Will attain happiness. Now listen again, Vajrasattva. There is no more supreme definitive Dharma than this. You do not have the Great Perfection Yangti. Therefore, relying on skillful means, decide with the view of wisdom, wanting to surely bring about the result. From the Great Perfection Definitive Meaning Collection, the chapter on distinguishing the paths and fruits of mantra and characteristics, the fifteenth chapter. Then, to the assembled gatherings, the All-Knowing Teacher spoke: The wrong paths of the eight vehicles, you with inferior intellect and ignorance, say that skillful means and wisdom must be combined. This is a conceptualization that increases delusion. Now listen again to the essence of the collection. For example, wanting butter, just as there is no butter by churning water, actually practicing the signs of skillful means, wanting enlightenment with an attached mind. For example, the essence of the sun is obscured by both black and white clouds. Likewise, those who rely on skillful means, all grasp at things, therefore it is said to be an obstacle on the path. Now listen again, Vajrasattva. For example, if people eat poison without mantra, because it is the cause of Ashoka, whether they eat a lot or a little, both will die. Because it has definite scriptural authority but is meaningless, skillful means, whether large or small, obscures. By making effort, everything goes astray. Therefore, the self-aware Dharmakaya, if recognized in the box of the mind, does not rely on any skillful means. Therefore, it is the Dharma of the essence of pith instructions. Now listen again to the essence of the collection. You inferior vehicle practitioners, from the gateway of actually practicing signs, wanting to attain the wisdom of the fruit of all-knowing, this is a very foolish and reprehensible place. All practitioners who cling to conceptualizations, because the obstacle on the path is skillful means, it is said by all to be a wrong path. Therefore, there is no need to rely on skillful means. Now listen again to the essence of the collection. What is the definitive path to becoming a Buddha? First, the confidence of viewing, and the conduct of samadhi at the same time, in order to realize the meaning of the self-born essence, free from all expressions, the single thigle is the Dharmakaya, wisdom and Buddhahood are simultaneous, there is no other Dharma more supreme than that. Now listen again, Vajrasattva. You are an inferior vehicle practitioner, like squeezing oil from sand, from the four material elements, Buddha.

The rotten heart of desire, even if practiced for kalpas, cannot be accomplished. If the physical body itself is mind, because objects change, the mind will also have birth and death. Therefore, it is not self-born wisdom. How would one want to obtain it from Dzogchen? Furthermore, the profound and vast ultimate meaning is like a great garuda soaring in the sky, merely by remembering it, the Dharmakaya is revealed, that is all, there is no need to seek. Therefore, this is the path that does not need to be entered, like a precious wish-fulfilling jewel, merely realizing it is enough, the benefit of oneself and others is naturally accomplished. Therefore, the ultimate truth is very wonderful. Now listen again to what Vajrasattva says, you practitioners of the lower vehicles, like sesame seeds containing oil, but without pressing, the oil will not come out. Similarly, although it is present in oneself, without instruction, it cannot be known. Even if one practices conditioned dharmas for hundreds of thousands of kalpas, the fruit of Buddhahood will not arise. Now listen again to the essence of the Samantabhadra, even if there are many methods to know these, if one does not know what is inherent in oneself, seeking externally is a foolish dharma. Therefore, cherish this meaning of no seeking. In the Great Perfection Samantabhadra, the chapter refuting other tenets, is the sixteenth chapter. Then, Vajrasattva, in order to benefit the retinue of the Samantabhadra, asked the King of All-Knowing Mind with truthful words: What is the difference between ignorance and wisdom? Are object and mind, the essence, one or different? What is the difference in meaning between cause and effect? Can it be practiced? How is it practiced? What is the difference between realization and non-realization? Please, King of All-Knowing, explain. Having heard this question, he taught the retinue of the Samantabhadra: For the benefit of all sentient beings, the difference between ignorance and wisdom is, now listen carefully to what I say. First, in the bardo, samsara, and nirvana, there are two states: awareness and non-attention. Because one has not recognized that it is oneself, one is bound by any consciousness. This is the root of ignorant samsara. Even if one examines this, one cannot understand, this is called the ground ignorance. Now listen again to the essence of the Samantabhadra, for the clinging without an object, subtle seeds of habitual tendencies appear. Therefore, one is obscured by oneself. Co-emergent ignorance is called the condition of the cause. This cause is very rapid, and is immediately marked by clinging. Clinging to the name of habitual tendencies.
