The vast realm shows two aspects of compassion. The essence of vidyā mantras is wisdom and innate knowledge. The essence of dhāraṇī mantras is wisdom and samādhi. The definition of the three mantras is that they are spoken to protect wisdom. The activities of the three mantras are to eliminate the habitual tendencies of the ground, eliminate ignorance and wrong views, and eliminate sudden habitual tendencies. Thus it is said. The Teacher taught: The essence of Mahāmudrā is the unchanging nature. The definition of Mahāmudrā is that it is called Mahāmudrā because it does not transgress. There are divisions and collections. There are four mudrās and five roots. Here, four are shown in summary: Dharmatā is inseparable from the Dharmakāya, which is said to be Mahāmudrā. Self-awareness and innate wisdom arise from the realm. Because the realm itself possesses awareness, the realm and innate wisdom are inseparable, which is said to be the Samaya Mudrā. Uninterrupted self-arising innate wisdom, clarity is the Dharma Mudrā. Because the two bodies of great compassion are uninterrupted, holding the meaning of non-conceptual great compassion, I have shown it as the Karma Mudrā. The example of the mudrā is like the sky, like a king sealing with a mudrā, one cannot go beyond it. Secret mantras are not wisdom uninterrupted, mudrās are not great compassion uninterrupted. Thus it is said. From the Great Tantra of Freedom from Elaborations, the Third Chapter: Showing Mantras and Mudrās. Then, again, the Lord of Secrets asked: How does one approach and accomplish? The Teacher said: Vajra-holder, listen well. That view, self-aware innate wisdom, is determined by four recognitions. Experience the nature of self-awareness. This is shown as the meaning of approaching. Dwelling on the path is approaching. When the path is liberated, it is accomplishment. When the fruit of the path is perfected, it becomes great accomplishment. Secret mantras are not recited, but abide in meaning. Mudrās are not practiced, not generated, but spontaneously perfected. Thus it is said. From the Great Tantra of Freedom from Elaborations, the Fourth Chapter: Showing the Two Aspects of Approaching and Accomplishment. Then, again, the Lord of Secrets asked: Alas, alas, Bhagavan Vajradhara, please speak about the great teachings spoken from your mouth, and the methods of explaining them. Thus he asked. The Teacher

Thus he spoke. Vajra Holder, listen well! I have explained the greatness of all lineages. From the mouth of the Teacher, without relying on other lineages, the greatness of believing in the lineage, and the Teacher's mind is extremely pure, initially without cause, intermediately without conditions, and ultimately unchanging. Therefore, it is great because of the unchanging lineage of space, and because faults are exhausted, one does not speak false words, so it is the truth spoken from the mouth of the non-false. The Teacher is the nature of the wise, and the words and sentences are skillfully arranged in meaning. Because it does not deviate from suchness, it is the greatness of the credible lineage. Among all my retinues, for the sake of the most excellent meaning of Joyful Vajra, the words spoken from the mouth of the Teacher, written without error, on a precious golden scroll, with molten lapis lazuli, written well with one's own diligence, so that there are no additions or omissions in the words, this is the greatness of the lineage. The three stages of generation and completion, the intention without gathering or separation, like the appearance of leaves, flowers, and fruits, shown in a non-different way, are in accordance with all secret mantras, and do not contradict the common lineage of secret mantras. Because the teachings of all secret mantras are gathered together, it is the credible greatness of the lineage. Thus he spoke. In the Great Tantra of Freedom from Elaborations and Clarity of Meaning, the chapter on explaining the five greatnesses of the lineage is the ninety-fifth chapter. Then, again, the Lord of Secrets asked: Emaho! Emaho! Bhagavan Vajra Holder, please explain the meaning of the lineage! Thus he asked. The Teacher spoke thus: Vajra Holder, listen well! The nature, definition, classification, common examples, etc. of the lineage will be explained. Son of lineage! The nature of the lineage should be shown through the door of classification. The nature of the lineage of meaning is called the lineage of unchanging mind, which is awareness itself. The nature of the lineage of words is the words spoken from the mouth of the Teacher, without addition, subtraction, or fabrication. There are two lineages of words: those transmitted through the ear, and those revealed. There are two of these: those of definitive meaning and those of provisional meaning. The definition of lineage is that it is called lineage because it expresses the meaning of words. It is called lineage because it is to be believed. It is called lineage because it is grasped. It is lineage because it is easily understood. It is also lineage because it is easily unfolded. It is also lineage because it can be connected with everything. The example is like the command spoken by a king.
