There. If meditation is dull, happiness diminishes. Greed is blind, lacking superior insight. Without self-awareness, peaceful abiding sinks. No matter how much you meditate, it is devoid of meaning. There is no happiness apart from suffering itself. With a mind deluded by ignorance, even if you meditate, it is meaningless, deceived by demons. Therefore, the oral instructions with lineage are precious. Now listen again, Vajrasattva. If the demon of agitation and non-conceptualization arises, because there are no instructions, one delights in gatherings. Abandoning self-interest, one engages in worldly affairs. One makes various attachments of acceptance and rejection. One grasps the meaning with prior and subsequent knowledge, letting it go like the sun rising for a blind woman. The confidence is established as the supreme state of the Dharmadhatu. Now listen again, Vajrasattva. Having claimed to be a holy yogi, one does not delight in solitude but delights in gatherings. People who strive for the eight worldly dharmas, only generate certainty in words. Influenced by external conditions, demons enter, abandoning Samadhi and clinging to various perceptions of non-mental objects. Without non-conceptualization, afflictions rage. One does not look at the Dharma but seeks fame. With attachments of acceptance and rejection, one binds one's own mind. Because of straying from Samadhi, one is deceived by the demon of distraction. Now listen again, Vajrasattva. Wherever the demon of many distractions arises, because one has not become accustomed to the meaning, subtle awareness, feelings, and thoughts flow. Therefore, one hates thieves again and again. Not forgetting 505, held by the dharani of memory. The nature of conceptual thought is clear awareness. All are the supreme fruit of the Dharmakaya. Now listen again, Vajrasattva. For the yogi who is a beginner in practice, because one has not repeatedly become accustomed, and because the activity of peaceful abiding is not manageable, attachment is self-liberated, devoid of experience. The demon of distraction and thievery enters, any single word, because of focusing on it in the mind, one is devoid of immovability. Therefore, one's own mind strays into consciousness. Because faith is small, there are no instructions. Because diligence is small, one is devoid of experience. Increase and decrease, thieves arise again and again. Because one does not possess definitive confidence, one falls, deceived by subtle demons. Now listen again, Vajrasattva. The demons of meditation also arise for those who lack definitive meaning. They cannot harm those with lineage. Whatever one meditates on without realization becomes a demon. In the tantra of the Great Perfection, where all definitive meanings are gathered, the wisdom is equal to space, the chapter on showing the demons of meditation is the same meaning. Now listen again, Vajrasattva. The

The Mara of bustling enjoyment, The Mara of delightful attachment to places, The Mara of distraction from learning and qualities, The evil companions and mind-confusing Maras all arise. Now again, Vajrasattva, listen! If the Mara of bustling enjoyment arises, Without secret instructions, they act hypocritically, People desire and cling to others' minds. Devoid of meaning, they fall into self-grasping and jealousy. They have little attachment, calling those enemies. Like a child, without attachment, they are seized by meaning. They realize enjoyment as self-liberation and play. Now again, Vajrasattva, listen! The yogi's self-arising certainty is this: If they stay in a monastery, faithful ones gather. They rely on hypocritical, flattering people. They show everything to everyone with sweet words. Having entered the Mara of bustling enjoyment, They abandon Samadhi and cling to others' minds. Hoping for offerings, they cling to high positions, Saying they are Dharma practitioners, desiring and craving. They delight in reciting nominal Dharma. They abandon the meaning of meditation, the Mara of distraction. They grasp at the patrons, saying "I am the owner." They are deceived by great busyness and fall. Now again, Vajrasattva, listen! The distinction of the Mara of attachment to places is this: Those with little learning, greatly learned, build delightful places. Because auspicious delightful places are free of spirits, They rely on spirits, have power, and threaten others. Know that you are not attached to places and have no clinging. Knowing that self and other have no basis, Wherever you sit is Akanishta (a pure land). Now again, Vajrasattva, listen! For the yogi who desires solitude, In a place that suits them, The senses grasp at objects as self. Auspicious, free of spirits, powerful gods, The Mara of self-praise and attachment has entered, Having abandoned Samadhi, they build delightful places. Saying, "Protected by protectors, there is no freedom to go," They praise themselves without meaning. Therefore, because the result is meaningless, They arise as the Mara of self-comfort. They fall to the end of Samsara, with no liberation. The Mara of places deceives and causes them to fall. Now again, Vajrasattva, listen! The distinction of the Mara of qualities and distraction is this: Having the five wisdoms, they remember respect. They abandon meaning, others' benefit, and their own continuum goes astray. They turn away from attachment, remember meaning, and subdue with power. Know that without Mara, it is wisdom urging you on. Distraction, self and other, is accomplished as Dharmakaya. Now again, listen to the essence of the gathering! Because the yogi has faith in the Dharma, A person who knows various qualities, Even with the power of the five wisdoms, They deliberately benefit others. The Mara of distraction has entered their mind. They lose Samadhi because of others' praise.
