Whatever virtue is practiced, Even a mote is of no benefit, wandering meaninglessly. In the Bardo state, there is no recollection of purpose, Taking one or many, there is no autonomy. Encountering suffering like rain becomes a danger, In holes, huts, houses, and so on, One is forced into the womb without power. Because there are no eyes of wisdom to see, Listen also to the essence of the gathering. M (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning) By the power of the two, clarity and habit, In unknowing, the place of birth, Born from karma in any of the four places, There is no choice in high or low places. The innermost essence of the Great Perfection view, From the Tantra of the Vast Expanse of Sky, The Sixteenth Chapter, Showing the Habitual Tendencies of Existence in the Bardo, is complete. Then, to the assembled gathering, The King of All-Knowing Mind spoke, Declaring the boundaries of Samsara, Like in the darkness of a dark abyss, Like encountering one's own head, Later arising from the cause of ignorance, Afflictions arise in sequence from one's own stream. A youth who has reached the age of maturity, Like being deceived by a beautiful woman, Worldly attachments and afflictions, Held in the mind by the power of clinging. Like a treasure seeker in the ocean, Like turning the earth with pride, After the effort, followed by afflictions, There is no liberation from birth, old age, sickness, and death. Now also listen to the essence of the gathering, The first, the base of all, the Alaya of mind, Because it is produced by bad causes and conditions, Because of grasping at what is not true dharma, It generates all afflictions. It is the seed of the three realms of Samsara, The intermediate habitual Alaya, Follows after the previous habits, Unable to be self-caused, it relies on conditions, The conditions for arising are fourfold. Finally, the Alaya of the body, Actively engages in the five poisons of attachment and aversion, The result of its suffering, Birth, old age, sickness, and death are inconceivable. Because it dwells in all sentient beings, The Alaya is the basis of Samsara, It is not the basis of the Dharmakaya itself. Therefore, the Alaya is conditioned, It revolves by the power of conditions, Submerged in the edge of the four rivers, Until liberated, there is no possibility of release. The innermost essence of the Great Perfection view, From the Tantra of the Vast Expanse of Sky, The Seventeenth Chapter, Showing Where Samsara Currently Dwells, is complete. Then Vajrasattva, To Kuntuzangpo, he asked, With the great means of reversing delusion, What is the means to realize the purity of vessel and contents? How to differentiate self-arisen wisdom?

How to ultimately destroy the cycle of existence, please, all-knowing King, explain. Having heard these words, He spoke to the assembled retinue: The great method for reversing delusion Is these three: faith, diligence, and commitment. Know them as the means to realization. Furthermore, listen to the essence of the retinue. Like the Brahmin Chandra Pala, Toward the holy, meaningful guru, Without regard for body or life, With reverence, may you receive the instructions. For example, like a sage with a wind disease, Listening to the words of the doctor, Toward the teaching that samsara and nirvana are one, Without fear or dread, inquire. Like a woman undefiled by others, At the time of giving birth to a child, With unwavering faith, Realize the two benefits of your own mind. Now again, listen to the essence of the assembly. Because the root of samsara and nirvana is one, With the diligence of a lion, Inquire about the essential instructions on the root of samsara and nirvana, of which you are ignorant of mantras and characteristics. Like an elephant that does not retreat, destroying enemies, Without misunderstanding the guru's conduct, Contemplate the meaning of the instructions on the nature of reality. Diligence does not retreat, cutting off doubt. Like the limbs of Saku Tze, In all your own conduct, Without distraction from the meaning, Constantly remember in your mind. Now again, listen to the essence of the retinue. The great commitment of love and compassion, Like a child not born without a mother, If you do not realize your own mind, then the Buddha, Even if sought in the three times, cannot be found, Therefore, do not seek from this ordinary state. Like a shadow not found without a form, Beyond abandoning the five poisons, There is not even a name called Buddha. If you realize that, it is the Dharmakaya. For example, like copper, iron, and so on, Coated with gold-transforming essence, On the five poisons of your own mind, Realize by coating with the essence of instructions. Like the example of reciting mantras over poison, Like poison transforming into medicine without being removed, With the meaning of no acceptance or rejection, The five poisons arise as the nature of wisdom. Like a person who finds a precious jewel, Not needing worldly farming, Having realized the meaning of the mind without cultivation, Not straying from that is commitment. The quintessential view of the Great Perfection, from the Tantra of the Vast Expanse of Space, the eighteenth chapter, which teaches the means for reversing delusion, is complete. Then, to the assembled retinue, With spontaneously arisen great wisdom, I will explain the difference between what is and what is not, Listen with your mind, it is excellent!
