I appear as the自在者 who governs the land, form appears as color and shape, sound appears as the realm of the ear, smell appears as the realm of the nose, taste appears as the realm of the tongue, touch appears as the realm of the body. Therefore, it is said that, experiencing many feelings, consciousness holds the mark on the object, action agitates the mind, attention is the focus of the mind, wisdom can cut off everything, consciousness is discernment. Everything arises from karma, what arises from cause and condition is action. What is born from moisture is sudden, complete maturation is transformation, womb-born is gradual maturation, egg-born is transformation and maturation. Hell is the path of suffering, hungry ghosts are the path of obstruction, animals are the path of darkness, the human realm is the measure, the god realm is distraction. For the sake of dwelling and walking is the path, cause and condition and dependence are inseparable, the path of samsara and nirvana. In the place of hell there is endurance, in the place of hungry ghosts there is mind, in the place of animals there is intoxication, in the place of humans there is desire, in the place of asuras there is strife, in the place of gods there is joy. For the sake of the meaning of dependence, it is shown as a place. Sons of the lineage, the cause of these is affliction, that is, the reason why each is attached to sound, and if the differences in meaning are distinguished, it is karma, cause and effect, and ignorance of not understanding the meaning of suchness. Attachment is clinging, pride is arrogance, anger is tormenting the mind, hatred is fighting, jealousy is unbearable. These are the six causes, from which the six natures and six fruits mature. O secret lord! These are the dharmas that now exist in the six realms, no matter how the lineage comes, understand that this is the dharma of the final kalpa as it is said here. Thus it was said. From the Tantra of Great Clarity of Meaning Free from Elaborations, the chapter on briefly explaining the five elements, the twenty-first chapter. Then, the secret lord asked again: The meaning of samsara appearing as adornment and enjoyment is like this, so please explain the five elements that arise in this way. The Teacher said: The nature, definition, and classification with examples of the five elements, I will explain, you listen attentively.

Herewith hold. Explaining through the door of distinguishing essence. The five essences and five dregs of the elements. The essence of the five essences is the five wisdoms that hold characteristics. The essence of the five dregs is the five elements of earth, water, fire, wind, and space. The definitive words of the five elements indicate that they arise as the power of intelligence, and from that power, the phenomena of samsara and nirvana appear. If distinguished, know that there are four categories. Essence and dregs are of two kinds. Each is the same. Son of the lineage, hold well! The essence of the elements is the five lights. The dregs are earth, water, fire, and wind. The dregs of essence are flesh, bones, and so on. The essence of dregs is the five aspects of the rainbow. For example, like the rays of the sun, like the light appearing in crystals. Thus it was said. From the Tantra of Great Clarity of Meaning, Free from Proliferation, the twenty-second chapter, which briefly explains the five elements. Again, asked by the Lord of Secrets: Alas, alas, Bhagavan Vajradhara! How do the five dregs and essences arise? What are the characteristics of the essence elements? How should the nature of reality be applied to meaning? How are the dregs liberated into essence? Thus he asked. The Teacher replied: Vajradhara, listen! The characteristic of earth is solidity. The characteristic of water is fluidity. The characteristic of fire is heat. The characteristic of wind is lightness and movement. The characteristic of space is vastness and openness. Distinguish them accordingly from their respective functions. From the essence of earth, white light arises. From that, the dregs appear as earth. Likewise, from the essence of the elements, four kinds of light arise. From that, the four dregs appear. The characteristics of the dregs of essence are stability without solidity, gathering without fluidity, movement without agitation, and burning without heat. It is the radiance without pervasiveness. The nature of reality, the Dharmakaya, is unchanging. Undifferentiated, the earth is stable without solidity. The nature of reality and the Dharmakaya are non-dual, pure, clear, and without defilement. All are gathered into its essence. Water is gathering without fluidity. The nature of reality and the Dharmakaya are undifferentiated, without movement and without obstruction. Wind is moving without agitation, reaching places not gone to. Because the nature of reality and the Dharmakaya are non-dual, great wisdom abides in its own radiance. Because there is no conceptual thought of appearing as other, fire is burning without heat.
