Like excellent silk, without language, not even one of the body's great seals is accomplished, yet one meditates on many inconceivable things; without letters, the 'I', without a name, the capable one of humans, Shakyamuni, without language, not even one of the body's great seals is accomplished, yet one meditates on many inconceivable things; without letters, the 'Om' (Tibetan: ཨཱིཾ, Devanagari: ओँ, Romanized Sanskrit: oṃ, Literal meaning: Om), without a name, the capable one of animals, Lion Steadfast, without language, not even one of the body's great seals is accomplished, yet one meditates on many inconceivable things; without letters, the 'U', without a name, the capable one of pretas, Mouth Ablaze, without language, not even one of the body's great seals is accomplished, yet one meditates on many inconceivable things; without letters, the 'U', without a name, the capable one of hell beings, Dharma King, without language, not even one of the body's great seals is accomplished, yet one meditates on many inconceivable things. From the King of Tantras, the Supreme Tantra of Samadhi. This is the second chapter, "The Chapter on Generating the Mandala." Then, the mind-maker, Samantabhadra, explains the faults of meditation: First, in the samadhi of Suchness, if one meditates on complete emptiness as one's own nature, one will fall into the nihilistic extreme of annihilation. If one meditates on something unyielding as one's own nature, it will become the greatest means of ignorance. If one does not conceptualize anything, meditating on it as one's own nature, one will fall into an extreme. If one does not abide in anything, meditating on it as one's own nature, one will be separated from the path of wisdom. In the samadhi of universal appearance, if one meditates on compassion as one's own nature, one will not understand the meaning of equality. If one meditates on the mandala of the moon as one's own nature, there will be a continuation of birth and death. In the samadhi of the cause, if one meditates on letters as one's own nature, one will never be separated from samsara. If one meditates on Hum (Tibetan: ཧཱུཾ, Devanagari: हुं, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, Literal meaning: Hum) as one's own nature, the grossness of the form aggregate will not be destroyed, and one will be born as a sandalwood tree. If one meditates on A (Tibetan: ཨ, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal meaning: A) as one's own nature, due to attachment to things, one will be born as a man-made material stupa in a temple. If one meditates on the five elements as one's own nature, the enemy of the aggregates will arise. If one meditates on space as one's own nature, one will not be able to eliminate the extreme of emptiness, either affirming or negating. If one meditates on wind as one's own nature, one will fall into decay due to karma. If one meditates on water as one's own nature, one will be stained with the moisture of afflictions.

They will not be separated! If you meditate on earth as your own nature, there will be no time to transcend samsara. If you meditate on fire as your own nature, there will be no place to escape from afflictions. If you meditate on Mount Meru as your own nature, you will fall into the eternal views of the tirthikas. If you meditate on a celestial palace as your own nature, you will create the basis for afflictions. If you meditate on the tarana of a makara, you will not know how to separate from clinging and attachment. If you meditate on a pearl's sharbu, the doors of the senses will be blocked. If you meditate on a string of precious jewels, your mind will be tormented by desire. If you meditate on ornaments as your own nature, arrogance will fall into the abyss of a horse. If you meditate on a sharbu as your own nature, conceptualization of signs will arise. If you meditate on a net of gold and jewels as your own nature, you will be bound by the maras. If you meditate on a golden bell as your own nature, you will not hear the sound of the unborn Dharma. If you meditate on outer and inner objects as your own nature, you will not realize the ground of equality of Dharma-nature. If you meditate on all the expanse of the sun and moon as your own nature, you will circle the four continents of Jambudvipa. If you meditate on a wheel as your own nature, it will be like the wheel of a chariot. If you meditate on parapets and corridors as your own nature, you will cling to the decay of samsara. If you meditate on a seat and throne as your own nature,
