From the Tantra of Sameness with the Wisdom Sky, which embodies all definitive meanings, Chapter Twelve, which explains the two stages of generation and completion. Then, to the assembled gathering, the Omniscient King of Dharma, regarding the ways in which Dzogchen is generally mistaken, specially instructed the retinue: Through confusion and rambling speculation, and through clinging to words and scriptures, I will explain the meaning to you, listen well and grasp it with your mind. The ways in which Dzogchen is generally mistaken are like seeing precious gold turn into a snake. General and rambling speculation, and relying solely on scriptural words for certainty, I will explain these mistakes, listen well. Names are merely the basis for understanding words, hoping to become scholars, they arbitrarily define terms, like meaninglessly searching for the edge of the sky. Merely understanding words does not lead to understanding the meaning, claiming that the words themselves are the meaning is wrong. Now listen again to Vajrasattva, the rambling glorious one employs "Ah La La" (藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思). By appearance, it gathers the mind, making it a servant. The distinctions of Ah La La are ten spontaneous accomplishments, no result will arise, it is a mistake. It does not accord with the basis, it contradicts scripture and reason. Not knowing the basis itself, one is just an ordinary person. Now listen again to the essence of the gathering, to mistake speculation for deities is wrong, like secret mantras appearing differently in powder. Desiring the generation stage and completion stage is a mistake in the order, because one has not grasped the meaning, there is no result. There are no deities in the basis, 403 there is no need for the generation stage, the unborn Dharmakaya is inherently present. Now listen again to the essence of the gathering, the ways in which clinging to scriptural words is mistaken, merely relying on scriptural words without basis, not understanding the three intentions is wrong. Merely with scriptural words, one cannot understand the meaning, with these meaningless words, one can understand the meaning without scripture, one is inherently a Buddha. Now listen again to the essence of the gathering, these four mistakes, because they are characteristics of the general, because they contradict the basis, they deviate from the meaning. Therefore, scripture and key instructions are needed. From the Tantra of Sameness with the Wisdom Sky, which embodies all definitive meanings of Dzogchen, Chapter Thirteen, which explains the ways in which Dzogchen is generally mistaken. The third chapter, which summarizes the teachings. Then, Vajrasattva, for the benefit of the assembled retinue, to the Omniscient Self-Arisen Teacher, with a mind of devotion, asked: How are the outer Dzogchen Ati teachings integrated into the mind? By the mind of darkness,

How is it obscured? How are the views desired by the mind mistaken? How is one's own mind not the definitive meaning? What are the examples to distinguish the evil mind? How great are the faults of the eight consciousnesses? I beseech the All-Knowing One to explain. Having asked thus, and hearing the meaning, He spoke to the assembled retinue: In the mind 404, all dharmas are one, They are the dharmas of samsara and nirvana. Ignorance and wisdom are the two realms of activity, Although there are differences between wrong thoughts and wisdom, The nature of the mind is inherently one. Now listen again, Vajrasattva, That too is an example illustrating that nature: Clouds, rainbows, vapors, And various manifestations of miracles, Are like flavors in the sky. The names and characteristics of objects, Are all conceived by one's own mind, Therefore, all inner and outer dharmas are unified in the mind. Therefore, all dharmas without exception, Are unified in the mind because they have no lineage. Now listen again, Vajrasattva, This mind of ignorant delusion, Desiring to attain enlightenment is truly pitiful, Because one is deluded about oneself, Like a madman chasing a shadow. From the Tantra of the Equality of Wisdom and Space, the Great Perfection, the Definitive Meaning, the Chapter Fourteen, which teaches that all dharmas are gathered into the mind. Then, to the assembled retinue, The All-Knowing King spoke thus: The darkness of the mind of ignorance, Is the discrimination of rejecting and grasping, The habitual tendencies and afflictions are samsara, Separated from that is the bindu of the Dharmakaya. Now listen again, Vajrasattva, The greatness that arises from the discrimination of rejection, The fifty activities are like stars, The arising and ceasing of the eight consciousnesses are like the moon, The alaya is like the essence of space. In that space, there is a single bindu. For example, like the obscuration of the sun's rays, The obscurations that arise in oneself, Cannot be rejected by rejection, like a shadow. Therefore, the discrimination of rejection is mistaken. Now listen again, to the essence of the assembly, When the discrimination of grasping arises, The activities are like geese on the seashore, The eight consciousnesses are like otters catching fish, The alaya is like the great ocean. In the middle dwells a single bindu. For example, like the Udumbara flower, It is not visible at the mouth but dwells in the depths. Likewise, because it is inseparable from objects, It is not killed and there is no meat to eat. It is the mind, one does not attain Buddhahood through dharma. Therefore, the discrimination of grasping is mistaken. Now listen again, to the essence of the assembly.
