Wisdom is like this: From that, countless collections of afflictions arise. That is also like this: Six kinds of grasping minds arise. The mind that corresponds to ignorance, the mind that discriminates, the mind that seeks everywhere, the mind that determines, the mind that is extremely coarse, and the mind that definitely establishes. Among them, it is also like this: The mind that possesses correspondence with ignorance is like this: The root is the actual ignorance, accompanied by the movement of the mind. That is the mind that possesses correspondence with ignorance. The mind that discriminates is: Because of grasping onto "I" and "self" with the knowledge that thinks the object is "mine," and because it has become a slave to afflictions, it is called the mind that discriminates. The mind that determines is: Because of grasping with the knowledge that thinks the object is "mine," attachment arises to that, and it is called determination. The mind that seeks everywhere is: Having become a slave to the object, it gathers all subtle afflictions. Therefore, it is called the mind that seeks everywhere. The mind that is extremely coarse is: With coarse afflictions, it commits many actions such as killing and breaking vows. The mind that definitely establishes is: In the appearances of those, thinking "it is me" and thinking "it is others," that is the mind that definitely establishes. That is the ignorance of grasping and conceptualizing. The ignorance of the contrived path is: When the six minds gather, they obscure the path of wisdom, that is, the mind does not see wisdom and does not make it clear. Wisdom has no conceptualization, because the mind has the function of moving, so it obscures the path to Buddhahood. That is the ignorance of the contrived path. The ignorance of unknowing and delusion is: Because one does not recognize that one's own appearance is light, one wanders again and again in samsara. That is the ignorance of unknowing and delusion. Similarly, if six kinds of ignorance arise, it is not recognizing the appearance of wisdom. That is also like this: In the appearance of primordial purity, there is no ignorance, no mind, and no intellect. In the power of spontaneous accomplishment, ignorance arises. From the play of ignorance, mind arises. From the adornment of mind, intellect arises. From the object of intellect, the five poisons arise. From the five poisons, sixteen afflictions arise. From sixteen, twenty-five arise. From that, fifty-one arise. From that, eighty thousand arise.

. What are the sixteen? Ignorance, mind, intellect, grasping, awareness, unknowing, unseen, unawakened, uncomprehending, one's own immediate, self-grasping, stinginess towards others, desire, attachment, pride, and anger, these sixteen. Above all of these are: delusion, desire, hatred, pride, and jealousy. Furthermore, like this, there are five types of delusion: extremely obscured delusion, unknowing delusion, unseen delusion, extremely dim delusion, and extremely intoxicated delusion, these five. There are also five types of desire: desire for desire, extremely yearning desire, desire that disregards life, desire accompanied by hatred, and desire that acts in space, these five. There are also five types of hatred: hatred with strong desire, hatred accompanied by anger, extremely coarse hatred, hatred accompanied by delusion, and hatred like a seasonal dragon rain, these five. There are also five types of pride: pride that overpowers like a lion, pride that is unparalleled like the sky, pride that is brave and strong like a tiger, pride that is self-righteous like a vulture, and pride that boasts of equality when unequal like an elephant, these five. There are also five types of jealousy: subtle jealousy, jealousy arising from pride, extremely violent jealousy, coarse jealousy, and observant jealousy, these five. These are the twenty-five afflictions. From that arises anger. From anger arise twenty-five formations. From these arise the inconceivable, the unspeakable, the countless, the beyond number, the uncountable. Thus, from the Great Self-Arisen Awareness Tantra, the chapter on the mind of ignorance is the first. Then again, the Lord of Secrets requested thus: Ee! Ee! Great Teacher! Since ignorance is like that, please speak of the distinctions of awareness. Thus he requested. Then again, the command was given: Lord of Secrets, listen! I will explain well, you should hold it. It is like this: awareness that overpowers like a lion, awareness that is distinguished like an elephant, the sky
