Thus knowing, it arises. What desire arises in sequence with differences? Here, it is only ignorance. From that self-born nature, there is definite liberation. In the absence of a conceptualized object, the great equanimity yogi, as it is, abides as it is. The body is solitary, the mind is tamed, entering the wrong path. In that very great liberation of all, there is no bondage or liberation, it is definite. Here, asceticism is bound by realization. Liberated from the very nature of great liberation, in the very nature of being unmade from the beginning, wherever one abides, that itself is that nature. Where is there a wrong path in that? The very obscuration of the wrong path is also that nature. After such deliberation, the bodhisattvas of inferior bodies, such as the Lord of Lanka, were completely liberated from whatever bondage, and the hesitation of hope and effort was cut off. The chapter of the Great Sutra of the Collection of the Intentions of All Buddhas, which shows the mirror of all dharmas, the fifty-fourth, is complete. Then, the Lord of Lanka, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, completely asked the Lord of Secrets what the root was. O Lord of Secrets, what is said to be the root of all dharmas? How can it be fully known? After asking this, the Lord of Secrets said: O Lord of Lanka, this noble question that you have asked is good! Very, very good! What is called the root of all dharmas refers to the root, the mind of enlightenment. It should be fully known in this way: it should be known as the dharma nature of the minds of all Buddhas and the dharma nature of the minds of all sentient beings. It appears as both darkness and light. O Lord of Lanka, in this way, the Bhagavan, the Lord of the Supreme Secret, in the secret place called Lotus, in the womb of the crown-turning king, in the palace of the Supreme Secret, at the moment when he was dwelling, at that time, countless noble beings, in order to cut off the doubts of that very secret and supreme truth, and to completely inquire, and the gathering of inquiries, and after the doubts were cut off, they fell back again, and we, the retinue, gathered there, and addressed the Bhagavan in this way: O Bhagavan, what we call the essence of enlightenment, the root of all dharmas, we have not seen or perceived. We have not found it correctly, and we have not obtained certainty. Please speak.

If it does not pervade, then where is this? Where to search? What is it? What to do? Where is it lost? Please, Blessed One, reveal the language of this very moment. Please reveal the Sugata. After asking this, the Blessed One said this: Great Bodhisattva, the heart of enlightenment, called the root of all dharmas, is not seen by obscuration, not seen by absence, not found by depth, not known by difficulty, not reached by speed, not pervaded by vastness. This exists in the realm of darkness. Search in the three cities. This is the limb, the sutra, and the root. The essence should be regarded as Suchness. Lost in the realm of darkness. Great Bodhisattva, therefore, in order to dispel this darkness, one should be skilled in its nature. Similarly, essence, characteristics, limbs, duration of existence, karma, types of darkness, metaphors, etc., and methods of dispelling should all be mastered. One should be diligent in this. One should understand those who are in the realm of darkness. After saying this, I asked this: Blessed One, from where does this darkness come? What is the nature of this darkness? What is the essence of this darkness? What is the characteristic of this darkness? What is the limb of this darkness? What is the root of this darkness? How long does this darkness last? What does this darkness obscure? What is the difference of this darkness? What is this darkness similar to? Where does this darkness condense? What dispels this darkness? Why is it called darkness? Why does this condense? Where does the net gather? Please explain these. Please, Sugata, explain these. After asking this, the Blessed One said: Great Bodhisattva, the root of all dharmas contained by darkness and light should be known to be gathered without foundation and root. Therefore, the sutra that teaches is like this: The Buddha is the source of enlightenment. Generating and the essence is that itself. Like a lotus blooming revealing the heart. The root exists in the mud of samsara. The source of all roots. The root of no root is. The root of all dharmas. The three realms are gathered in this. This dharma is profound and difficult to see. Also, it is impossible to realize. Abiding in the ultimate ground. Even the person has not seen. The nature of emptiness due to absence.
