The determination of the Suchness of the Great Valiant One should be made to the non-inverted Suchness itself. Said: Secret Lord, from where does the essence of secret mantra, Vajrasattva, come? Where does it reside? Where does it appear? How does it come about? Having asked thus, the Lord of Secrets said: O Lord of Lanka, the essence of secret mantra, Vajrasattva, comes from the realm of both samsara and nirvana. It resides in the hearts of all Buddhas and the minds of all sentient beings. It appears in limitless realms. It arises spontaneously in the primordially pure and pure lineage. Again, the Lord of Lanka asked: Secret Lord, where should the determination of Vajrasattva itself be placed? The Lord of Secrets said: Lord of Lanka, Vajrasattva is liberated from the essence of one and different, the dharmata of all dharmas is unmade and undefiled, the essence is primordially abiding in enlightenment, that is called the Primordially Such Vajrasattva. The dharmata of the minds of all sentient beings, the state in which it is seen, is called the Pure Lineage Vajrasattva. Likewise, all Buddhas also appear as Primordially Such and Pure Lineage Buddhas. Therefore, the determination of Vajrasattva should be placed in the Suchness of the Primordially Such of all. Again, the Lord of Lanka asked: Secret Lord, what is the dharmata of the minds of all sentient beings? Where is it seen, and what is it to see it? Having asked thus, the Lord of Secrets said: Lord of Lanka, seeing the suchness of all sentient beings is seeing. The suchness of all sentient beings is unsurpassed enlightenment. In that, not even a particle of dharma is perceived. That is the nature of space; in that, there is neither one who becomes enlightened nor the act of becoming enlightened. In that, there is neither sentient being nor the establishment as mind. There is neither dharma nor the establishment as dharma. Why is that? All dharmas are the nature of enlightenment, and enlightenment is the nature of space, and space is devoid of all characteristics. Therefore, enlightenment should be sought from the mind. That mind is naturally completely pure, so it is neither inside nor outside.

Neither is perceived in either. That mind is not seen even by the Buddhas. It is not seen, it will not be seen. How is it not seen? It is not seen as color. It is not seen as shape. It is not seen as darkness. It is not seen as light. It is not seen as male or female. It is not seen as neuter. It is not seen as the nature of the three realms. It is not seen as the mind of gods. It is not seen as the mind of nagas. Likewise, it is not seen as the mind of yakshas, the mind of gandharvas, the mind of asuras, the mind of garudas, the mind of kinnaras, the mind of mahoragas, the mind of humans and non-humans, the mind of animals, the mind of pretas, the mind of hell-beings, and so forth, the minds of beings of different destinies. It is free from all conceptions and discriminations. Why is that? The nature of the mind is the self-arisen wisdom of Vajrasattva, and that wisdom is the nature of space, therefore it is without nature. Again, the Lord of Lanka asked: O Lord of Secrets, why is the mind of sentient beings the self-arisen wisdom of Vajrasattva? The Lord of Secrets replied: O Lord of Lanka, the suchness of sentient beings and the suchness of Vajrasattva are non-dual and cannot be made dual. How is that? Like this: Whatever is the suchness of the mind of attachment is the suchness of Vajrasattva. The suchness of Vajrasattva is thusness. Whatever is the suchness of the mind without attachment is the suchness of Vajrasattva. The suchness of Vajrasattva is thusness. Whatever is the thusness of the mind of hatred is the suchness of Vajrasattva. The suchness of Vajrasattva is thusness. Whatever is the suchness of the mind of loving-kindness is the suchness of Vajrasattva. The suchness of Vajrasattva is thusness. Whatever is the suchness of the mind of ignorance is the suchness of Vajrasattva. The suchness of Vajrasattva is thusness. Whatever is the suchness of great wisdom is the suchness of Vajrasattva. The suchness of Vajrasattva is thusness. Whatever
