Because of non-conceptualization, afflictions arise. By clinging to rejection and acceptance, one affects one's own mindstream. Therefore, one is deceived by the demon of distraction. Now listen to the essence of the wheel. Because one has not repeatedly practiced, the demon of interruption, the thief, enters. Just a word, whatever it may be, one makes it the object of mind, and thus one is separated from immovability. Because of little diligence, there is no realization. Like a blind person, one constantly rises and falls again and again. Because one does not possess the certainty of conviction, one falls, deceived by the demon of interruption. Therefore, all of you in the circle, listen well. The demon of meditation arises for those who do not have the instructions. Harm cannot befall those who have the transmission. Whatever one meditates on without realization becomes a demon. Great Perfection is wondrous! From the Tantra of the Wheel of Spontaneous Bliss, the Essence of Meaning, the Nineteenth Chapter, which reveals the demons of meditative experience, is complete. Now again, Vajrasattva, listen! The demon of enjoyment, the busyness of activity; the demon of attachment to pleasant experiences; the demon of attachment to qualities that have been learned; the demon of mental disturbance, evil companions—these demons arise. Now again, listen to the essence of the gathering. If one stays in a solitary place, one gathers faithful people. The demon of enjoyment and busyness enters, and abandoning samadhi, one grasps at the minds of others. At that time, one desires wealth and food, devoid of meaning. One strives for the Dharma of reading and chanting names. Deceived by distraction from the essential point of meditation, one makes offerings to worldly people. One is ruined by the demon of busyness, deceiving oneself. Now again, Vajrasattva, listen! The place of the self-satisfied is auspicious, with both ghosts and gods. The demon of self-praise and attachment enters, and abandoning samadhi, one builds up pleasant experiences. "The protectors do not have the power to go elsewhere," one says, and thus one's own realization is devoid of meaning. One's own mind is used by others and becomes a demon. One falls, deceived by the demon of place. Now again, listen, all you assembled in the circle! The wise yogi desires to meditate, but the demon of distraction enters within. Because of praise from others, one abandons samadhi. One teaches Dharma, practices medicine, and crafts. Attachment arises for desirable objects. Saying that it is for the benefit of others and for enlightenment, one intentionally engages in the distraction of activity. Devoid of meaning, one falls, deceiving oneself. Now again, Vajrasattva, listen! The yogi's evil companions suffer greatly. The demon of mental disturbance enters within. The evil companions desire without contentment. They do not appreciate kindness and create discord. At that time, people with wrong faith ridicule.

Criticizing the guru generates hatred, evil retinue demons fall into self-deception. Now listen to the essence of the gathering again, the demons of conduct are those, arising from attachment to the eight worldly concerns. Therefore, seek the meaning of distraction, samsara and acceptance, self-deception. From the tantra of the Wheel of Spontaneous Bliss, the essence of the profound meaning of the Great Perfection, the twentieth chapter, which teaches the demons of conduct. Now listen, all you assembled retinues, the demons of worldly dakinis' prophecies, the demons of attachment to experience, the demons of hypocritical desire, the demons of meditation, attachment, bliss, and exploitation, the demons of hatred through unfounded slander, the demons of pride and exaggeration arise. Now listen, all you assembled retinues, when a yogi has view and samadhi, when manifesting in the body of a goddess, not staying in the ultimate, for the sake of benefiting others, speaking of the qualities of benefiting others. At that time, the demon of dakinis enters, abandoning samadhi and striving for the benefit of others, not regarding it as Dharma and doing whatever, being deceived by demons because of being separated from meaning. Now listen to the essence again, when a yogi meditates with meaningfulness, experiencing the profound and subtle, because not grasping the great meaning of the view, the demon of attachment to calm abiding enters, unable to withstand conditions and having increase and decrease, because of latent ignorance, because of not knowing the wisdom of ignorance, being deceived by demons through attachment without view. Now listen, all you assembled retinues, all the individuals who meditate without meaning, those who are unfounded, hypocritical, and accumulative, the demon of sweet talk and treacherous heart enters, striving for virtue in order to deceive others, calling it secret because there is no instruction, the demon of self-deception enters and falls, in the future life being born as a preta with a protruding navel. Now listen to the essence of the retinue again, the yogi of view and means, in the bliss of the third empowerment, because of attachment to the four joys, the demon of desire and existence enters, accumulating all male and female essences, increasing samadhi by practicing desire. Therefore, they say it is necessary to rely on empowerment, the demon of attachment enters and falls into self-deception. Now listen, Vajrasattva, the yogi with definite meaning, because of competing with mutual expectation, the demon of contempt and hatred enters, because of attachment to one's own experience, slandering others, those with instructions, not harming the yogi.
