Listen to the essence of the gathering! When a noble yogi abides in perfect samadhi, it is as bright as the rising sun at dawn in the dark clouds of night. He knows without exception the past and future deeds, both good and bad, of sentient beings in the three realms. At that time, the demon of compassion enters his heart, and he thinks, "How pitiful are sentient beings!" He abandons samadhi and engages in activities for the benefit of others, and therefore he becomes controlled by demons. Again, listen to Vajrasattva's words! Sounds arise from the empty sky, and the Sugata reveals various dharmas. Pure lands are adorned with ornaments, and upon hearing pleasing sounds, he abandons samadhi and dances and sings. He boasts and generates wondrous joy. If he clings to this, he is separated from realization and is deceived by the demon of joy. Again, listen to the essence of the gathering! Whether in meditative experience or in dreams, if frightening forms or other inauspicious things appear, abide in their nature and transform them into virtue. Abandoning samadhi brings forth the demon of sorrow. Displeasure, suffering, and exhaustion arise. At that time, he becomes weary of karma, and alone in a cave he weeps. He falls under the control of the demon of form. Again, listen to Vajrasattva's words! Whether in experience or in dreams, pleasing forms are shown, and all the good and bad of the three times are revealed. Showing them to others brings about truth. At that time, the demon of pride enters his heart, and abandoning samadhi, he boasts and brags. In the middle, it is half true and half false. In the end, everything he says is a lie. He is deceived by the demon of deception and falls. Again, listen to the essence of the gathering! The demon of view is also like this. Because he does not recognize the straying paths of objects, he clings to appearances, forms, and so on. When the mind follows objects, all are demons. The words of the Great Perfection, the Sudden Entry of Wisdom, from the Tantra of the Self-Arisen Wheel of Bliss, is the twentieth chapter, which explains the demon of the yogi's view. Again, listen to Vajrasattva's words! The demon of the five senses sinking into dullness, the demon of unconsciousness and drowsiness, the demon of distraction due to circumstances, the demon of non-conceptualization, the demon of scattering, the demon of immovability, and so on arise. Again, listen to the essence of the gathering! Desiring to quickly accomplish samadhi, he meditates for a long time and loses the proper measure. The demon of intoxication enters his heart for the sake of clarity. Controlled by ignorance, he falls asleep. He abandons clarity and sinks into dullness.

When searching for oneself, samadhi 734.5 diminishes. When not searching, good and bad dreams arise. Therefore, one is deceived by the demon of sinking. Listen again to the essence of gathering. Because one does not grasp self-awareness as the Dharmakaya, wisdom is abandoned under the power of ignorance. The demon of non-remembrance 734.6 enters, and happiness diminishes due to dull meditation. Without self-awareness, quiescence sinks. Without insight, one is separated from meaning. Even if one meditates, it is meaningless and one is deceived by demons. Therefore, cherish the oral instructions with lineage 735735.1. Now listen again to the essence of the retinue. One does not like being alone but likes gathering. When others take advantage, demons enter. Abandoning samadhi, one becomes attached to what is and is not. Various attachments arise to objects. In 735.2 non-discrimination, afflictions arise. Abandoning and collecting attachments makes one's own stream. Therefore, one is bewildered by the demon of distraction. Now listen again to the essence of the retinue. Because one has not repeatedly familiarized oneself, the demon of the wandering thief 735.3 enters. Any word, when it arises in the mind, loses its immovability. Because one is not diligent, there is no sign of realization. The lazy thief arises again and again. Because one does not have definite confidence, one is deceived by the demon of transference 735.4 and falls. Now think well about the retinue. The demons of meditation also arise in those who do not have oral instructions. Those with lineage cannot be harmed. If one meditates without realization, it turns into a demon. 735.5 The words of the Great Perfection, the gathering of meaning and wisdom, from the Tantra of the Self-Arisen Wheel of Bliss, is the twenty-first chapter, which explains the demons of the signs of practice. Now listen again, Vajrasattva. Actions 735.6, the demon of busyness and enjoyment, the demon of attachment to pleasant experiences, the demon of learning qualities and distraction, the demon of disturbing the mind, and the evil retinue arise. Now listen again to the essence of gathering. When one dwells in a solitary place 736736.1, faithful people gather. The demon of enjoyment and busyness enters. Abandoning samadhi, one grasps the minds of others. At that time, one is separated from meaning and attached to wealth. With desire, one engages in forms of dharma. Abandoning the meaning of meditation, one becomes the demon of 736.2 distraction. One speaks well to worldly people. One is deceived and falls by the demon of busyness. Now listen again, Vajrasattva. In the naturally suitable original place, there are auspicious gods and spirits without demons. The demon of self-desire 736.3 enters. Abandoning samadhi, one builds pleasant signs. In other places, one does not
