For the mind-essence devoid of any appearance, the sole subtle appearance is known as the view of the great, non-elaborate All-Good; I, Samantabhadra, have thus revealed it. In such a self-clear, pure view, the mind is also thoroughly settled, so the yogi gains freedom over the mind and is liberated from the bonds of defilement. Thereafter, the Bodhisattva named Boundless Light requested the teacher, Samantabhadra, with these words: "O teacher, Samantabhadra, if the mind-essence is thus without existence, then what is the mind-essence that has existence? Please bestow your teachings upon me." The teacher spoke: "Great-hearted Bodhisattva, I have revealed it; listen to me. Those that have existence are as follows: In the mind-essence that has arising, all these appear as the play of wisdom. Because the appearances of the six realms arise spontaneously, grasping onto various forms, the appearance ripens into form. In the mind-essence that has cessation, because impermanence arises spontaneously as the cause, in the appearance of no-self-nature, it is perfected like a dream. In the mind-essence that has elaboration, because various appearances arise spontaneously, when the five senses appear separately, it is perfected from the aspect of abiding in its own place. In the mind-essence that can be taught, because sounds, words, and names arise spontaneously, conceptual minds are self-purified, and the secret instructions of the lama are perfected. In the mind-essence that can be seen, because various elemental causes arise spontaneously, when appearing in the realm of appearance, it is perfected in the nature of unmixed self-clarity. In the mind-essence that can be habituated, the aggregates of appearance arise separately, self-connected in the great union, it is perfected with the possession of unfailing dharani. In the mind-essence that is the object, because all appearances arise spontaneously, the two graspings are self-purified, and the six objects are perfected separately. In the mind-essence that can be expressed, the tantras, scriptures, and instructions, one relies on the other, in one, it is perfected together with the established tenets. In the mind-essence that can be meditated upon, because calm abiding and insight arise spontaneously, in equipoise and afterwards, it is perfected in the great, unwavering samadhi. In the mind-essence that can be viewed, because samsara and nirvana arise spontaneously as one, the three realms are self-liberated in their own place, it is perfected in the great perfection of Ati nature. In the mind-essence that can be acted upon, because actions and agents arise spontaneously, from the aspect of appearance self-grasping, the mind-essence is conduct."

All is perfectly complete. In the nature of mind that can be attained, Hope itself is self-manifesting, Free from all efforts and accomplishments, The three kayas are perfectly complete in themselves. In the nature of mind that can be counted, The various vehicles manifest themselves, Not based on desire or speculation, It is perfectly complete as the great secret essence. In the nature of mind that can be focused on, Various appearances manifest themselves, Names and colors are distinct, It is perfectly complete as the two aspects of the form kaya. In the nature of mind that can be measured, The realm of appearances manifests itself, The very ground of permanence manifests itself, It is perfectly complete with the support of focus. In the nature of mind that can be proclaimed, Wondrous words manifest themselves, As the basis of all that can be expressed, It is perfectly complete with the words of the teacher. In the nature of mind that can be placed, Appearances manifest as the basis of self-placement, The view of great effortless abiding, Is perfectly complete in the manner of not seeking. In the nature of mind that can be transformed, The afflictions manifest themselves, Like poison being transformed into medicine, It is perfectly complete as the kayas and wisdoms themselves. In the nature of mind that can be purified, The objects of the five senses are self-purified, Like undisturbed water becoming clear, The appearances are perfectly complete in their own place. In the nature of mind that can be liberated, In the realm of appearances that appear in this way, Like the knots of a snake unraveling themselves, It is liberated in its own dwelling place and is perfectly complete. In the nature of mind that can be measured, The measures of pure self-appearance, Like being reduced to measures of bushels and scales, The experience increases more and more. Thus, the nature of mind that exists, Arises as the master of all appearances, The defilements of all the minds that arise, Are self-purified. Then, the Bodhisattva, With infinite rays of light, To the teacher Samantabhadra, Asked with these words: "O, O, Teacher Samantabhadra, If the existing mind is like that, What is the nature of the appearing mind?" Teacher, possessing great compassion, Please explain the order to me." The teacher said, "Great Bodhisattva, The yogi who holds onto the mind, Explains it in this way: In the nature of mind where the six aggregates appear, The collections of thoughts 456 are purified in their own place. In the nature of mind where sound and words appear, The names and terms are purified in their own place. In the nature of mind where gross appearances appear, The conditions of the four elements are purified in their own place. The form
