If all appearances are pure, the great path is found. If there is no duality, great bliss is attained. If grasping and the grasped are purified, great wisdom arises. If free from action, there is great perfection. If free from doing, it is spontaneously accomplished. Mind and the nature of phenomena are primordially non-dual, but by desiring to conceptualize, there is never liberation. In short, sentient beings are also Buddhas, depending on whether mind and phenomena are dual or non-dual. Vajra Kuntu Zangpo does not speak falsely. If mind and phenomena are non-dual, then contemplation and so forth are useless. Therefore, non-action and spontaneous perfection are supreme. Therefore, all lesser vehicles are inferior to this, inferior by realizing the phenomena of the mind. Therefore, non-action and non-doing are the ultimate meaning. Thus, this is the secret essence of the non-duality of phenomena and mind. The second instruction. Homage to the Bhagavan who dispels wrong beliefs! Argument, instruction, and explanation, these three should be understood by this distinction. The ground of pure nature, the ground of pure realization, and the ground accumulated by grasping. The ground of samsara, the basis of nirvana, the ground of both are distinguished by differences. Elements, great elements, and small elements, these three bases are separately distinguished. Earth is the nature of phenomena, great elements are the space element, and each of the small elements also has five. The nature of phenomena is the basis of all samsara and nirvana, Bodhicitta is the basis of all nirvana, and deluded mind is the basis of all samsara. Mind arises from mind, mind merges with mind, the wise should know the two, samsara and nirvana. Why is mind known? The mind that arises from mind is said to be so, the mind that merges into mind is said to be so, and the mind that grasps is said to be so. However it arises, that is it, and that is also the two, samsara and nirvana. External and internal heretics, the Victorious Ones declare them to be samsara. Nirvana has two, meaning and sign, and is also said to be provisional and definitive. It is also said to be the path and the companions of the path. The path is completely pure, and if it is symbolized by existence, the companions of the path up to Anuman are called internal heretics. If Samye (Samye Monastery, located in Lhoka, Tibet) is summarized, it is gathered into four: mediocrity, far-flung, bad views, and the four heretics are the two views of permanence and annihilation. The mediocre are ignorant of good and evil, cause and effect, and past and future, and are completely ignorant. The far-flung do not know cause and effect, and these strive for power, wealth, and strength. Those with bad views have no cause and effect, and these appearances are sudden, like a whirlwind.

is foolish. Therefore, they all want annihilation. The heretics want permanence. They want a permanent "self," want a cause without effect, want an effect without cause, and want a lord. This is the doctrine of the matted-hair ascetics. The lord, with unobstructed power, creates beings at once. The Brahmins, Samkhyas, and naked ascetics, things are permanent, and nature changes. Purusha (पुरुष, puruṣa, spirit, man) "I" does not create others, nor do others create "I." The Charvakas are like whirlwinds. The Murdhakas want annihilation. For them, this is permanent, because it arises suddenly at any time. Samsara has no end. Or will dissolution occur? Will others arise from that? If that itself occurs, then it becomes permanent. If that does not occur, then there is cause or no cause. If it does not occur that way, then effort is meaningless. If consciousness arises from matter, then the faults of inconsistent cause and effect are inconceivable. The matted-hair ascetics want a lord. Is that lord existent or nonexistent? The lord has no action, why does the lord act? If action arises without action, then permanence will also produce annihilation, and annihilation will also produce permanence. That occurrence is uncertain, and cannot be permanent. For the case where there is action, because there is action, there is no need to contemplate. The Samkhya's things themselves are not permanent, and nature changes in any way. If pleasure and pain are experienced, what is the use of permanent things? If it does not change in any way, then the boundaries of samsara and nirvana are cut off. Is nirvana permanent or is samsara permanent? If samsara is permanent, then it contradicts direct perception. If nirvana is permanent, then what is the use of it like space? If samsara and nirvana are not two, and things are permanent and nature changes, then hell is also Buddha, and Buddha is also hell. Beings themselves have no difference. Therefore, permanence and annihilation are confused. After confusion, those are just appearances. Those two are non-dual, the ultimate Dharma. Samantabhadra's heart essence, appears in the wisdom of the fortunate. This is the secret heart essence that cuts off external arguments, the third chapter. Homage to the Bhagavan, the nature of freedom from elaboration. In the Dharmakaya, free from elaboration and spontaneously accomplished, to grasp conceptual thoughts as "self" is itself a delusion. Delusion itself, from the purity of self-nature, there is nothing to be purified or obtained by anything. Or, from purity itself, realizing that itself, there is no thinker or thought, naturally
