Pervading all manifestations of playfulness, the nature of consciousness is also like that. The example of the alaya is like the sky. Likewise, on the alaya consciousness, how do the seven aggregates arise and cease? Yet, within the very state of alaya consciousness, even though the seven aggregates arise, there is no change. The nature of alaya consciousness is to move without abiding for a moment, like the mainstreams of four rivers. It does not stay for an instant and the flow never ceases. Outer and inner cycles of existence and nirvana are all transcended. Everything becomes the state of alaya, because it gives rise to everything. Therefore, the alaya is like the earth. It does not obstruct itself, but it is obscured by other conditions. Like the subtle and coarse light of the sun, moon, planets, and stars shining at the same time. The alaya is the realm of pure nature. From the beginning, it is like white silk, but suddenly, like a stain of oil, attachment arises. The state of being mixed without duality is like white silk stained by oil. The alaya is the pure realm of dharma, the spontaneously arisen dharmakaya from the beginning. Like clear water, it is mixed and adulterated with habitual tendencies and conceptual thoughts. Even the great spontaneously arisen one from the beginning cannot benefit self or others. It is like the mixing of water and earth. Although it is spontaneously accomplished without searching, it appears to be nonexistent because it is obscured by conceptual thoughts. It is like the sun obscured by clouds. Reality itself is like poison and alcohol. From the beginning, it is the enemy that kills, but like alcohol causing the condition of no liberation. On the nature of ignorance and samsara, habitual tendencies cause the condition of samsara, and the wheel of the three realms turns. It becomes the basis of samsara without liberation. The example is like the mixing of poison and alcohol. The meaning of alaya consciousness, although it is not the same as others, yet all the teachings are without fault, and the false words of other vehicles never change. Because it refutes the contradictory views of non-Buddhists, because the characteristics of the vehicle are not known, clinging to the four extremes of permanence and annihilation, with the arrogance of ignorance and delusion, one's own desires are said to be correct, and the correct views of others are disparaged. That and the meaning of Ati Yoga are not the same. Having definitely examined all vehicles, and having reached the end of this Great Perfection, the essence of all vehicles, the ultimate end of the paths and bhumis, the essence of all mandalas, is the spontaneously accomplished wisdom of the Buddha. The Tantra of the Great Perfection, the Wheel of Bliss, the Spontaneously Arisen Union of Meanings.

Karma. Chapter Eight: Explanation of Characteristics, Causes, Conditions, and Examples. Thereafter, to the assembled gathering, the all-knowing teacher spoke thus: Ability and nature, the object of focus, all things are the determining ability of the Alaya. The seven aggregates and six realms, etc., are the ability of the Alaya consciousness. Without the Alaya, these would not arise. Of the seven consciousnesses and six realms, the object of one is its own nature. All of these are common abilities. All internal and external phenomena, without exception, are in the Alaya consciousness, which is itself of a nature free from elaboration. Not understanding this, or misunderstanding it, one clings to self and object, the basis of hatred. One accumulates various forms of happiness and suffering, and thus wanders in the cycle of the three realms. All of these are the abilities of delusion, which are also manifested by the Alaya consciousness. The true ability is the internal and external phenomena, the body and wisdom, the pure lands, etc., which are actually mirror-like wisdom. In the Alaya consciousness, the power of conceptualization and habitual tendencies increases, which is the obstacle to omniscience. After purifying the ten grounds in sequence, one is completely transformed into body and wisdom. Therefore, the Alaya is the true ability. It also extends from the Bodhisattva to the aggregates of hell, pervading all and producing all. Therefore, it is the common ability of the Alaya. Because of its vast pervasiveness, it obscures qualities. Because these arise from ignorance and habitual tendencies, the Alaya is the common ability. It is also the ignorance and habitual tendencies of sentient beings in the three realms, the co-emergent conceptualization, and the latent and manifest causes. Because all arise from it, the Alaya is the non-common ability. Alternatively, the ability of the Alaya's own nature, other than that, is the ability of nature. Doubt and conceptual thought, why is it one? If asked, when the two, Alaya, ignorance, and habitual tendencies, are completely clung to, doubt arises in ignorance, and conceptualization arises in habitual tendencies. Because without that, this also does not arise, doubt and conceptualization are the ability of nature. Also, Vajrasattva, listen. The stream of moments of the Alaya consciousness, impermanent, unceasing, flows through the three times. It is also not fabricated by anyone, but naturally abides in its own nature. Therefore, it is the nature of its own accord. That Alaya consciousness, the stream of moments does not stay but goes. Because it goes, the first has passed,
