于虚空中游荡，或于牧场寺院游荡，有些则对他众作损害，伺机而动，食供物、寻香，以及具神通之魔类，有难忍之痛苦与怖畏。其生处多为化生，寿命以年、月、日计，可活五百岁，最长可活一劫。愚痴行不善之十业，尤以邪淫为甚，因妄语、毁戒之故，畜生种类不可计数，散布各处之龙族与非天族，形体不定，种类繁多，住于地、水、火、风、空，草木、不净物、臭气中，于动物身中及黑暗处游荡，食物为理智、悦意心，以各种食物维生。寿命不定，短则一刹那，长则可至一劫。散布各处之旁生，其四种因缘为：愚痴、舍受、不善，以及行善之威力。以不知、黑暗之禅定，生为鸟类、象、地神等，为天人种类的畜生。以微小之善根及其他因缘，转生为人间之畜生。以愚痴、杀生、偷盗、妄语，成为居于地狱之畜生。彼等为无心之化生，以及有心之愚昧众生。多半居于洲际之黑暗处，以及地下、水中、海中。有多足、无足、二足，以及单足、四足、无形者。痛苦无依怙，仇敌众多，被役使、杀害，沦为奴隶。母食子肉、自食己肉，互相残杀吞噬，役使、杀戮、殴打等，虽亲眼所见亦不解其意，愚笨且被愚痴之黑暗所蒙蔽。鸟类、野兽、野猪、大象等，为了肉、骨、皮、毛，所受之痛苦难以想象。鱼类、鳄鱼、毒蛇等，自己吃他众，他众吃自己，众多聚集而食一，一亦可为众多之死敌。乌鸦、猫头鹰、猫、狗，由嗔恨而生之食肉众。狐狸、猴子、鸟、鼠、昆虫，因贪欲、悭吝、渴爱而痛苦。鱼、蝴蝶、蜜蜂、鸟类，视欲妙之痛苦为友伴。马、牛、猪、羊之种类，虫类、胎生皆愚痴。野兽、地神惊慌恐惧，自显为敌。

There are many-legged, legless, two-legged, as well as one-legged, four-legged, and formless ones. Suffering is helpless, enemies are many, exploited, killed, and enslaved. Mothers eat their children's flesh, and they eat their own flesh, killing and devouring each other, exploiting, killing, and beating, etc., even though they see it with their own eyes, they do not understand its meaning, they are foolish and blinded by the darkness of ignorance.
