Like the grandeur of a great mountain, Like a blind man groping with a staff. If there is no self-illuminating, perfect instruction, Then one is forever separated from the path of liberation. The all-encompassing expanse is without fabrication, The very nature of self-abiding awareness-mind. The very nature of the mind of Bodhichitta, Is clear and distinct, without real clinging. One's own mind is the essence of all Buddhas, The secret is the instruction of one's own mind. The instruction of awareness, self-abiding perfection, Is realized at an inconceivable time. The characteristics of a bad disciple are: Not possessing faith and samaya, A mind that is very attached to possessions, Little wisdom, newly entered into the path, Not seeking the meaning of devotion, Engaging in activities for profit and fame, Without reverence or compassion, possessing arrogance, Those whose conduct is filled with pride and conceit, Those who divulge secrets to others, Those who engage in conduct without confidence, Those who possess distorted arrogance of attachment and aversion, To those who reveal secrets to such as these, When the vows and secret prohibitions are broken, One falls into the Vajra Hell for eternity, Where is there any seed of liberation? The ripening result arises in this life. The oath-bound Vajra Dakini assembly, Gathers and takes away their life. The very nature of the precious disciple's mind, Those who possess faith and samaya, Those who have faith in the meaning of Dzogchen, Those who strive for the meaning of discriminating wisdom, If one obtains the true meaning of the oral instructions, If one does not spare even body and life, What need is there to mention enjoyment and accumulation? Those who possess the noble Vajra mind, Like the golden foundation of a great ocean, Hold fast with an unchanging, stable mind, Firm with a mind that is without separation. Vast and expansive, deep and subtle, Great compassion without partiality, Listening to instructions and able to keep secrets, Dwelling in a secluded place, practicing Dharma according to one's lineage, Not busying oneself with worldly affairs, If one reveals secrets to such as these, Then one becomes a Dharma son of definite lineage. Even though one possesses secret awareness like a treasure, The Vajra holder without samaya, Is like a monkey falling off a cliff, Self and others become enemies of the Vajra. Or like a swift traveler crossing the border, Or like a man extending and contracting his penis, Without the Dharma nature of the intermediate state of beings, One wanders astray in the evil realms. Those who divulge secrets to others, Those who explain with addition and detraction, Those who are separated from the oral transmission instructions, Those who have no meaning in the connection of view and conduct, Those Vajra Lamas, Will fall into the realm of the Vajra Hell.

I am a secret experiencer, Self-luminous awareness possesses profound meaning, Confident in the connection between view and conduct, Will surely go to liberation. A fortunate son of a definite lineage, Except for one great Bodhisattva, Even if many, this is not given to three, It is definitely given to one awareness. The fortunate are liberated without effort, Like a garuda chick inside an egg, In samsara itself, one becomes a Buddha. The path of great bliss from suffering in ravines, Great bliss spontaneously perfected without effort, Without traversing stages, one presses down at once. Abandoning inferior minds, superior wisdom, All liberated, effortless, the realm of great bliss. The path of self-nature, uncorrected means, The connection of vajra time and words. The secret of great bliss is very wonderful, The power of the universal pouring of royal methods, Ripens all at once without stages. Bindu is clear without cause or condition, Understood through the method of placing without adulteration. This is the precious king of methods, It is the accomplishment free from effort, Known through the authoritative words of the vajra instructions. The vajra person is characterized. From the great tantra of the mind of enlightenment, the expanse equal to space, The nineteenth chapter, which teaches that the fortunate are liberated without effort. 17. Then again, there are other things to be explained, The particular ways of entering, Must be truly and correctly explained. With the characteristic of no arising or entering, Whatever it may be, whatever it may be, Everything abides spontaneously accomplished. Everything is in the nature of supreme wisdom, The secret path of self-born, uncorrected. Unspeakable, not entering the realm of words, Arising and entering, not two, one bindu. In the mandala of self-born supreme, There is no entry with clinging effort. Because the dharmadhatu has no place, It transcends all objects of thought and action. Because wisdom has no direction or place, There is no entry into meditative concentration of thought. Because the mind of enlightenment has no going, There is no entry into the path of going on the ground. In the nature of reality like space, How can one go by going? In the spontaneously accomplished, free from effort, How can effortless knowing not enter? The view is without object, self-luminous, Therefore, there is no entry for the consciousness of viewing. Since the field of action is spontaneously accomplished in the mind, Therefore, there is no entry by practicing the field of action. In the samaya of awareness, free from protection, Separated from all thoughts of protection. In the very expanse free from empowerment, Separated from all efforts of empowerment. Self-luminous, self-born.
