Pa. Furthermore, there are three aspects to this. Dharmata is the basis of delusion for objects, Rigpa is the basis of delusion for mind, and the five lights are shown as the basis of delusion for the body. First, dharmata is undifferentiated emptiness. In the middle, primordial wisdom arises distinctly. Finally, attachment, conceptualization, and habitual tendencies are shown. In it, although there is no essence, it appears. This shows the basis of delusion for objects. Now, I will explain the basis of delusion for mind. First, rigpa changes without interruption. In the middle, attachment to sound arises. Finally, the mind's thoughts change. From that, many mental thoughts arise. The basis of delusion for mind is shown there. This shows the basis of delusion for the body. First, rigpa arises from the expanse. In the middle, dharmata arises in the expanse. Finally, because of habitual tendencies towards that, the aggregates of form appear as coarse things. The basis of delusion for the body is shown by that. Alas, alas, Vajrapani (གསང་བདག), definitely hold on! I will explain the reasonability of the three bases. Dharmata is the basis of delusion for objects, it is reasonable. Why does something without awareness appear as matter? Rigpa is the basis of delusion for mind, it is reasonable. Why is it that just rigpa is in accordance with all directions? The five lights are the basis of delusion for the body, it is reasonable. Why is it that color and shape are in accordance with all directions? From the difference between subtle and coarse, the difference between base and object is shown. I will explain the words that symbolize that, listen! What is called "delusion," what is called "rigpa," what is called "radiance," what is called "the first kalpa," what is called "beginning," and "before the past and future," and "before I did not exist," the term "sentient being" originally did not exist. "Before there were no sentient beings," the "great elements" were originally superior. "Before there were no elements," the "great space" was originally superior. "Before there was no space," "dharmata purity" was originally superior. "From the vastness of dharmata purity," the "five great essences" were originally completely pure. "In the essence of the five great ones," "I" alone arose first. Therefore, billions of trillions of eons ago, I arose before anything else. All that I have said, with a calling tone, presses the meaning on the basis of delusion. Son of lineage, it has been explained in detail in the chapter on the appearance of the base, so it is not mentioned here. Thus it was said. From the Tantra of the Great Clarity of Meaning Free from Elaborations, showing that there is no delusion on the true base, and that the appearance of qualities is the three bases of delusion.

This is the seventeenth chapter on manifestation. Then, the Lord of Secrets asked: Alas, alas, Teacher Vajradhara! What is the cause of delusion? How long does delusion last? The Teacher answered: The cause of delusion is ignorance, both innate and imputed. The essence, definition, divisions, and similarities are explained. Son of lineage, the essence of ignorance is delusion and grasping at what is not that as that. The definition is that it is ignorance because of being deluded about the meaning. There are two divisions: innate ignorance and imputed ignorance. What is innate ignorance, from where to where is it innate, and whose ignorance of what is it? Son of lineage, from where does it arise? It arises from the mind that grasps the basis. What and what are they? Innate wisdom and ignorance. What is ignorance? It is ignorance in the expanse of the unconditioned nature of reality. Whose ignorance of what is it? It is like the radiance of one's own nature, like the appearance of the radiance of a reflection in a mirror, it is ignorance. That meaning is called innate ignorance. Imputed ignorance is the arising of coarse and subtle perceptions of objects, in a succession of moments. An example is like a blind old woman. Alas, son of lineage! Ignorance does not truly exist. So, what is it like? It is like the untrue appearance of a stake or rope, or like the appearance of an enemy to someone who is innocent or has been defeated before, or like seeing a snake in a rope from an impure appearance. It appears even though it does not truly exist; it is empty even as it appears. Son of lineage, just like that example, ignorance does not actually exist, but it is experienced. From what does it arise? Because the end of the body is not complete, the power of wisdom is not complete; because the power of wisdom is not complete, the memory of awareness is not awakened in the five self-radiant wisdoms of the objects seen. That too, from the unmoving state of Kuntuzangpo, the arising of the wisdom of the nature of the state, when objects appear without obstruction, because it has not been seen before, the mind becomes attached to it, and the limit of realizing the great self-appearance is not determined. Son of lineage, that is the reason for ignorance. Ignorance, unknowing, delusion, not understanding, unfamiliarity, delusion arising from not seeing the meaning, and perversion.
