Attachment and liberation arise simultaneously, appearances are pure simultaneously. Thus it is said. From the Great Tantra of Freedom from Elaborations, the Chapter on the Practice of Equal Union of the Three Times, the Fifty-fifth Chapter is completed. The Lord of Secrets again asked: Kye Kye Bhagavan Vajradhara, without confidence in view, meditation, and action, how do the realms of demons arise? How is the method of reversing them? Having asked thus, Vajradhara replied: If you have confidence in view, meditation, and action, the realms of demons will not arise. As long as you do not have confidence, eighteen realms of demons will arise. If the view is mistaken and without confidence, the apprehended and the apprehender, the five poisons of affliction, will arise. If meditation is without confidence and mistaken, the two demons of sinking and excitement will arise. If action is without confidence and mistaken, seven demons will arise in actions. Without confidence in view, meditation, and action, four demons of experience will arise. Thus, without meaning and without being meaningful, the realms of demons will arise. Although self-arisen wisdom is present within oneself, like a prince wandering as a commoner, not knowing one's own face, without instructions, realization does not arise. If the view does not become confidence, when the appearances of the five poisons arise, the consciousness of grasping will enter into them, entering through the five senses. When the object of hatred appears as an enemy, the grasping, the mental discriminations, in the realm of the eye, the appearance of form, hatred will arise in between. When harsh words occur in the ear, the mind grasps and increases hatred. Self-appearance, ungrasped, is an untrue demon. If grasped at will, it is the work of a demon, wandering in the realms of the three realms of samsara. Likewise, for other afflictions as well, the two, the apprehended and the apprehender, act perversely. To reverse from demons, the liberation of afflictions is, the enemy itself is the manifestation of the power of wisdom. Although one's own nature is empty and clear, because the grasping of emptiness and clarity is not established, the grasping of hatred is liberated in its own place. Likewise, for any affliction, self-appearance and self-liberation are indeed, if one examines outward at one's own object, one's own power arises and is liberated in its own place. If the object itself clearly arises inward, because consciousness enters outward into it, self-appearance, ungrasped, is liberated in its own place. When object and mind meet simultaneously, self-luminosity, object-luminosity, ungrasped, are liberated. In the great self-luminous Dharmakaya.

Sa! The three times are immutable. Discursive thoughts are fleeting. Grasping at objects, both are, being illusory displays, are fleeting. Knowing this, the demon of view is vanquished. Vanquishing the demon is Buddhahood right now. If view is endowed with certainty, then the demons of meditation, conduct, and experience are also vanquished. The demon of meditation is twofold, namely sinking and excitement. Whatever demon of sinking or excitement arises, sinking and excitement are self-liberated in their own place. However sinking or excitement may arise, hold fast with the certainty of the immutable Dharmakaya. Conduct is just like the instructions. Self-arisen, self-appearing, self-illuminating, self-awareness immutable is the display of power, clear like the sun's rays and inseparable. Discursive thoughts are merely fleeting. A person who realizes this will be liberated from the demons of sinking and excitement. Because of straying from the meaning of conduct, the demons of conduct arise as seven. The demon of busyness, enjoyment, and distraction, the demon of knowledge, qualities, and distraction. The demon of enjoyment has two aspects, hoping to achieve desired enjoyments, and rejecting undesired ones like enemies. Knowledge and qualities are also shown as two, hoping to achieve and fearing not achieving. Whatever conduct arises towards, whatever arises towards, it will not be accomplished, it will become a demon. Outwardly, the demon of hypocrisy, and inwardly, the six demons of afflictions used by oneself. This is a subtle difference, if one distinguishes from that, it is inconceivable. Whatever one particularly clings to, that is the general root of all demons, without particular clinging, demons will not arise. For any of the seven demons of conduct, they arise from oneself and appear from oneself. Those are self-liberated in their own place, just like the previous four stages of view, meditation, and conduct. In the four occasions with certainty as before, in view, being endowed with self-arisen, self-appearing certainty, the demons of conduct cannot intrude. In short, whatever demons arise, they are self-arisen, self-appearing, self-liberated in their own place. Realizing this way, one is separated from demons. The four demons of experience that are shown are those arising from body, speech, and mind, and the arising of blessings and prophecies. First, the display of the demon of the body, similarly, whatever is in the mind, appearing as signs or indications, is truly clinging to that. Similarly, in speech and mind, seeing signs and indications as sacred, that itself is the demon of speech and mind. On the body, happiness and so on arise, on the speech, one obtains the Dharma of happiness.
