Ground for Taming Demons. From the Tantra of the Great Perfection, Spontaneous Bliss Wheel of United Meaning, the Forty-second Chapter on Showing the Demons of View. Furthermore, Vajrasattva, listen! The demons of the five senses sinking into clarity, the demons of distraction by circumstances, the demons of non-conceptualization, the demons of distraction and non-movement arise. Furthermore, listen to the essence of gathering. Desiring to quickly attain samadhi, one becomes attached to signs through prolonged meditation. The demon of intoxication enters, and clarity sinks. Due to the power of ignorance, one falls asleep, abandoning clarity and sinking into dullness. Through exertion, samadhi is lost, and good and bad dreams arise without seeking. Therefore, one is deceived by the demon of sinking. Furthermore, Vajrasattva, listen! Because one has not grasped the Dharmakaya of self-awareness, wisdom is obscured by the power of ignorance. The demon of forgetfulness enters, and bliss is lost through faith, meditation, and dullness. Without self-awareness, quiescence sinks. Without insight, one is separated from meaning. Even if one meditates, it is meaningless, and one is deceived by demons. Therefore, a lineage holder cherishes the oral instructions. Furthermore, listen to the essence of the retinue. Not liking solitude but liking gatherings, demons enter due to the circumstances of others. Having abandoned samadhi, one develops various attachments to objects of right and wrong. Without non-conceptualization, afflictions arise. By clinging to acceptance and rejection, one creates suffering for oneself. Therefore, one is deceived by the demon of distraction. Furthermore, Vajrasattva, listen! Because one has not repeatedly practiced, the demon of the wandering thief enters. By focusing on just a few words, one is separated from immovability. Because diligence is small, there is no realization, and the lazy thief arises again and again. Because one lacks certainty and confidence, one falls, deceived by the demon of distraction. Furthermore, Vajrasattva, listen! These demons of meditation also arise for those without oral instructions. They cannot harm those with lineage. Without realization, whatever one meditates on becomes a demon. From the Tantra of the Great Perfection, Spontaneous Bliss Wheel of United Meaning, the Forty-third Chapter on Showing the Demons of Samadhi. Furthermore, Vajrasattva, listen! The demons of activity, busyness, and enjoyment, the demons of attachment to pleasant experiences and places, the demons of distraction from learning qualities, the demons of mental disturbance, and the demons of bad retinues arise. Furthermore, Vajrasattva, listen! If one stays in a solitary place, faithful people gather. The demon of enjoyment and busyness enters.
