Answered by ignorance. Ignorance arises from not encountering the noble lama. Encountering the lama is a condition, faith is the cause. One must harmonize faith and respect. Having harmonized in this way, the teachings are imparted. Thus it is stabilized. Having stabilized, if one does not practice, how should one respond? Answered by laziness. Falling into laziness is due to a lack of diligence. What is the reason for not being diligent? It is because of not fearing death. It is due to pride and distraction. This is due to past bad habits. This is answered by the secret fox. Alas, son of the lineage! You do not know how to view this samsara. You do not know how to abandon birth, old age, sickness, and death. Boats cannot be moored on the four rivers. You do not know the self-aware awareness like the sun. You do not know how to dispel the darkness of ignorance. You are filled with many teachings that you have heard. But you do not know how to apply them. You are filled with many instructions, but you lack experience. You do not have even one root to grasp the essential point. You are filled with many philosophical tenets, but you lack view. You never cut through the four extremes. You are filled with many experiences, but you are full of attachment. You do not have even one that is unattached and self-liberated. You are filled with many empty views, and the five poisons are rampant. You do not have even one of the six realms that is self-liberated. You are filled with many words, and your awareness is dull. You never attain the ultimate state of unborn self-liberation. You are filled with many scriptures and reasonings. You do not have even one that is self-liberated from the four extremes. Emaho! The lord of emptiness, is said to be empty. If you do not understand the five past ones, the lord of emptiness will go to emptiness. By explaining signs with signs, the lord of signs is carried away by signs. The rich man dies of hunger, because he is never satisfied with gain. The rich man may die of hunger. If one eats one full meal when not hungry, one will not die of hunger. Hearing much, one is always bound by many terms. It is difficult to be liberated and attain liberation. By grasping the path through instructions, one attains liberation and freedom. Thus, one obtains the fruit of self-liberation. Thus it was said. In the Wheel of Karma of Explaining Letters, this is the twenty-third section on eliminating ignorance and wrong views. Again, (the master) said: In the past, in the land of Oddiyana (Orgyen, located in present-day Pakistan), there was a Brahmin named Nyima. He had an old Brahmin father. He was captured by the king and his retinue in the center of Oddiyana. They tried to tempt him with a lot of gold, but he did not give in. No matter what they used to tempt the Brahmin, it did not work. The Brahmin had a friend who was skilled in the Vedas. His name was Kunga Sal. He confided in him, and (his friend) said, "There is a way."

Then, in the forest monastery, there was an old Brahmin just like that one, with white hair, a red face, a black body, sharp eyes, rough hands, able to make various sounds, with a human body. They poured rice wine for him and wanted to exchange. The monkey's name was Acho Depung. They deceived him in this way and exchanged what they didn't want. They said, "This is my grandfather, so we must exchange." He replied, "Okay." There, they asked, "Did Acho exchange?" He replied, "Son, you know yourself." After the exchange, they asked, "Is it tied up?" He also replied, "Son, you know yourself." Then, because he didn't want it, they said, "We'll kill it." He also replied, "Son, you know yourself." After exchanging there, one gained happiness, was freed from prison, practiced Dharma, and became a Buddha. The monkey was not deceived; no matter what was said, he said, "You know yourself." Finally, they sent Nana Gsal away, placed him on a rock, and there was no time for liberation. Similarly, samsara and nirvana, whether transcended or not, the sons and descendants of the son's lineage know. Thus it was said. In the Grain Explanation Wheel of Karma, the twenty-fourth chapter of existence being reversed. Then again, he taught: These are the forms of the general results of karma, the kinds of things to do and abandon. Due to greed, hatred, anger, and ignorance, if they arise, are transmitted, and are actually exhausted, one will definitely be born in hell. Dying due to the cause of not understanding karma, one will definitely be reborn as a short-lived animal. Greed kills with the actual objects of generation and transmission, and one will definitely fall into the preta world. Abandoning the ten non-virtues is discipline; not harming beings will be reborn as gods and humans, with long life and happiness; harming beings will lead to short life in the next life. Humans and non-humans are beaten by livestock, and diseases such as leprosy will arise. Stealing others' wealth will lead to poverty; not stealing others' wealth will lead to wealth. Whoever gives food and wealth will be long-lived, radiant, powerful, glorious, without disease, and always happy. Giving clothes will lead to enjoyment, and one will also obtain various kinds of clothes. Giving bedding will lead to happiness, giving land will lead to wealth, and giving grain will be complete and abundant. Strictly observing the precepts and abandoning desire will lead to obtaining a male body; great desire and strict observance of the precepts will lead to becoming a female body. Those who drink alcohol are not trusted, their wisdom is clear and remembered, and there is no ignorance.
