It is not said that the essence is not, nor is it willing to accept. It is merely the way of appearance, and there is no reliance on real meaning in this. That basis of abiding in this way is called the basis of reversing appearance. It is the embodiment of spontaneous accomplishment. Then, the Bodhisattva again asked: Alas, Teacher Samantabhadra! That basis of spontaneous accomplishment is not the true basis. If it were, it would become like this: These sentient beings, through effort, would not be liberated, because they are defiled by ignorance. If it is said that liberation is achieved through the spontaneous accomplishment of the cause of awareness, then wouldn't the fruit and the cause be liberated at the same time? For example, for black coal, it is impossible to turn it into white with detergents. Because cause and effect are different. Or, if the fruit is not spontaneously accomplished, then it is not spontaneously accomplished. Similarly, if cause and effect are one, then all efforts, before the fruit is spontaneously accomplished, it becomes unnecessary to obtain the fruit through effort. Because the fruit itself is spontaneously accomplished, the fault of cause and effect contradicting itself cannot be avoided. Therefore, can the basis of spontaneous accomplishment be established? Samantabhadra said to me: The Teacher said: Great Bodhisattva, just as you understand, this itself is the object of knowledge, not the true essence. The Bodhicitta of the gathering sun, said to the Teacher: Alas, Teacher Samantabhadra! What the Teacher said before, the basis of uncertain abiding, this is also not the true basis, this is how I understand it. The fruit is alternating, sometimes a horse, sometimes an elephant, alternating, sometimes a basis, sometimes a path. Is that so? Or it will become contradictory. Like considering water as fire. If fire is clung to as water, then knowledge has no uncertainty. Uncertainty becomes certain, if uncertainty is uncertain, water itself is water, then what will happen? It is certain. One's own uncertainty exists, if one is uncertain about oneself, then there is no end. Certainty therefore becomes certain. Like the end of a business. All of these are not practiced from the knowable, are they? The Teacher said, that is so. Again, the sun gatherer asked: Alas, Teacher

O Samantabhadra! What you said earlier, called the "basis of certainty," is not the real essence either. For example, to those afflicted with jaundice due to illness, a white conch appears yellow. If the conch itself is yellow, how can one know that the nature of the conch is not yellow? Because of the difference in nature, just as there is no self or other, and neither self-nature nor other-nature can be established, it is free from the limits of certainty. Therefore, that is not the excellent knowable either. Or, if it is determined to be a cause, the result will never arise. If so, what is the difference between the cause producing the result and the result producing the cause? It will necessarily become that I and permanence are no different. Is this not also a knowable? What you said is the same as before. Then, he further supplicated: What was said earlier about being able to transform, if one's own state can be transformed, this is also similarly without certainty. If the state can be transformed, the fault of the result becoming endless is avoided. Because the result itself turns into the cause of sentient beings. The result becomes the cause, all efforts become unnecessary. Because of repeated transformations, matter also becomes conscious. For example, if the basis changes, then transform matter into conscious beings now! Just as it is not possible to go. Is this not a knowable, but rather something that should not be practiced? What you said is also the same. The Bodhisattva further supplicated: The Teacher spoke confusedly earlier. This also cannot avoid the fault of one basis and different appearances. For example, it is like saying it is both a pillar and a cloth. If it is a pillar, it is not a cloth. This is also inconsistent with the tenet, because one cause produces different results. Through what does this essence appear? Different results cannot be integrated into one meaning. Because it is damaged by the sound of many. Is this not a knowable? What you said is also the same. Again he supplicated, O Teacher Samantabhadra! If it is thought that all commitments can be made at will, and with, the Teacher himself has said before. This is entirely the bias of the tenet. In the case where everything is, it is not certain to find purity, and impurity cannot be found either, because purity and impurity are mixed together. It will become the fault of having no limit. Is this not a knowable? What the Teacher said earlier.
