportunity, he made the monk Tharpa his servant. Then, the monk Tharpa asked: Great monk, what is the ultimate noble path of all? He replied: If you do not modify what is as it is, even if you use things placed on a bow, it is like a cloud in the sky. This is the noble path of yoga. After saying this, Tharpa and his servant were very happy and said: Emaho, how skillful! It is certain! It is so! Entrusted to this! I will completely abide in it in all ways, after praying like this, because he only practiced as the sound was, the monk Tharpa did not gain the certainty of wisdom. Only clinging to the sound, he only practiced with four things, and therefore put his body in sacred attire, but his mind entered the path of evil destinies. The servant Danbag, however, gained the certainty of the meaning of the sound basis, and was connected to the supreme wisdom. Only clinging to the meaning, he continued to practice as it was, and therefore, as a yogi, put his body in base attire, but his mind entered the path of supreme certainty. Then, Tharpa disagreed with the servant, saying: Although we two heard the same teaching from the same master, why do we have such different views? Danbag replied: What I am now certain of, I have not heard anything else besides this. Tharpa said: I am the same, the certainty I have gained, I have not heard anything else besides this practice. Therefore, a great dispute arose between them. Because of the disagreement in views, they severed relations with the servant, vowed never to meet again, and the servant left for a long time. Then, the monk Tharpa gave rise to the mountain of pride and wrong views, and asked the master about the certainty each had gained. The monk Tukka Jhönnu practiced in a genuine way without modification or contamination, without hypocrisy, because he spoke with natural frankness, so he taught to be certain like Danbag. Tharpa was therefore completely confused and said: If the master is similar, then what about us two? He considered it unequal, because I was degraded and refuted by this person, so he also made this master unable to stand here, and vowed: I will make these people my retinue. He gave rise to great pride, and also made the master leave for a long time, completely abandoning him. Then, Tharpa began to enter the vast and boundless gate of the teachings of the Thus-Gone One.
