Empowerment. The inner secret is like this: After twenty-one are exhausted, perform the twenty empowerments of instructions. The secret of secrets is like this: For the sake of practicing purification, perform the empowerment of the seven methods of placement. The complete secret is like this: For the sake of having secret wisdom, perform the empowerment of the lamp of awareness. Likewise, the various aspects of empowerment should be conferred in sequence. Thus, from the Tantra of the Great Self-Arisen Awareness, the fifth chapter, which teaches the summary of empowerments. Then, again, the Lord of Secrets spoke thus: Alas, Bhagavan Vajradhara! If the summary of empowerments is like that, for us, the retinue of devotees, please speak of the self-liberation of signs. Thus he requested. Then, again, the command was given: Ema, listen, Lord of Secrets! Hold well in mind what I have taught. The intention of self-liberation of signs is very difficult for you to understand. Listen carefully to what I have taught. In the ten directions, in the dust-like expanse, no matter how many seeds of Buddhas are emanated, the seeds themselves have no increase or decrease. Likewise, in the intention of self-liberation, increase and decrease are separate from Dharma. The intention of self-liberation of signs is like the ebb and flow of the ocean. The waves never cease, and it is naturally accomplished. The intention of self-liberation of signs is like abiding in the state of the ocean. Without practicing the ground and path, one goes to the state. In the expanse of emptiness, lose awareness. In the very act of losing, there is the supreme attainment. In the palace of the mind of realization, the nature of phenomena, which is the emptiness of appearance, is lost. By losing, wisdom swirls in the sky. By attaining, one is like the Vajra body. In the realm of great emptiness, pure wisdom dawns as light. The light of appearance is unceasing and engages in meaning. Like a sharp sword, in the nature of phenomena of self-liberation of emptiness, without grasping, it dissolves on its own. In the mirror of self-arisen nature of phenomena, without grasping, one attains non-thought. In the mandala of all pure appearances, from the mandala of empty-clear Vajra, non-thought is self-arisen, transparent. It is free from the extremes of grasping and fabrication. In the Dharma free from extremes, there is no desire. Know that desire is self-arisen and non-existent. The intention of self-liberation of signs is that clarity is separate from the side of realization. Without grasping, it is liberated on its own. Without thought, one sees the truth. Therefore, for the self-liberation of signs, what is done

The nature of this Dharma is without origin. It acts upon the Dharma of arising and arising. The Buddha's intention is self-liberation itself. From the direction where darkness is dispelled, one should look with utmost clarity. Although there is nothing to see in the true meaning, if one looks, one finds the intention of self-liberation. This, the very pinnacle of all views, is taught as Ati (Tibetan, Devanagari script, Roman transliteration, literal Chinese meaning) Great Perfection. Vastness means opening up opportunity. It should be understood as being like the sky. The meaning of vast, deep, and immeasurable is like the depth of the great ocean. The meaning of the gathering of clear rays of light should be understood as being the very mandala of the sun. In order to be liberated from the limits of conceptualization, it is said to be the king of secret mantra methods. By gaining the meaning of the self-liberation of signs, the clear light of wisdom is revealed in secret. This Mahayana is like the rising of the sun in the sky. It is said that there is no darkness at the end from the very beginning. From the intention of the self-liberation of signs, the nature of Dharma, there is no object of meditation, and one is liberated from the Dharma of grasping. Attachment to meditation and the ego-grasping that is without it is the cause of suffering. If one always sees the place where there is no meditation, then where does one not see the self-liberation of signs that is without meditation? The sphere of the indivisible, spontaneously perfect thigle is great. The unborn wisdom is a precious jewel. The unperfected essence of enlightenment is great. Because of non-action, the spontaneously perfect thigle is great. Because of non-samsara, the bliss of nirvana is great. The Vajra Mandala, which is not equal to all, is great. Thus, such great wisdom abides in all. Without needing to be accomplished, it abides naturally from the very beginning. It cannot be sought, for it is the realm of manifest purity. It cannot be wished for, for great bliss is perfected in the heart. All conditioned dharmas cannot be abandoned, but there is an abandoner. All dharmas are perfected and increase within oneself. There is nothing to abandon, and one is separated from the Dharma that has been abandoned. The abandoner is also not seen, so where is there something to be abandoned? The body that perfects Dharma and awareness. Because there is no taking and leaving and complete separation from grasping, the equality of the three times, Vajrasattva, is great. Vajrasattva enjoys all wisdom. Enjoyment is inconceivable and has no end. There is no decrease in the sphere, and one realizes the nature of Dharma in its own state. There is no realization or non-realization, eliminating the limits of words. If one is not distracted from the meaning of the self-liberation of signs, then there is no ground to rely on, and one is separated from the object of grasping. If there is no object and no grasping, then there is the power of enlightenment and bliss. Power and samadhi, whatever enters into skill, straying, obscuration, falling.
