This is, named the three bodies that tame sentient beings. O Secret Lord, be sure to remember what is said. I am Vajrasattva, the Dharmakaya. From the topknot of my head, And from the hair follicle between the eyebrows and the air box of the nostrils, From them arise stainless Manjushri, And Lion's Roar and Heart Essence Bodhisattva, etc., I say are the Sambhogakaya of manifestation. The Six Thubpas, Garab Dorje, etc., Are said to be the Nirmanakaya of manifestation. From the Lion's Roar, the Union of Sun and Moon, The eleventh chapter, the Differentiation of the Three Manifestation Bodies. O Bhagavan, Lord of Compassion and Means, Please speak of the nature of the three bodies. The command was given: The nature of the three self-born bodies is uncreated, Unfabricated, uncorrupted, unchanging, Naturally pure, uncompounded. In the wisdom light like the sky, The Dharmata is like a pure Vajra body. Awareness is self-arisen, the expanse of transparent wisdom, In the great wisdom of the self-nature ground, The five aspects of wisdom that hold characteristics, Unobstructed, each shines brightly in its own state. In that expanse, the heart essence five bodies, mudras, appear unceasingly. Essence Dharmakaya, speech and mind, self-nature Sambhogakaya, Compassionate Nirmanakaya, all four elements are unceasing. The three bodies abiding in the four are called wisdom. The pure cause is the Dharmakaya, the result is the two Rupakayas. The self-illuminating power is accomplished, that is the ground of the three bodies. From the Lion's Roar, the Union of Sun and Moon, The twelfth chapter, the Nature of the Three Bodies. O Bhagavan, Lord of Compassion and Means, Please explain the result from the ground of the Three Buddha Bodies. The command was given: From the ground of the Three Bodies, originally enlightened, The Buddha of Samantabhadra's realization, Is not mixed from two, not separated from one, Unmixed perfection, wisdom self-arisen, In the great bliss realm, manifestly enlightened, again and again. The Buddha's essence, definitive word, And the classification, characteristics, and names are explained. The Buddha's essence is stainless wisdom, The definitive word is that afflictions, suffering, and defilements are purified, and wisdom increases. Therefore, it is called the Teacher of the Three Kayas. With the wisdom of self-awareness and realization, the demons of wrong views are destroyed. With the power of omniscient wisdom, transcending the extremes of grasping and clinging, it is said to be the Bhagavan. With the wisdom and realization, the glory and benefit of myself, and the glory of others, are all done by Samantabhadra. The darkness of beings is dispelled by the lamp. Self-arisen wisdom is without birth or death, thus destroying the Lord of Death's demon. Self-arisen wisdom is without characteristics, thus destroying the Skandha demon. Self-arisen wisdom is non-dual, thus destroying the Klesha demon. The wisdom of the Three Kayas is free from grasping and clinging. Being free, it also destroys the Son of God demon. The Sambhogakaya, the rainbow five bodies, is unobstructed, thus destroying the Skandha demon. Free from the faults of grasping and clinging, it also destroys the Klesha demon. The wisdom body is without birth or death, thus destroying the Lord of Death. The clear light is self-arisen, thus destroying the Son of God demon. The reason for possessing the Three Kayas is shown as: The Dharmakaya's qualities are vast, possessing the five wisdoms and two bodies. The Sambhogakaya possesses marks and signs. The intention possesses clear light wisdom. Possessing the six kinds of clairvoyance. The Nirmanakaya possesses great compassion and miraculous powers. The reason for the transcendence of the Three Kayas is shown as: The Dharmakaya transcends all extremes. The Sambhogakaya transcends grasping and clinging Samsara. The Nirmanakaya possesses wisdom and skillful means, transcending the two extremes of Samsara and Nirvana. The reason for the increase of the Three Kayas is shown as: The Dharmakaya's marks and signs, the two appearances, are purified. Self-awareness is clear, and non-dual wisdom increases. The Sambhogakaya's Dharma nature of Samsara is purified. The great wisdom and qualities of the omniscient increase. The Nirmanakaya's ignorance and Samsara's self-continuum are purified. Wisdom, skillful means, and great compassion increase. The reason for the purification of the Three Kayas is: The Dharmakaya's essence is pure. The Sambhogakaya's touch is completely pure. The Nirmanakaya's afflictions are completely pure. Thus, in the "Lion's Roar Intention, Sun and Moon Union Tantra," the thirteenth chapter, which explains the fruit of the Three Kayas and the difference between the basis and the fruit. Alas! Alas! Bhagavan, Lord of Great Compassion and Skillful Means, please explain the manner in which the Mandala of the Three Kayas abides. The Buddha said: The great basis appearance of the Dharmakaya is the Dharmata clear light wisdom body. That nature is clear without inside or outside. Awareness pervades without inside or outside, vast and without partiality.
