Settle the doubts of tranquility! Power appears as light. Settle the doubts of pure awareness! Through the arising of various clarities. Settle the doubts of non-conceptual arrogance! Because there is no clinging to anything. Free from unaware mental activity. Thus it is said. From the Tantra of the Great Clarity of Meaning Beyond Elaborations, the eighty-eighth chapter, Eliminating Doubts and Obstacles. Then, the Lord of Secrets again asked: "O, O, Blessed Vajradhara! How is the fruit of this?" Thus he asked. The Teacher replied: "Vajradhara, well listen! The fruit is the manifestation of the view. The explanation of its state is: The nature of reality is clear without inner or outer. Awareness pervades without inner or outer. The non-dual Dharmakaya is the Vajra body, Abiding in a self-luminous, non-grasping state. From this, knowledge is unceasing, Self-awareness, the Sambhogakaya of perfect enjoyment. The nature of objects is the five vases of wisdom eyes. Appearing but without substance, like a rainbow in the sky. Within that state, the five Nirmanakayas are clear. Clear but non-conceptual, like a lamp in a vase. The three Kayas are internally clear, abiding without gathering or scattering. Awareness, self-appearance, clear and transparent, The two Kayas are not visible in the realm, Qualities are unceasing, without gathering or scattering. The two Kayas are unceasing, existence is non-existence. The Dharmakaya is unchanging, non-existence is existence: Like a container and its essence, like a mirror and its reflection. Appearing but without inherent existence, therefore free from the fault of signs. Not appearing but with inherent existence, therefore transcending the fault of nihilistic emptiness. Liberated from the four extremes, samsara is enclosed by a fence. The meaning is unchanging, awareness seizes its own ground." Thus it is said. From the Tantra of the Great Clarity of Meaning Beyond Elaborations, the eighty-ninth chapter, Showing How the Fruit Arises. Then, the Lord of Secrets again asked: "Please speak about the essence, definition, divisions, and examples of the Vehicle." Thus he asked. The Teacher replied: "Vajradhara, well listen! The essence of the Vehicle is wisdom and compassion. The greatness or smallness of these two reveals the greatness or smallness of the Vehicle. The definition of the Vehicle is carrying and moving. Although the divisions are many, when condensed, there are only two. The Vehicle of characteristics, which takes cause and condition as the path, And the Vehicle of Secret Mantra, which takes the fruit as the path. A raft and a boat are examples of the Vehicle of characteristics, A bridge and the earth are examples of the Vehicle of Secret Mantra." Thus it is said. From the Tantra of Great Illumination of Meaning Beyond Conceptualization: The Seventieth Chapter, which Briefly Explains the Meaning of the Vehicles. Then again, the Lord of Secrets asked: O, O Blessed Vajradhara, please explain the views, meditation, conduct, and fruition of each vehicle, as well as their essence, definition, distinctions, and corresponding examples. The Teacher replied: The essence of view should be explained from the distinctions of each. The definitive meaning of view is the essence of self-aware wisdom, which is impartial intelligence. The definition is that it is called "view" because it is the ultimate in valid knowledge and philosophical tenets. There are two distinctions: valid view and invalid view. Valid view is Ati Yoga. Invalid view is Anuyoga and below. There are two examples of view: the example of valid view is like a mirror and appearances. There are eight examples of invalid view. Son of lineage, listen well: the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas are like a stream of water and a lion. The example of Bodhisattvas is like space, illusion, tangled hair, a reflection of the moon in water, etc.—appearing even though they do not exist. Kriya is like a king and his subjects. Yoga is like siblings and friends. Maha Yoga is like a king with flourishing power. Anu Yoga is like the equal union of male and female. Ati Yoga is like a great garuda soaring in the sky. Thus, it was said. Again he asked: O, O Blessed Vajradhara, please speak of the terms that represent these. The Teacher replied: In all the tantras and agamas I have taught, wherever the terms "view," "tenets," "valid," "ultimate," "final," and "fruit" appear, they are condensed into representative terms. Understand the individual situations. O great-minded one, asserting the two, object and subject, is explained as the view of the Shravakas. Saying that because there is a subject, there is no object, is explained as the view of the Pratyekabuddhas. Speaking of mind and the aspects of mind, and speaking of ultimate and conventional, is explained as the view of the Bodhisattvas. Asserting the three families when all ultimate truths are in accord is explained as the view of Kriya. Asserting two parts is explained as the view of Upa Yoga. If words asserting the seven branches of enlightenment appear, it is explained as the view of Yoga. Forty-two, fifty-eight, etc., are Maha Yoga.

It is said to be the view. When the verses of non-arising completion, and the words of space and wisdom arise, it is the view of Anu Yoga. The verses that transcend action and effort, and all the words of self-arisen wisdom, spontaneously accomplished primordial Buddhas, etc., these are said to be the view of Dzogchen. It is just a brief summary. Thus it was said. From the Tantra of Great Clarity of Meaning Beyond Proliferation, the chapter on explaining the meaning of view and showing the symbolic verses is the first chapter. Then again, the Lord of Secrets asked: Kye Kye, Bhagavan Vajradhara! Differentiate the intention, meditation, please speak the meaning of that. Thus he asked. The Teacher replied: Vajradhara, listen well! Essence, definition, division, and, metaphors are shown in the words of expression. The essence is to abide as one. There are four types of definition of meditation. It is meditation focused on meaning. Because it is not distracted, it is meditation. Because it is inseparable, it is meditation. It is habituated, familiar, and not separated. The division is shown as two types. There are two types, with signs and without signs. There are also two types of signless, the great effortless meditation method, and, meditation free from effort. It is the same with signs. In short, there are two types of generation and completion. There are four metaphors that represent meditation: ghee residing in a tree, water and milk mixed together, a jewel like clear water, and, like a butter lamp in a vase. Kye, Lord of Secrets, be sure to listen! Whatever arises as intention, meditation, samadhi, concentration, and, non-distraction, non-separation, no gathering and scattering, abiding and habituation, familiarity, etc., whatever arises, all those are said to be combinations of vocative sounds. Thus it was said. From the Tantra of Great Clarity of Meaning Beyond Proliferation, the chapter on explaining the meaning of meditation and including the symbolic words is the second chapter. Then again, the Lord of Secrets asked: Kye Kye, Bhagavan Vajradhara! Please speak the meaning of non-meditation. Thus he asked. The Teacher replied: Vajrapani, be sure to listen! The essence and definition of non-meditation, and, the words of division, metaphor, and expression are explained. The essence is self-awareness without interruption. Because there is no mental fabrication, therefore it is the word of non-meditation. Because it is naturally abiding and non-discriminating, and there is no need to do anything.
