It is called non-existence. The true Dharmakaya certainly exists, because the nature of mind is without birth or death, it abides without beginning or end. Therefore, because it does not change in the three times, it is non-substantial and pervasive like space. The extreme is free from addition and, because it is free from existence, it is impermanent. It is neither non-existent nor annihilated, the self-arisen ground is free from the extremes of existence and non-existence. On the nature of awareness itself, because there is no birth or cessation, it is the self-luminous body. It is completely clear, without inside or outside, therefore it is the self-aware Dharmakaya itself. Now listen to the essence of the collection again. The self-arisen essence body is the basis of Nirvana because there is no gathering or scattering. The root of all phenomena is spontaneously accomplished from the beginning. Now listen to Vajrasattva again. That which is called the nature body is without ignorance because it has never been deluded, and without wisdom because it has never been realized. Therefore, being distracted by objects and, not being distracted, are not distinguished in themselves. Because it is not touched by any extreme, it is called the basis of Samsara and Nirvana. Now listen to the essence of the collection again. The basis of delusion is unspeakable, in which one does not think or understand the meaning, and even remembering it gradually diminishes. Because it has gone into the center of darkness, memory is small, and because it is thickly obscured, it is unspeakable. Because it changes according to conditions, it is the basis of Samsara. The Great Perfection, the gathering of all definitive meanings, from the Tantra of Wisdom Equal to Space, the chapter on showing the Bardo of Samsara and Nirvana, the fifty-fifth, is complete. Then to the assembled gatherings, the all-knowing teacher, the Dharma Lord, spoke of the Bardo of birth, old age, sickness, and death. First, when the time of death comes, anyone can be a person without instructions, or a mantra practitioner without view. The signs of death appear in sequence, because earth dissolves into water, the essence of the aggregates cannot overcome and becomes heavy, the radiance of the body disappears and becomes dim. When water dissolves into fire, thirst, dry lips and tongue come, and weak speech cannot arise. Then, when fire dissolves into wind, the warmth of the body is lost and it becomes cold, the signs of death are that the eyes turn and death omens appear. When wind dissolves into consciousness, breathing becomes rapid and panting occurs, at that time do not think of self, think of nine and one, because suffering is severe, memory is lost, and because the vital points are cut, habits and so on. These are the signs of death for sentient beings. When the later signs of death become clear, appearances arise and increase, and one's own self obscures and wanders in Samsara.
