Radé. In the nature of mind that appears as feeling, experiences are liberated in their own place. In the nature of mind that appears as perception, the aspects of grasping and being grasped are liberated in their own place. In the nature of mind that appears as formation, the number of afflictions are liberated in their own place. In the nature of mind that appears as conceptual grasping, the objects of memory are liberated in their own place. Thus spoke the Teacher himself. The bodhisattvas, mahasattvas, such as Boundless Light, and their retinues, having gained mastery over the mind as it is, became endowed with the view of the Great Vajradhara. Then again, the bodhisattva mahasattva Boundless Light asked the Teacher Samantabhadra: "O Teacher Samantabhadra, what is the meaning of those things that appear as mind? If I do not understand these, please, O Great Lord of Speech, speak!" Having asked this, the Teacher Samantabhadra replied: "O bodhisattva mahasattva, listen! The distinctions of mind are inconceivable, but the meanings of these things should be understood as follows: Awareness and the nature of mind arising from awareness, and the minds that hold their own characteristics." Again, he requested: "O Teacher Samantabhadra, what is awareness and the nature of mind arising from awareness? What is the mind that holds its own characteristics? Please explain all of this to me." The Teacher said: "O Great-minded One! Awareness and the nature of mind arising from awareness are beyond all defilements and discriminations. In short, it is all the cause and effect of nirvana, the field of experience for those who see the self-appearance of awareness. The mind that holds its own characteristics is all that appears as eternally existent gods, and all that appears as existent, and likewise all that appears as non-existent, and appearance, sound, seeing, meditation, all that appears as action, and grasping, discrimination, and afflictions. In short, it is all that appears as objects of thought. In short, all the phenomena of samsara are the mind that holds its own characteristics, all the appearances of the six classes of beings' own karma. O Great-minded One! If the self-nature of mind and wisdom are not distinguished, it is like the sun obscured by clouds.
