Seeing ants climbing upwards. Humans see four kinds of sights. The Asuras see weapons. The gods see the seven precious things. These are the sufferings of the six realms of beings. Now listen again to the teachings of Vajrasattva. Those sufferings of the six realms of beings, Which arise from ignorance, Are true in delusion, but in reality do not exist. Therefore, ignorance is the greatest fault. From the Tantra of the Great Perfection, the Gathering of All Definitive Meanings, Equal to the Wisdom Sky, The eighth chapter, which explains how the sufferings of the six realms of beings arise. Then, to the assembled retinue, He taught the erroneous ways of the Tirthikas, Like a great medicine of error, That fault of the basis and the error, Refuting and explaining the number of repetitions, That error without a basis of error, Like a rabbit's horn, cannot exist. From the basis of error arises error. Now listen again to the essence of the retinue. Taking the unchanging essence as the basis, Deluded in clinging to color and form as self. False asceticism falls into hell. If examined with wisdom, the self cannot be established. Understand the meaning of this and repeat it. Now listen again to the essence of the retinue. Again, the view of holding to extremes, Four changes and five permanences, Believing that everything is made by the self. Therefore, the Tirthikas are deluded about permanence. The four elements of earth, water, fire, and wind, The four seasons of spring, summer, autumn, and winter Change. Therefore, meaningless habitual patterns are permanent. Whether it is an error or not is compounded. Therefore, change is called the basis. One's own mind having color and form is permanent. Therefore, I have no birth, old age, sickness, or death. Because it is constant, the self-born mind. For example, everything is made and produced. The mind that arises from this is permanent, Because of remembering what was done before, habitual patterns are permanent. Because of knowing all the qualities and learning, Therefore, the mind is called permanent. At all times in the past, present, and future, Because the rising and setting of the sun is constant, I am also the unchanging constant in the past, present, and future. Therefore, the four directions and four intermediate directions are also, Originally unchanging, definitely permanent. Therefore, my own mind also, Although temporarily changing, the basis does not change. Time is unchanging and permanent, Spring and autumn do not change, Winter does not turn into summer, Time is considered the great permanent. Now listen again to the essence of the gathering. Like this, due to the delusion of desire, With asceticism that reverses cause and effect, Liberation…

If one does not attain liberation, one falls into samsara, like trying to extract oil by squeezing sand. Now, listen to the essence of the assembly. Those who wish for annihilation into nothingness take non-color and non-form as the basis for annihilation, mistakenly believing that there is no cause and effect between past and future. Denying this, one falls into the great hell. Do not give in to annihilation; it exists within awareness. Therefore, since the basis is without error, it abides in the realm of self-born wisdom. Now, listen to the essence of samsara. All phenomena gathered by the skandhas initially arise from emptiness, from which suddenly arise subtle and coarse glimmers. From this, subtle parts of mind and consciousness arise, which come from causes and conditions. Even when they arise, they arise from the four elements. If there is no cause and effect of karma, the five elements dissolve and return to themselves, like a fire extinguished, ashes scattered by the wind. Now, listen to the essence of samsara. The tirthikas (non-Buddhists) who posit a basis for both (samsara and nirvana) are those who hold the views of the Vedic scriptures. The awareness of one's own mind is not prophesied. From a basis without certainty, they wish not to prevent any appearance, like a madman possessed by a demon. The result of that is certain: because the root of the mind is not understood, it is like the solid darkness of the great elements. The rays of sunlight of compassion are cut off, and there is no doubt of falling into the result of hell. From the tantra of the Great Perfection, the gathering of all definitive meanings, the equality of wisdom and space: The ninth chapter, showing the mistaken ways of the tirthikas, is complete. Then, to the assembled gathering, the order of the vehicles was taught. The basis is the essence-body (svabhavikakaya), like a mirror, from which arise the images of the nine vehicles in order. Now, listen, Vajrasattva. The meaning of that, explained separately, is that the view of the Shravakas is also that of the Sutrantikas and Vaibhashikas, who hold that there is a personal selflessness and a phenomenal self. Because they grasp objects as real, they are mistaken. Now, listen, Bodhisattvas of the assembly. The basis of subtle and coarse appearances, they hold to phenomena as self. They are pacified on one side and do not attain liberation. Because there is no higher seeing (vipashyana), they are ordinary beings. Understanding the meaning, this object is the realm of phenomena (dharmadhatu). Now, listen to the essence of the wheel. Having entered the door of the Four Noble Truths, they meditate on stopping the mind's entry into the breath. Having entered the teachings of the past, they remain equal in the present teachings. Having entered the present teachings, through the distinction of the discipline of the Khenpo and Acharya, they act with hope and fear, enduring the suffering of the body through asceticism, with mind, body, and speech.
